Hmmmm...ok, that's not legislation but is what I meant. A forced buyback program is going to have issues.

1) I have no problem with companies having to answer for injuries caused by the prescribed, advertised proper use of their product. If shoes were sold as having the greatest shin kicking power, doing the most damage when you kick someone, shoe manufacturers should be sued by those who get kicked. If manufacturers haven't modeled and advertised in a way that suggests dangerous uses, the suits will lose. Lawyers don't take loser cases, so it won't be an issue imo. Special protections from liability are a problem imo.

2) I've never understood the endgame there. What is an assault rifle, and how are their capabilities special? That said, no one is clamoring for Uzis to come back. Without a legitimate reason for high capacity fast shooting rifles, and no attempts to ban semi auto rifles, I'm just not that bothered by it, but I do think it's placating not meaningful legislation.

3) I have zero issues with registration or background checks. That seems the right way to deal with "assault rifles". There's no reason it should be expensive or time consuming if records are up to date. If they make it expensive as a tax disincentive against ownership, I have a problem. Shooting isn't a cheap sport, $10-20 a year shouldn't bother those who spent $2k on one rifle.

4) No issue at all with voluntary buy backs. Involuntary buybacks are going to be a legal and practical nightmare.

5) one purchase per month, a bit much. One purchase at a time, I'm ok with, that's 3 a month, right? I'm suspicious of anyone who needs multiple guns quick before they calm down.

6) I'm all for universal background checks. I don't want nutjob and violent criminals buying guns they aren't allowed to own.

7) I'm all for not allowing those who can't handle day to day existence to buy guns. I'm even ok with TEMPORARY removal of their guns in some cases, but only if they're returned immediately after they're deemed competent.

misdemeanor hate crime? I thought hate crime was an enhancement charge that took a misdemeanor up to felony level. I'm definitely against taking gun rights away permanently for misdemeanors.

9) dunno what that is.

10) the problem is you can buy a receiver that needs to be finished, as little as one tiny drill hole is enough, with no serial number or registration. It's just a chunk of metal until it's finished. No problem with a background check for every purchase, but a maximum of one check per month seems a reasonable compromise.

11) with proper oversight and a system that ensures it's not abused, no problem for me.

12) Yes, strict guidelines and quick return seem necessary. 48 hours without a doctor stating it's necessary would work, but as of now they aren't ready for prime time on that it seems.

13) had that in cali forever, not an issue yet.

14) as designed, smart guns wouldn't be hackable, there's no reason for wireless connectivity. Battery? Make it charge itself by shaking it like some flashlights? I like the idea that guns can only be used by the owner, solves so many issues, mainly being shot with your own gun.

15) depends on what constitutes "safe". I agree, guns for home defense need to be available quickly.

16) some ghost guns are milled on professional cnc mills but unfinished. 3d printed guns, I'm not a fan. 3 shots is plenty to murder someone, and with no identification it's a near perfect weapon for crimes.
3d printing is advancing constantly. You can print in metal with fine details now on home equipment. I think it won't be long before stable guns can be printed if they aren't already.

Thanks for doing the research. I seriously doubt most could pass even a democratic congress but some would, and most won't pass court challenges, but I understand your reluctance to put that to the test.

If you're going to fight the swamp thing, I won't argue against leaving a few snakes in the black lagoon. Some opposition is healthy, but the ability to be obstructionist on every idea is gridlock. I don't see it getting better.

Tulsa - Lincoln Project

newtboy says...

So, how was the rally? Plenty of leg room, right?
<6200, not even 1/3 filled, and zero overflow. I think even you know who's winning "the fight" now.

Btw, before you blame k-pop fans for fake ticket requests, know the campaign has already said they made no difference, and instead blamed their own anti protest propaganda showing armed guards photoshopped into stock photos and flaming riots in the Seattle CHAZ zone caused by scary antifa anarchists that were actually pictures of St Paul. They also blamed reporting on the accelerating Covid 19 outbreak. Odd, none of that stopped the crowds from coming out to party elsewhere in massive numbers....only at the Trump rally in Tulsa.

