Variably lucky child receives toothpaste surprise party

moonsammy says...

Many children get cancer, and many survive. I know several. Anyone in that category is lucky, but unlucky to have had cancer in the first place. But none of the survivors I know have featured in the videos of prominent Youtubers (or any other celebrities), or received gifts of absurdly spectacular birthday parties.

I dunno. "Variably lucky" felt apt.

Isn't it a little insensitive to call a kid who is a cancer survivor a "Variably lucky child"?

Professor Brian Harvey On Why Not To Cheat

kir_mokum says...

this should be painfully obvious to anyone. "drugs", "recreational drugs", and "everyone" are all such insanely broad terms that making/taking any statement using them literally is absurd. OF COURSE there are caveats. even if i was a fentanyl wholesaler trying to destabilized a country there would still a laundry list of caveats.

you guys should do more drugs about it.

On funny: I always found such vitriolic expressions for broadcast sports overly-ridiculous therefore being ripe for the absurd.

Equally, I regarded the various protestations of my parents growing up in similar lights, often amplifying my troubles due to “inappropriate laughing”.

Biden: "I'm going to beat Joe Biden" Skip to 10:10

BSR says...

Just want to say I agree. I found this video to be absurd and Biden already has my vote. The last I registered to vote was my freshman year in H.S. I voted once and never again since then.

I have since registered again for the sole purpose of helping to push Trump back out onto the streets. If Trump was good for anything it was that he inspired me to vote for the second time in my life. I always tend to look for the good in people.

Biden, when he misspeaks, usually corrects himself. He does make mistakes, and he does correct them - less/fewer, wind/windmills and so on. Come on man.

I know it's impolite to laugh at the mentally ill, but I just spit my coffee out at your absurdity. Lol.

90% of covid 19 deaths in America are directly attributable to Trump moronically dragging his feet for weeks on taking it seriously and issuing federal guidelines according to an analysis done by epidemiologists. That's 63000 Americans Trump's inaction and lackadaisical attitude killed....remember Benghazzi? That was over 4 unforeseeable deaths. By election time Trump will have over 100000 American deaths on his hands and the crumbled economy and bankrupt treasury that go along with them, and there's the direct comparison of S Korea to prove intelligent leadership could have avoided all of that.

Diversity and inclusion meeting ... at Michigan school

You have to look a little closer. Of course it is absurd to say you can't complain about bullying AND still love America. The guy who spoke is a racist and when he's saying "you", he's meaning "you people", meaning any people that fall outside whatever his notion of "true" Americans is. The white guy beside him could probably make a similar complaint, but not some Mexican immigrant.

Or in short, racist rationalizations unsurprisingly don't stand up to logic.

People who annoy you

And I'm (poorly) addressing the absurdity of claiming a word belongs to one group and may only be used by that group.

I think only those wishing to be thought of as ni#*ers should use the word, no matter their heritage.

I don't agree that the same goes for redneck, cracker, peckerwood, milk toast, white trash, or similar white descriptors/slurs....at least not in America.

There's a difference that's multilayered.

We Believe: The Best Men Can Be - Gillette Ad

bcglorf says...

I have strong feelings on how people should treat each other. The blast of comments(some your own included) declaring that it's absurd for people to dislike the profiling of most men as violent and sexually abusive, or making excuses for same, are what I am calling out for the sexism that it is.

As for joining the chorus, that's kind of exactly the opposite of what I've been trying to communicate. Picking teams and setting yourself on team man/woman or white/black or straight/gay or dem/rep is one of the awful trends in society today. I want to get away from that thank you very much. I don't have the attributation for the quote but I'd pass you this as advice:
"When you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect"

For strikeout you can use the html 'strike' tag, never knew before this thread or not if it worked on the sift either.

BSR said:

I don't think this ad IS a big yawn for you. It looks to me like you have some pretty passionate feelings about it. That's a good thing. But I also think your passion would be better spent and be more effective in accomplishing your goal if it was harnessed and controlled.

A lot of the work has already been done for you. All you have to do is join the chorus. I think you'll come to find that you have some very powerful people on your side.

BTW, how do you do that strikethrough thing in your text?
