Low-Fat Foods Are Making You Fatter - Adam Ruins Everything

transmorpher says...

Good point, I was too lazy to post the link, my bad. List of quotes from people who Gary has misrepresented: http://www.bodyforwife.com/an-open-letter-to-gary-taubes/

(for newtboy, notice how this is not a vegan website, nor are the people complaining about Gary Taubes vegan researchers)

Sugar consumption going down since the late 90s https://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/data-mine/2014/02/25/surprise-american-sugar-consumption-is-on-the-decline

Indeed this video is about sugar, but it's a common strategy to use sugar to demonise carbs(the only research you will ever find where "carbs" are bad for you, always use sugar of some type). Every single popular diet today uses this kind of shitty research to back up their diets. They're all variations of low-carb: atkins, paleo, keto, isogenics etc because this is what sells the most animal products, which is a far more lucrative industry than grains and beans. But possibly more importantly it doesn't work in the long run! So you have repeat customers. They lose weight quickly for 6 months, then in 12-18 months time they are heavier than how they started.

BTW this is vegan http://www.blogto.com/restaurants/doomies-toronto/

You don't have to eat healthy all the time once you are at a stable weight and your other biosigns are good, pig out every now and then .

Life won't be so short this way ;-) (on average 13 years longer)

They're talking about sugar, not carbs.

"Gary Taubes, who's made a living misrepresenting science."
How so? If you're going to make such a claim, back it up.

"Despite sugar consumption going down"
Really? I have yet to see any evidence that that's the case.

"Stuff your face with this food "
Eh, life is way too short to eat vegan food.

Anita Sarkeesian: 'What I Couldn't Say'

GenjiKilpatrick says...

Okay Enzo. I've already been thru this with Newtboy.

I don't want to have another pointless back and forth.

I'm not trying to start a flame war.

So please explain what you're citing as "the truth" in that seemingly bias "rational"wiki page.

[I say that because "hate-train" doesn't seem like very objective or academic terminology]

Please explain away this instance of Sarkeesian's theft and misappropriation of a female artist's work.

http://cowkitty.net/post/78808973663/you-stole-my-artwork-an-open-letter-to-anita

And this instance of fabricated gameplay footage from Hitman: Absolution.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuRSaLZidWI&t=149

The footage she uses in her FemFreq video implies that the ENTIRE point of this section of the game is to brutalize women.

When, in fact, the game penalizes players for killing ANY civilians.

Every other legitimate walk-through of this game & mission clearly shows the player completely avoiding the exotic dancers.

Please do your best to avoid semantics and objectively justify this behavior. Thanks

Anita Sarkeesian: 'What I Couldn't Say'

GenjiKilpatrick says...

Open Letter to VideoSift:

Please don't support Anita Sarkeesian.

She's a con-artist whose tactics are damaging to the issues, causes, & movements she claims to advocate.

Here's my evidence:
http://videosift.com/video/Porn-Actress-Mercedes-Carrera-LOSES-IT-With-Modern-Feminists#comment-1854142

If anyone can succinctly explain how her history, tactics & actions don't amount to fraud, I'll concede & never speak out about her on the sift again.

Otherwise, I feel like it's an imperative to inform everyone - who finds her or her campaigns/messages relevant - of the behavior that Sarkeesian displays.

Con-artists should be called out.

No matter how politically progressive their platform might be.

Peace, happy debating.
Essie.

TYT - GOP Leaders Betray U.S. By Writing Letter to Iran

newtboy says...

Sure sounds like it fits the Logan Act to a T to me. Just because others did it and weren't charged in the past doesn't invalidate the clearly broken law.
Can anyone charge them with treason, or does it have to come from the DOJ, because I'm ready! Imagine, 3 years with standing, but absent republicans "in charge" of congress (but no longer having a majority vote)! Hilarious!
I love it that, in their 'open letter', they completely misrepresent the facts, congress doesn't ratify treaties as they claimed, nor does it take 2/3 vote to concede and let the president ratify them, and he doesn't need their concession anyway. D'oh! Another republican mega-fail. I hope they go down hard this time.

A violation of the 1799 Logan Act, which says starkly:

“Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.”

Open Letter to Ellen Degeneres: Don't Promote A Psychic

bareboards2 says...

It is more likely that Ellen will see the whole thing if it goes viral. Hence the "open letter" aspect.

And there is where we get down to it, isn't it? Your opinion, my opinion. Yours carries no more weight than mine, yeah?

ChaosEngine said:

... it's just really poorly done IMO.

Open Letter to Ellen Degeneres: Don't Promote A Psychic

ChaosEngine says...

1) it's clearly not for Ellen alone. It's the 21st century equivalent of the open letter. It's meant to have mass appeal so Ellen will see it. Somehow I doubt Ellen watches every video she's sent and even if she just sent it privately...

2) that's no excuse for the condescending tone and the poorly presented argument. Ellen is no doubt a busy woman and will only ever hear a summary of this anyway.

3) Ellen is not a complete idiot. I'm sure she's aware of the criticisms against psychics. So that means she either a) believes in psychics, b) doesn't put any stock in the criticisms or c) knows they're frauds, but figures they get good ratings.

And yes, it would be fantastic if this worked. If it does, I will publicly stand up and applaud skepchick. But I really wish she'd done a better job of this. For someone who makes a living doing this kinda thing, it's just really poorly done IMO.

edit: And just for the record, I didn't realise it was Watson when I first watched it.

Those folks who are criticizing the way this video was put together -- you have completely missed who it was made for. It was made for ELLEN DEGENERES. The person. The TV host. Not you, not the masses. She is trying to get Ellen to back off from giving air time.

I thought she did a great job in achieving her goal. I'm sure Ellen will be shown this vid.

She might even change her mind about having her on.

And isn't that a good thing? No TV exposure, this is a good thing, yes?
