Strawberry Mansion looks like a fantastical wild ride

JiggaJonson says...

Actually, I've been finding oddball films like this to be somewhat comforting.

Looking for a reason why bob is who he is? sometimes people are fucking insane. We need to accept that.

Early exchange.

Could you look for my dog maybe when you're out running?

I dont run.

What? I see you run by my house every day.

nope. I hate running.

Why are you lying to me?

Look, you can believe what you want

True Facts : Dragonflies

Stormsinger says...

Just one? He was probably one of those oddball gamer dragonflies, hoping to snag a few minutes of playtime.

Payback said:

I had a workstation set up in my garage. Every year, about midsummer, a dragonfly would fly up in front of my face, hover, checking out what I was doing onscreen for about 10-15 seconds, then leave. Coolest freaking thing ever. Must have been something about the refresh rate or colours, but still hilarious.

The Marvel Symphonic Universe

Jinx says...

I couldn't think of any, but then the "I've got no strings on me" from the Avengers trailer came to mind... but did they ever actual use that theme in the movie? It's strange that they'll use a fairly oddball re-imagining of a Pinocchio song for a trailer and then they score the movie quite so blandly.

Man Goes The Distance For Hummingbird His Dog Helped Rescue

interesting story-but what is also very interesting is why the man does not make the connection between the dog and bird he helped to save and the tortured farmed animals who's flesh, milk and eggs he very likely consumes on a daily basis.

“The only difference between a dog, cat, horse and dolphin and a cow, chicken, pig and turkey is perception. One is no more valuable than another. And yet in this culture, we hold the former animals in high esteem and the latter we brutalize for food. All animals are deserving of respect and freedom from violence. The way to respect others is veganism.

GameSoundCon 2010: "Introduction to Game Audio"

artician says...

Well, I like all the classics like early Megaman, Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Hitoshi Sakimoto, anything from Falcom (Y's, Xanadu, etc).
There are some truly oddball compositions out there that are dear to me, like a lot of the work of Zuntata, which was an in-house band for Taito in the 90's. Similarly, a lot of the weird, sample-based music from the Amiga-era, from people like Chris Huelsbeck, Dave Wittaker and Rob Hubbard.
In recent years, from Japan I've really gotten into anything that Yoko Shimomura has done, and Michiru Yamane upended/revitalized some of the later Castlevania's music in the best way possible.
I will always go to Koichi Sugiyama's Dragon Quest music whenever I want to turn someone on to truly beautiful game compositions (chills), or just relax. Also Matt Uelmen's music for Diablo 2 and Torchlight games also veers toward more contemporary genre's, but is atmospheric, masterful and provides a really well-done alternative sound for what we usually get in interactive media.
Some super strange stuff that just sticks out as not belonging anywhere else: Katamari Damacy's OST, the VibRibbon soundtrack, the Neverhood soundtrack by Terry Taylor, the hidden gem that is the "Moon: Remix RPG Adventure" soundtrack (seriously a great one; check it out).
I have a lot of game music and it's my primary soundtrack while I work.

Whar are your favorite game tunes?

Yay! I've been telling people for years we lived through a really unique period in music history with game soundtracks. We're kind of in the twilight of that now, but it brought us a lot of really oddball and interesting experimental music and new genre's (ish) along the way.

Silver Vs Chocolate

oohlalasassoon says...

I could almost see this as legit because:

1. Even if these people are total oddballs that naturally trust random street weirdos giving things away, the choice that is offered would have to make even the most trusting among them a tad skeptical. Because it's got to be a trick, right? I'd be like, yeah, sure pal, that's a bar of silver - but uh...give me the chocolate. Because:

2. I know exactly what a Hershey bar looks like. I don't need to trust his claim that it's a real bar of chocolate. Whereas:

3. Most people don't know exactly what an authentic silver bar looks like. I sure don't. At least not down to the exact size, shape, and markings. So they'd be trusting some nut's claim that it really is a silver bar.

Still though, it STILL seems unlikely, because, personally speaking, I'd much rather have even a FAKE bar of silver than a bar of chocolate I could get at any convenience store.

Drag Queen Gives Impassioned Speech About Homophobia

VoodooV says...

hahahhahah! that's hilarious that you think I'm attacking you by saying that you're in the closet.

I'm trying to help you. Nothing worse than denying who you are friend.

To give you an example. I don't like sifts of cute pets as I think they just cater to the "aww" factor. So guess what? I don't comment on those sifts...I don't vote on those sifts...I avoid those kinds of sifts. If I don't like something...I avoid it.

