What? Where can you buy a gaming rig that's better than a PS4 for under $350 with a game and a controller?
Also, you can't rent PC games like you can for consoles. I've played 25+ games last year thanks to gamefly. Purchased for PC I could have afforded <4 at the same price. That's the best reason I can think of for consoles over PC. Don't get me wrong, for pure quality, PC's have had it over consoles for quite a while, but consoles are pure game machines (well, kind of pure), they do 1080p these days (on some games), and they run on my TV without a cable running across the floor!

I never understood this "PC master race" BS.

Console software big releases like GTA 5 rake in probably about 10x the revenue that a similar release does on PC. That's because PC gaming is really for hobbyists--people who have the technical skill, time, and disposable income to tweak drivers, overclock processors and video cards, and get a 12k monitor setup working correctly.

Consoles meanwhile work right out of the box with a TV you probably already own. Plus these days you can get almost exactly the same selection of games on either PC or console (with a few "exclusives" on one or the other). So most people are clearly going to go the console route.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with console gaming. There's probably something wrong with you, though, if you somehow feel threatened enough by consoles to diss them.

While you probably wouldn't use an arcade machine, an online PC game that uses a HOTAS... and perhaps Oculus Rift could be the testing ground. Say something like Elite: Dangerous or Star Citizen. You don't have the kid get into a stranger's car, did Alex never learn "stranger danger" lol. It could actually build into a franchise if you handle it properly...

Once in a great while, you'll get a cool person on the other side that is willing to use a little logic instead of running through the flowchart/checklist.

My college roommate was playing a PC game when his monitor flickered, sparked, and started spewing smoke. He told that to the CSR on the phone and they said "...I think we can skip the first half of these questions." Ended up being a 5 minute call, with a new monitor arriving in the mail a day and a half later. So, occasionally it works.

online PC gaming is slightly more mature than xbox. I tried a few times to play xbox 360 online, each match devolved into the same pre-teen squealing in my ear. Cancelled xbox Live Gold as soon as Netflix app was on PS3. Never looked back.

You can't put these side-by-side and assume that you're seeing the best of each platform. It's really just a faster computer... so it would be the same as taking a PC game and comparing 'med' and 'ultra' settings. If you compare GAMES from the launch of a console to the launch of the next gen, there will be a bigger difference as game studios figure out how far they can push the hardware and no longer have to support the older platform. The ceiling for what can be done has just been raised... that's all.

That being said, whatever was being used to get those peeling paint-chips on the door (looked better than a regular normal map) are pretty impressive on the new console.

Definitely going back to my PC roots this generation. Absolutely none of the new consoles are wooing me. Too much shit that has nothing to do with games and zero backwards compatibility so there is just zero incentive.. So fuck them all.
