TDS 12/10/12 - Mitch McConnell's Self-Filibuster
What makes no sense? The point here is that Mitch McConnell attempted to pass a bullshit, sarcastic bill as an insult to Democrats. By itself, this is a foolish, immature waste of time. But when called to task, he sheepishly backtracked. I was hoping since there is no danger of Obama being re-elected in 2016, then these filibuster games would end and your representatives could go back to work on real bills for the next 4 years. Sadly, the games go on. Hey look, I agree! It makes no sense.
Makes no sense. Just let the taxocrats have their tax increases. Make them OWN the failures they create. The 2016 obama depression is on the way and not even the King's loyal thugmedia will be able to blame Bush then...

Mary Matalin and Van Jones on CNN
All style and no substance. She actually said nothing but pure rhetoric.
Does she think people forget about the debt ceiling deals being rejected over and over until the republicans got basically everything? What about the record amount of philabusters? What about Mitch Maconnel sayin that the #1 priority is to deny a 2nd term?
I agree with 9547bis. What a waste of air time even if it is just CNN.

Tea Party is the American Taliban
The only problem with this is that there aren't any of what he calls "real" Republicans anymore, at least not in the Republican party.
I mean, he correctly counts Mitch McConnell as one of the Tea Party extremists. Given his position in the Republican party, that's pretty much the ball game.

First Person View Of A Lion Encounter
>> ^A10anis:
I'm afraid I cannot see any correlation between driving a car, and climbing into a cage with a lion! A car is an inanimate object. It is not susceptible to whims, or moods, and has not existed for millennia with the sole purpose of tearing living animals apart to feed it's family. Of course they both have risks - putting on your socks has risks. But there are rational risks, and bloody stupid risks. Your example, which compares one as equatable to the other is, frankly, a non-sequitur. As for
Steve Irwin; His death, as any, was tragic. But here was an "expert" who, despite his knowledge, died at the hands of a wild animal. I think that proves my point, there are NO experts.
Although the car is inanimate, it is susceptible to whims and moods -- certainly the whims and moods of other drivers (and yourself), but arguably also the occasional "quirk" in the machinery or state of some parts that can exhibit itself almost like a living thing. Perhaps it was a poor example or non-sequitur (RIP Mitch Heberg), but it makes sense to me anyway.
Maybe there are no "experts" with these wild animals (-- maybe there are no expert drivers?) but the difference between a rational risk and a bloody stupid risk is subjective, and I think that the people that work with these animals for a living (or as their passion) are personally quite comfortable with what they are doing, and believe that the risks they are taking are rational. Even if they know/believe that what they are doing has more risk of injury/death than other jobs/hobbies/activities, they feel that it is worth doing.
We don't have to agree with them. I find things like smoking or bungee jumping to be bloody stupid risks (or more accurately activities with an extremely poor cost-benefit analysis), but to people that do and love those things, my personal difference of opinion with them is of no concern (nor should it be). Life's a messy thing; no matter how much padding or how many safety nets we surround ourselves with our luck will run out eventually. I think that for the dude in this video (and for Steve Irwin), the chance to live their lives loving what they do is worth the risk of dying from it.
Sen. McConnell Assumes Women on board for War on Women
>> ^NetRunner:
That's not really the issue she's taking with him. It's that it's obvious he hasn't actually talked with them about this stuff, hasn't listened to what they had to say and taken it to heart, and then publicly asserts all complaints about what the GOP is doing are null and valid because these specific women are behind him 100%, when...they're not.
This goes way beyond "lying", it's more like dramatic irony. His response to the accusation that the GOP disrespect women actually revealed just how much he does in fact disrespect them. It's one thing for Mitch McConnell to not be exactly in tune with what women in general are saying, but these are coworkers of his that he's referring to by name in a press conference, and it's obvious he hasn't bothered to check whether they actually feel the way he says they do or not.
It'd actually be better if he knew their positions and was lying, but I think he honestly didn't know what he was saying was wrong. After all, if he knew what their publicly stated positions were, would he really tell the press to go ask them how they feel about these issues?

Women shouldn't worry their pretty little heads about it, let Mitch decide what's best.

@ponceleon
Yeah the problem with that is the budget for education keeps getting cut more and more every year.
Take my state for example. Our governor, in all of his wisdom, decided to cut another $300 MILLION dollars from k-12 spending. You know, b/c so many teachers and administrators are driving around Porches.
The reality is that most teachers spend a good hunk of their own money buying supplies. When's the last time the military had to have a bake sale to buy a tank? And speaking of which, did you hear about the equipment they're leaving behind in Iraq?
And you're probably saying "Well times are tough, everyone needs cuts, etc." But at the end of the fiscal year of 2010, after some time to look at the books, Indiana ended up with a $1.2 billion dollar surplus. "OH AWESOME I DON'T HAVE TO BUY MY OWN MARKERS ANYMORE!" -Random Teacher.
Hold on there Random Teacher who thinks he's going to have to stop buying his own supplies. That money did NOT get returned to the social services from which it was cut. Instead, 24,000 state workers got a bonus check with that money to, you know, buy more Xboxes and McDonalds and such.
It's a sad fucking state of affairs and people are not going to start valuing education until we stop idiotic policies like this.