<6200, not millions. Hate to tell you, that's really about Trump. At this rate, we're seeing the death throws of the Republican party. Trump is now searching the swamp for help, hiring Carl Rove and other reptilian wastes of skin. That won't win him any votes, Americans know Rove as a hard core swamp thing. Thank him for losing the Senate too.

Oh yeah, don't forget that there were more right wing extremist terrorists arrested this weekend for trying to start riots and committing murders intending to blame Black Lives Matter and Antifa. Right wing "news" suddenly stopped covering the multiple cops murdered in California and the multiple bombs found in the murderers possession when it turned out he's one of them, a right wing extremist....going from full blown outrage and "didn't his life matter" to total silence. Just like the other team caught in Vegas, outrage and insistence on labeling blm a terrorist organization until it turned out the terrorism is perpetrated by right wingers, then suddenly stop discussing the facts and just call blm terrorists anyway. These are your team, your good people, starting fires, shooting cops and unarmed protesters, driving into crowds again, trying to start race wars, making bombs, and trying to blame BLM and Antifa for their actions but they're so dumb they texted/emailed these terroristic plans to each other so we have proof that this was their plan...a plan Trump has supported by blaming blm for their crimes repeatedly. *facepalm

The fight is not about Biden VS Trump. POTUS come and go.

Its really about Dems VS REPs. ...

Isn't that exactly what Trump said, that the investigation of him was illegal because Democrats were involved, making it partisan? That since what he claimed was the impetus (or as he says, the oranges) for the investigation was an imperfect dossier the whole thing was illegal?
The impetus for his Biden witch hunt is unambiguously a made up story by corrupt Ukrainians that doesn't fit the documented facts in the slightest, which every professional involved told him clearly, a fake story furthered directly by Trump in public.

In fact, it is hands off for the president. Using the power of the office to direct investigations of political rivals is impeachable.
Using the office to blackmail foreign powers to interfere in our election by starting false investigations for political reasons is a crime.
Taking foreign money in exchange for illegal and corrupt policies that are against the national interests but personally beneficial is treason. He has done exactly that.

But in YOUR mind, Treasonous Trump can do no wrong, and things that were treason when you baselessly claimed Democrats did them are patriotism when Trump brags about them. You can't even understand that Trump openly committed the very crime he was convinced by foreign criminals Biden committed...using the power of his office and public funds to pressure foreign investigations for personal gain...the difference being Trump did it secretly for personal political gains and was caught, Biden didn't do anything besides join international and bipartisan efforts to remove a corrupt prosecutor who wouldn't prosecute corruption. Trump removed a top notch anti corruption diplomat because she wouldn't push for a corrupt and baseless politically motivated investigation of his political rival, exactly what the corrupt Ukrainians had paid him to do.

Trump couldn't come up with any other corruption he wants investigated besides the Biden fantasy he was sold, and when asked exactly what he expected from Ukraine, he said he specifically expected them to investigate Biden, not fight corruption. Same for China, which was not a joke or trolling of the public, his trade advisor admitted he brought it up in official trade talks before he said it publicly.

You keep chanting 'he'll drain the swamp' ignoring he is the swamp thing, and the swampiest administration ever with more corruption convictions than any two administrations combined (an educated guess, might be >2) and more scandals than any 10 combined.

If I weren't sure you were a Russian troll only trying to sew division with ridiculous republican regurgitation of baseless claims based on delusion and corruption, I would be seriously worried about your mental state.

Edit: remember these days in 15 months. When Democrats control congress and the executive, the same "see no evil" tactics will be more than fair play. No matter how unconstitutional their actions might be, no matter how unacceptable, we will see no wrong....just cleaning up the Trump mess. Nothing to worry about.

So in you mind as long as Joe is running for an office he is hands off from investigating.

Trump is not trying to get dirt of a candidate but to continue his effort to drain the swamp, which Joe seems to be neck deep in it.

