Japanese Pool Player Gives Great Interview

glyphs says...

Mmmm.... bait....bait.....why do some people love baiting other people....oh, wait....i think it has something to do with the other kind of 'bating...also, I've been coming to this website everyday since wimp.com used to be just a grey page and yourdailymedia was still a thing sooooo for those who have obtained some sort of valuable information by hovering over my name you can go bake yourself a pie. And perhaps explain to a poor mute fool like me how to add a url to a post without it being dedacted like an idiot.

The Plight Of Poor Irish Women

noims says...

That's great stuff. I was thinking of doing some transcription/translation, but couldn't do the wordplay justice.

I think the presentation is universal enough that the intention comes across regardless of locality; unfortunately this is also true of the subject matter.

Looking around on Irish forums, I see a fair few accusations of click-bait, heavy handedness, and reliance on tropes. From what I can tell, though, the accusations are mostly from people far removed from the situation by class and gender, as so often happens, and is pretty much directly referenced in the poem.

RT -- Chris Hedges on Media, Russia and Intelligence

radx says...

Two days ago, there was a forum/panel about freedom & democracy, where the lineup included: Jeremy Scahill, Edward Snowden, Paul Jay (of TRN), Rick Wolff, and others.

Now, I know I'm biased when it comes to the topics of surveillance, the war on terror, capitalism, etc, but that does sound like a panel worth reporting on, doesn't it? It's not frontpage stuff, sure, but a column/comment online...

Nothing, last I checked. Not a peep.

Who did report on it? RT Germany.

As far as I am concerned, RT is a valid source, as long as you remain aware of their (pro-Russia) angle. It's actually a great source for stuff on the US or the UK, most of the time. Just like I've seen good stuff on Russia in the Swiss media, unlike the red-baiting so prevelant in the WaPo these days.

I don't disagree with the conclusions about being blacklisted by mainstream media, but moving on to a propaganda house is not the road to virtue.

The media I choose is mostly mainstream, biased to shit, misrepresented as often as not, and a steaming pile of shit....but it's the best I can find. As long as I look at it that way, I can usually listen close enough to know when they've moved into opinion or conjecture, and watch enough and I can figure out which facts are at least agreed on, if not which are correct.

Cavuto: How does it feel to be dismissed, CNN?

newtboy says...

Obama never acted so infantile and rude to Faux news, even though they are much worse about spreading fake news. He answered their questions and gave them many (>11) interviews where they consistently asked loaded bait questions, hounded him about fake scandals, taunted, insulted, and rudely interrupted him over and over, he even sat down with Oreilly again after papa bear was such an insulting disrespectful asshole the first time. He did call them out a few times, but mostly just ignored the insanity they spew.
Trump, on the other hand, can't let any slight go without becoming unhinged, and he retaliates like a 2 year old at any perceived enemy, and fawns over anyone that compliments him. CNN had the audacity to report an unflattering but important story about claims being made about the president elect and so they'll be blacklisted for his administrations term (imagine if the same story was about Obama, any news organization not talking about it would be called apologists and left wing propagandists that should be strung up from the nearest tree) Such transparent hyper narcissism, so easily exploited by others much smarter than he, makes him incredibly dangerous for us all.
Singling out a news organization that's not been friendly to you as liars and treating them as enemies is a clearly recognized Nazi tactic they used in their rise to power. It should be watched carefully lest this behavior evolves into totalitarian fascism.

How We Lie to Ourselves

Self Defense?

newtboy says...

So, a woman or weaker man can just punch and scratch you in the face all day, and you'll do nothing and never fear for your safety?
I doubt it.
Get repeatedly physically attacked by a crazy, violent, race baiting, but smaller woman (or smaller man) then judge.
If it were a man exactly her size that hit him twice and hurled racial slurs, would you still think his reaction wrong? If not, you're just being sexist, if so, please explain.

I do have to say, after viewing the video, I'd have kicked his ass so hard he'd have to stand on his head to take a shit.

Unless she had a weapon, he was never in any danger. He just belted her because he was pissed off.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) - Official Trailer

RFlagg says...

