As an obsessive pedant, this is good to know, as this whole thing plays out in my head every time I hear the word "Audi" or see one. My attempts to find some sort of authoritative answer to the question have only lead me to arguments on Yahoo Answers and the like.

I must, however, object to the word "complaining".

The latin pronunciation of the word would indeed be ow dee oh, meaning to hear or to listen to... it would certainly start ow, actually I'm not 100% sure of the last sound (which is missing in the car name anyway).

Correct or not for a German company, it is the latin pronunciation of a latin word which leads to the situation you are complaining about.

You might find the following also interesting:

As many now, "Quattro" started as a specific Audi Model, introduced 1980. The huge success and fame of this model led to the "Quattro" suffix of all the following AWD Audis. But funny enough the original Audi Quattro (or "Ur-Quattro" in German) was planned to be named Audi Carat, an acronym for "Coupe All-Rad-Antrieb Turbo" which translates to "all wheel drive turbo coupe". But Audi tossed that because of a perfume of that time with a rather questionable target group's image...

Always thought it was funny that Audi chose the *Italian* word for four...
although I guess Audi Vier doesn't sound as good.

No. Let me help:

1) Not 2012 but 1994-1997.
2) There's no "AWD" with Audi, it's simply "Quattro".
3) It's not an A4, it's based on an A6. The first one by the way, successor to Audi's "100" series.
4) It's not a 2.0T, it's a naturally aspirated V8.
5) Above is also the reason why i wrote "based on an A6" because it's an S6 to be precise. The little badge on the trunk is a giveaway.
