Grampall Jookabox - The Girl Ain't Preggers

The American Ruling Class (2005)

Paul Rudd's Computer

Uh... Is it possible that I'm missing something, or am I just foreign dotard?

I just thought it was funny/quirky. I never watched the Tim & Eric show before. Paul Rudd is one of those kooky everyman personality types I wish I could get away with in my own little slice of reality. haha.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the oddball humour, but it has a lot more votes than I would've expected, which made me think it was related to something else.

Zero Punctuation: Bioshock 2

Djevel says...

I barely made it through Bioshock one. The story could not maintain the relationship between plot and waves and waves of bad guys and cheesy puzzles. The only thing that kept me going was that this was the "spiritual successor" to System Shock, of which I never played. I had to see it through to at least experience what I could. Now, some oddball story after the closure of the first tiresome run through? Yeah...not gonna bother.

Kelly's Heroes Oddball - Negative Waves

Drachen_Jager says...

I worked on an animated TV series called, "Heavy Gear", where they lifted the character of Odball whole cloth, called him Zerv but even his "catch phrase" lines were identical to some of the ones Oddball delivered (I actually animated one scene where he says "negative waves").

Kelly's Heroes Oddball - Negative Waves

therealblankman says...

Sutherland's Oddball is exactly that. A complete non-sequitur character in a really great adventure/war/comedy/heist movie set in Vietnam WWII France. When I saw Inglourious Basterds, I thought of this film a lot.

Maddow Gives a History Lesson to the Tea Party

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Would that not then mean that ... Sarah Palin is Constitutionally prohibited from becoming ... President or Vice President of the United States of America?

Well - if you want to play the rhetorical game of strict denotative definitions - then "insurrection" would mean Barak Obama should be tossed out today. An insurrection is simply "resistance against civil authority or an established government", right? As a civil rights activist Obama as resisted the government. The entire Democrat resisted an established government during GWB. The Republicans are doing it right now under Obama. You know what? The more I think about it, the more I like this goofball textpert interpretation. It essentially means that NOBODY is allowed to run for political office. Throw them all out. Good riddance.

The teabagger movement ... was founded by old skool conservative republican, Dick Armey

It would be more accurate to say that Dick Armey supported the already existent Tea Party in the same way Democrats supported the anti-war movement. Under GWB, a grassroots movement got going that was opposed to the way the Iraq war was handled. This true representation of the national mood was aided and abetted by Democrats. Democrats "astroturfed" the bejeezus out of the anti-war movement. It was politically exigent, as well as a philosophical position they agreed with.

Republicans are trying to do the same thing with the Tea Party. The Tea Party is grassroots. It is filled with citizens who hate debt and deficits - who want balanced budgets & fiscal restraint at the federal level. It is Republicans, Independants, and even Democrats for whom sound fiscal policy is a critical issue. But Republicans for years flapped thier lips about fiscal conservatism (even though they don't practice it much). Of course the GOP is going to foster & foment a movement that they politically sympathize with.

The Tea Party movement is about fiscal conservatism. They want balanced budgets, reduced spending, and limited federal power. In that sense they agree with some libertarian principles, but aren't interested in the social policies that make the libertarian party such a collection of oddballs. Neither are they interested in the "Republican party" except as a vehicle to slam the brakes on Obama & Democrats. If the GOP thinks they can just use the Tea Party like a wet-wipe and then go on to be a bunch of fiscal idiots like Bush, then they will find the TP to be an unreliable ally.

Mr. Ballmer, would you sign my mac?

spoco2 says...

I cannot believe that The Age (the 'respectable' one of the Melbourne newspapers) actually labeled this an 'oddball outburst'.

How the hell was this anything other than taking a bit of provocation in his stride and signing his Mac? Bloody hell they'll label anything this man does as 'cooky' or 'zany' these days.

Personally I think this shows a better side of him than most things I've seen of him...

Conan O'Brien Addresses Tonight Show Jay Leno Rumors

HollywoodBob says...

They need to feed them both to the Rancor.

Conan stopped being funny after the move, and Jay was never funny.

They need to let Conan go back to doing his oddball humor, and not force him to dumb down his show to make it suitable for the geezers that used to watch Jay.

And if Jay wants to have a show, let him do something where he'd be genuinely interesting and let him host an American Top Gear.

The 912 Teabagger Assault on Washington

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Hmm - well let's see... The only estimate that I have found online was in the UK telegraph's article that said a million people were at this rally. All other articles say "no official estimate" or "tens of thousands". All I know from the news footage is that Washington DC was packed from the capitol and the crowd went out 17 full city blocks, filling up the entire street and spilling out in a lot of directions. Police reports said they were turning back people by the busload because they were 'already full'...

Now - say what you like - but those kinds of numbers are not attainable if it is nothing but a few isolated kooks. This is a broad swath of the American people which represents a true groundswell against large government.

To me it is similar to the Iraq War protests. Bush's Iraq War was not popular. The American people didn't want it. And so when they held protests, they were able to get tens to hundreds of thousands of people to show up. Why? Well - that's what happens when the MAJORITY of the American people are 'against' what Washington is doing.

It was also VERY easy to pick out kooks, freaks, lunatics, blowhards, and jackhats at the Iraq War protests. That's because the kooks want to look like they are representative of larger crowd (when actually they aren't). People like Cindy Sheehan. However, just because a few kooks have attatched themselves like leeches to a saner majority did not mean that the sentiment against the Iraq war wasn't genuine. Nor did it mean the Iraq protesters were just a bunch of lunatics.

Same thing with the 9/12 protest. Yeah, there are some oddballs in the crowd. But you don't get hundreds of thousands of protestors when it is nothing but kooks and oddballs. Obama and the Democrats ignore these protests at thier own peril - just like Bush. Bush ignored them, and his numbers plummeted because he was swimming against the majority. Obama is ignoring the majority too, and look at his numbers... If Obama wants to be "Bush2" then that's his affair...

Rasch187: Like a rolling crown (Rocknroll Talk Post)

Hilarious Andy Roddick Press Conference

Deano says...

He's seems a bit of an oddball when you hear him talk like this. You wonder how much is suppressed rage and how much is him playing to the gallery.

All power to him though, his press conferences are always good value. Really sorry he lost on Sunday.