Yeah no thanks. Looks dumb. I watched the original Swamp Thing when I was a kid, and, like, wasn't he, like, a good guy who helped solve crimes or whatever but was misunderstood by most everyone but the few he let know he exists? Here, he's basically out to kill everyone? It looks campy, but it's trying to be serious? I'm totally confused. AND to top it off, they want to charge me to join yet another fucking streaming service just to watch this questionable-as-all-fuck nonsense? Fuck this shit. That's a meganope from me.

I don't think this has anything to do with the Swamp Thing movie, but more the Alan Moore and forward era.

But yeah, Doom Patrol is the only other one that I'd really want to see there as Titans doesn't look worth while. This was a case, much like Stargate Universe, where partnering with an existing service would have made more sense. Perhaps with Disney pulling all the Marvel stuff to Disney+, and assuming DC Universe doesn't make enough, perhaps they'll partner with Netflix or something.

My thought process: "Oh, I liked the campy 80's Swamp Thing movie, and this looks interesting. Only on DC Universe? Hmm... let's see... $8 a month? Yeah... nope."

There has to be a streaming video market contraction. It's insane to think people are going to sign up for a ton of individual hyper-focused channels. I guess if you're super into DC this might seem like a great deal, but it completely loses them any casual or only mildly-curious viewers.

AOC Exposes The Dark Side - "Let's Play A Game"

newtboy says...

$3 billion? Aaaaaahahahaha! Says him?! Oh Bob, hang your head in shame.

Edit: How much has he and his family milked the presidency for so far? Hundreds of millions certainly when you include Ivanka's special trade deals, the apartments sold to foreign agents at 10-100 times market value, and the rental of his properties by the same and other foreign agents at above market value, the milking our treasury, requiring the secret service pay him to be allowed to guard him at his properties.....sweet zombie Jebus, no one has ever abused the office or any other like he has, with your full blessing. Don't feign indignation now at others.

Earned?! Aaaaaaahahahaha! He inherited it Bob....and stole it from rubes like you pretend to be.

Are you claiming McCain got his money in some untoward way, or just implying it because you have zero evidence of any such thing but want people to think you do? You, as a Trumpeteer, have some gall accusing others of making their money in some underhanded way, no matter what they might have done it pales in comparison to the known, admitted frauds and swindles your leader brags about with pride.

Bob, Trump's administration's leaders have been found guilty on 24 counts so far in under 2 years with 89 charges SO FAR.....and many more removed in disgrace for abusing their offices for personal enrichment..... that's far more corrupt than Nixon after the break in and cover-up. There has never been another administration 1/4 as swampy as Trump's. NEVER.

Trump himself is an admitted and convicted fraud who stole money from the ignorant poor with his fake schools....and charities....and businesses....and every contract he's ever been involved with.
He's called the swamp thing for a reason.

Trumps net worth 3 Billion . At least he earned his $.

U.S. congressional salary is 174k today

McCain, In 2016, the senator was worth $14.8 million.
Pelosi , Net Worth: -$58.7 million to $72.1 million
Ried net worth is between 3 and 10 million dollars.
This does not take into account the back door funding that enrich family members.

Most political figures have all lined their pockets over the years. It is call a swamp for a reason.

Advice on E-Book Readers (Comics Talk Post)

JiggaJonson says...

@critical_d Don't listen to these fools.

If you want something that will take the place of books, get a dedicated E-reader.
I own a Nook ($99) and thoroughly enjoy the following aspects of it:

1) The text/display looks like paper/ink
2) You can read it in the very bright environments (even in direct sunlight)
3) You don't have to charge it after 4 hours of reading, instead, I charge mine about once every other month. Yes, you read that right, I only need to charge it every-other-month.

Yes, nay-sayers will tell you "but it can't do __________ and it can't do ___________"

To them I say "it does ONE thing REALLY WELL, it allows me to read books/newspapers"

See:

Now, IF you have your heart set on just reading comic books, yes the Kindle Fire is your best bang for your buck currently: http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/11/16/142310104/why-amazon-loses-money-on-every-kindle-fire

p.s. If you've not read it, Alan Moore's The Saga of the Swamp Thing is VERY FUCKING GOOD. It's much better than The Watchmen imho.