I'll hold judgement until I see the final movie itself. While I was initially disturbed they recast her race, this is far in the future and one would think races are more spread evenly, so I'll give them a pass on the "whitewash". It looks like it got the look/feel of the original anime. If this works out, hopefully Akira can be done with a proper treatment (though that one is a bit harder to realize in live action).

EDIT: Typical click bait story ending, "tell us how you feel about the whitewashing of the movie in the comments below".

Honest Trailers - Ghostbusters (2016)

dannym3141 says...

Of course, it didn't help that it really wasn't funny.

That's not to do with the all women cast though because I don't like most of the comedies from Hollywood - especially the ones from the new gang of male comedy leads that they just churn out one after another.

In fact, of all recent American comedies the ones that have stood out to me have been The Other Woman and The Heat, both of which are all female leads with very little male involvement. I can't think of any male led ones that I liked, certainly nowhere near as much as those two.

But one line that made a lot of sense in there was when it said "proves once and for all that girls can make middle of the road studio-mandated franchise bait just as well as the boys!" -- which is a really good point. Men are churning out all those shit comedies, why not women too? I don't like any of them, and they deserve equality in my apathy.

That bit of sarcasm was worth it simply to troll bait bobknight into a downvote. He either thinks I'm being intolerant to my friend PlayhousePals, who upvoted my quite obvious silly comment, or he's giving me a bit of the ol' counter sarcasm. Tough cookie that bob. Committed enough for a hilarious downvote.

Black Lives Matter Less - Vlogbrothers

What have you offered? Stats but no argument?

I mean really. Are you just baiting, Bobtroll33, or do you really have a Klan robe in the back of your closet somewhere?

So you have nothing to offer. typical for a liberal.

Jonathan Pie on Brexit

ChaosEngine says...

Well, Johnson was a puppet, shafted by the very people who put him in the position he found himself in. Gove seems to think he's Francis Urquhart/Underwood, but isn't actually that good at the game.

As for Farage, a race-baiting idiot who is so awful that you have to cover what he says just because it's a political car crash in slow motion..... hmmm, that reminds me of someone else... nope, can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's something to do with small hands?

Jinx said:

As for blame...hmm. Can't say I'm particularly sad to see Cameron go, but you do get a feeling of "better the devil you know" when you see the other contenders. This referendum would have been up for play at the next election regardless too. Boris and Gove were the greater opportunists by far. You want rash and reckless? Look no further - Power at any cost. I think the greatest blame is with the media. Not just the tabloids either, even the BBC gave disproportionate coverage to Farage - its the classic chicken-egg thing of them simultaneously wanting to cover what is popular whilst also having massive influence over what is popular.

How Brexit Snuck Up On Everyone - Nerdwriter

iaui says...

A fascinating look at the factors leading up to the Brexit. "Race-baiting, Nationalism, and Fear" Sounds familiar. Seems to be a common theme in semi-successful election campaigns. We in Canada voted against that kind of nonsense in our latest federal election, thankfully.

I wonder, though, if the Brexit will actually happen? Will UKIP win the election for leadership of the UK? Are the other parties interested in stewarding Britain through the exit? I ask partly because I don't really know and don't have much perspective on the whole matter and am interested in your opinions of it.

Traffic cops get new tech to seize money off your credit car

Januari says...

Wow... that sounds horrible... I would have loved to know... well really anything about it.

Seems strange to me when your clearly pushing an agenda the way RT pretty much always is that they wouldn't produce the evidence they surely had to have to even run a story like this... right?.... right?

Civil forfeiture is a VERY real thing, but this kind of click-bait 'journalism' does nothing to help.

@ulysses1904 I wouldn't hold your breath. I find RT news makes Fox look truly fair and balanced.

The Friend Zone

entr0py says...

True I think most friendzone complaints come from guys who are just faking friendship for the prospect of future boning. Those guys are already assholes, and blaming the woman for not falling for their bait and switch scam only compounds their assholery.

Though to be a little more sympathetic, lots of relationships start from friendships. And knowing when you've been placed permanently in the friend category can save you some embarrassment. You don't need to be resentful about her decision to care about it.

Imagoamin said:

The friend zone casually explained:

Just because you like someone doesn't mean they're required to like you back and someone not constantly considering how you want to fuck them doesn't mean you're being slighted.

How is "the friend zone" even still a thing? Jesus.