You on the other hand, seem to make a point of visiting virtually every sift involving things you hate. Blacks, Atheists, and especially homosexuals. You're on record as saying:

"I'm not afraid of homosexuals unless I'm in a prison where I can't defend myself from being raped by one."

which is really fucking oddball considering 1) how many people think about being in prison unless they've got a guilty conscience and 2) how many "supposedly straight" people think about being raped by homosexuals unless they're completely insecure.

you make a point of following a topic you claim to dislike, so I'm only observing your behavior and saying hrm...that's strange for someone who is always proclaiming how "normal" and how "not-minority" he is..

you doth protest too much sir. It's textbook projection

if you really dislike them so much....go away. It's a win win for all of us

or stay, and eventually be banned because it's only a matter of time before we catch you saying something racist or hateful again.

Seriously...think about your own actions for once instead of obsessing over what strangers do.

I love how the worst thing you can call me is the thing you are trying to defend.

Now where did that racism video go...I had a great point to make there...oh wait, I guess that means I want to secretly be a minority.

Xbox One Kinect Calls Foul on Bad Language

newtboy says...

Well, I suppose that makes some sense for some people. I want my games as FUN as possible...if that means less realism in some ways, that's what I want. I do know I'm an oddball, so I feel lucky that the entire gaming industry isn't going the hyper-realism direction.
As I said, this isn't really an issue for me as I don't use multiplayer or chat much if at all (or play sports games much). If I did, and this is not optional, it would upset me to find out about it after I bought the game and/or system. That's why this video is helpful no matter what you feel about it, it's informative (if only minimally).
It IS an issue for me that XB1 has an always on microphone/camera and an always on internet connection. For someone like me, that's just a door for intrusion with little to no benefit. (I expect to hear about them being hacked by an ex-boyfriend to spy on someone within 6 months.) That's the main reason I prefer PS4 so far, the microphone/camera is optional. I also don't need my game machine to be a full multimedia platform for all my video needs, which seems to be a main 'selling point' for XB1 that's lost on me.
(and I'm not just a PS fanboy, I have a 360 and ps3, but no camera/microphone on either)

Lawdeedaw said:

Because people want them "real" as possible. I am fine with the old games on NES because I don't care. But if you bought the Xbox one well then you obviously need it as close to life to feel complete as possible. His desire, not mine.

Wow, a 10 Megapixel 8x10 non-scanning back!!! That's at once impressive and oddball... but makes a bit of sense when he explains it.

I feel a little bit the same about the impossible project, but as someone who likes film and has an sx-70, I wish them well

Police Video: No Blood, Bruises On George Zimmerman

Porksandwich says...

@NetRunner

You said: I've not heard anything about evidence collected from Martin's body though. Perhaps there's something there that would be able to definitively establish what happened.

And since I don't feel like wading through the quoting embeds and all that to pick everything out...that'll have to do.

The funeral director who handled Trayvon's body after the coroner said that his hands didn't look like he'd been in a fight. Although the funeral director was kind of an oddball, I don't know if I can take that assessment as true.

Although it does cast even more light on there being a lack of an investigation into Zimmerman. Few points stick out in respect to it:

1) Video cops handles him without gloves...I certainly wouldn't touch blood with my bare hands. And he would presumably be covered in blood from the shooting since he was under him when he shot.....right?

2) 911 Recording with "someone" shouting help, the shouting stops as soon as the shot is heard. Why would the shooter stop yelling for help if he'd just been beaten soundly?

3) Voice analysts can't match the shouter's voice with Zimmerman. Not conclusive, but another "questionable" aspect.

4) They never took Zimmerman's clothes as evidence.

5) They let Zimmerman out before they ever knew where all the following had taken place. They didn't walk through the events with Zimmerman until the next day. So they couldn't possibly have done a proper canvas for witnesses.

6) They didn't even know why Trayvon was in the neighborhood until the next day at the earliest when the missing persons report was filed.

7) Zimmerman followed in spite of what common sense would say for a regular person.

So this is where I'm coming from as I look at the case. And until I see some official reason as to why these things were done as they were that doesn't seem to fall under "cover up/incompetence/some other equally despicable thing"...I question.

My hope is that if they can't find a case against Zimmerman due to a evidence being long gone, is that they ask the same questions and bust that PD in a way that they are absolutely held liable for wrong doing with no defense. I just don't see it happening though with one government agency holding another one to the fire like that.

If this were a murder involving someone I knew, I'd be pissed that there is no official release to answer why they did what they did that made sense. So I can only be pissed on behalf of someone else out there who is left not knowing a damn thing and the person who did the killing is out with only spending a few hours answering questions.

I don't think any outcome will be satisfactory now. Too much stuff has gone wrong for anyone to feel that there is a proper outcome to the events of that night and since.

Avery Brooks on Def Poetry Jam

jonny says...

I saw an interview with Avery Brooks in an oddball documentary ("The Captains", about the captains in all of the various Star Trek shows). He is freaking out there, in a Jack Kerouac hipster kind of way.
