I'm not sure which one you refer to was winking but I think it might be Patti Lupone. My fave was Edith Piaf.

That was awesome!

Anyone got a list of the divas? Quick check on yt didn't help.

Who was the winking diva? Madonna, maybe?

A few I know she didn't do that I'd love to see her attempt:
Dolly Parton
Janis Joplin
Tina Turner

Pandit Ravi Shankar 1920-2012 R.I.P.

Lady Ga Ga before she was famous

I think she really enjoys being Lady Ga Ga, so I doubt she's "sold out". Her creativity and talent thats evident in this video is still in her current music. And I'm glad she didn't turn out to be another Norah Jones

Nice.

In reply to this comment by kronosposeidon:
1. Norah Jones - "Feelin' The Same Way"
2. Van Halen - "Intruder"
3. Sir Edward Elgar - "Enigma Variations for Orchestra, Op. 36 'Nimrod'"
4. Def Leppard - "Don't Shoot Shotgun"
5. Dave Brubeck Quartet - "Kathy's Waltz"
6. Nat King Cole - "Fly Me To The Moon"
7. George Thorogood & The Destroyers - "I Drink Alone"
8. The Donnas - "Is That All You've Got For Me"
9. Yes - "Long Distance Runaround"
10. Pink Floyd - "Signs Of Life"

And I'm not ashamed of a single damn one of them.

This is fun. We should do this once a week. Lindsay Beyerstein used to have a Friday Random Ten for a long time, but discontinued it over a year ago. Too bad. Let's not let it end here.

Personally, I find the vocal affectations so many female singers seem to use to be distracting (eg. Diana Krall, Norah Jones, the singers in this video... and most other popular female vocalist I can think of).

I like someone who just sings a song - hits notes and then holds them, without so much vocal athleticism. As an example: Stacey Kent.

This is very much just a personal taste thing - not any kind of hate or anything - but I encourage people to give Stacey a try.
