KVUE Austin TX Closed Caption labels Child Victim as Monkey

Sagemind says...

As someone with a deaf person in the family, I've watched a lot of Closed caption TV. I also have someone in my family who types translation for Medical Transcription who types reports in real time. An amazing feat, typing 120 words per minute.

Some text is Pre-typed like in TV shows and Movies.
Some text is Auto typed by a computer
And some text is physically being typed by someone live in real time.

You can usually tell if it's typed in real time, because they can be running one or two sentences behind as they try to keep up. It's a very unforgiving medium. Once typed it's broadcasted. You can't just go back in time and remove it. A lot of this typing uses Auto-complete on typing words to speed up the typist to keep the typing in line with the audio.
This is most likely what happened in this case, as the Auto completion incorrectly chose the wrong word.

Don't read into things more than what's there. If you've watched as much closed caption as I have, you'd know that mistakes happen constantly, especially on live broadcast news stories. This is one example out of maybe 20-30 mistakes that will come up in an hour of time.

Baby Iguana Being Chased By Snakes

Iron Body Technique

Mordhaus says...

If he was attempting to levitate or talk to the dead, I would agree. However, the human body is capable of many things that we would consider impossible. Consider small women lifting cars off their children, etc.

The brain and nervous system put limiters on our body to protect it, this is fact, however with training or via fight or flight response, it is possible to temporarily override those natural limitations to perform amazing feats.

Yes, the drill was not the right type of bit to go through flesh and he may have been pushing against it, but to not break the skin and for him to resist the pain, that is amazing. The title of the video does not mean I believe in some mystical technique that allows the body to resist damage, it was more of a joke. I do believe that through years of conditioning and training that this person has managed some feats that you or I would be seriously injured by.

Gimmicks and trickery, just like levitation. He/they are con-artists, nothing more.

My bloodhount caught a dead rabbit once. When faced with the possibility of it being taken from him, he threw his head back and ate it whole in one gulp. We thought it was an amazing feat.

I assume you mean the eating in one gulp part, because catching a dead rabbit ain't no thang.

After six hours Djokovic and Nadal nearly collapse

yellowc says...

I dunno if you honestly believe that or have just never played a sport to exhaustion or if you even watched the game. It was an amazing feat of endurance, kept at a very high level till the last point.

In the game, you push yourself to the extreme, the activity and the focus is keeping you distracted from the pain, not to mention your body pumping the crap out of various chemicals to keep it tolerable.

Once you cool down, that all ends and everything hits you. Every muscle in their body must have essentially given up. So asking them to stand for another 6 minutes in cool down is outright cruel, let alone disrespectful.

I mean, on one hand, they were obviously zonked and needed rest. On the other hand, if the match had gone on for six more minutes, they would have actually kept playing. So asking them to endure a couple speeches isn't /that/ disrespectful.

USA is a "meat, sugar, alcohol culture". Sweden I would say is coffee, sugar, alcohol.
Cannabis is a huge part of Indian culture is my point. The world is full of people doing amazing feats with cannabis in their bodies.
