Radiohead day on the sift? (User Poll by ctrlaltbleach)

Rest in Peace Dio. (Blog Entry by dag)

moodonia says...

I'm very sad to hear about this. Dio was a fantastic vocalist and showman with a long and great career.

I thought I was going to get to see him in a couple of weeks when Heaven and Hell and Iron Maiden played near here.

Hope its okay commenting on your Blog Dag.

A new definition of irony

ledpup says...

It isn't sarcasm (a form of irony) because there isn't any contempt. Definitions really help here.

Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a situation, literary technique, or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance that goes strikingly beyond the most simple and evident meaning of words or actions. Verbal and situational irony is often intentionally used as emphasis in an assertion of a truth. The ironic form of simile, or the irony of sarcasm or litotes may involve the emphasis of one's meaning by deliberate use of language that states the direct opposite of the truth, or drastically and obviously understates a factual connection.

>> ^flechette:

I thought things like saying 'Isn't this nice' while a plane crashes and saying 'What nice weather we're having' while a hurricane rips off the roof is called being sarcastic, and has nothing at all to do with irony.
The 'unsinkable' Titanic sinking on her maiden voyage is ironic. Four U.S. Intelligence services bungling an investigation to the point where they're arresting/shooting each other because they're too hard-headed to share information with each other isn't ironic, it's just dumb. A terrorist suicide bomber getting the wrong address and blowing up a terrorist safe house would be ironic, because not only is it terrible terrorism, it'd still be terroristic.

Kurt Cobain gets beaten up by his own security

maatc says...

Here is what happened according to Kurt:
(found on nirvanafreak.com)

"KURT: "I was in Dallas, I had the flu. A doctor came to my hotel room and gave me unnamed antibiotic shots in the ass. Drunk again, and feeling the results of the antibiotics and heavy booze, I stumbled onstage and played four songs. In the middle of the fourth song, I took my guitar to the monitor board, smashing it to bits as the crowd cheered 'bullshit, bullshit'.

"The bouncer, who was also the owner of the monitor board, didn't appreciate what I'd done. For the next five songs, he paced back and forth, punching me in the ribs. I jumped into the crowd with my guitar. He pretended to save me from the vicious crowd yet he grabbed my hair and punched me in the ribs a few times. I swung the butt end of my guitar into his face. He bled, and proceeded to beat the shit out of me. Once again, I was saved by my Scottish tour manager.

"After the show, Chris and I got into a cab in front of the club, only to be greeted by the bloody bouncer and 10 of his heavy metal vomit friends with Iron Maiden and Sammy Hagar tee-shirts. The bloody bouncer smashed his hand through the side of the cab and choked me senseless. We couldn't move because we were stuck in the traffic. After 20 minutes of cat and mouse, we fled away into the night."

like the cutta yer jib there pard, and I dig yer fuck teh dumshitz attitude when it comes to education-Iread yer run-down of your tenure at Diplomamill University over in the lounge, and I understand your position and frustration...I can't help but feel that a lot of folks here are victims of similar institutionalized heresy and pollution of mind-It gives me hope to find others like me, both disgusted with the apparent shape of things to come and hopeful of an alternative to the systematic numbing and dumbing of the planet's inhabitants. Namaste back, and rock the fuck on. If I see you over on gchat I'll poke ya-

My first concert was in 75', Lynnard Skynnard in Dallas, was the back up band for the headliners, Emerson Lake and Palmer on their Brain Salad Surgery tour...One of the reasons my hearing is less than perfect...that and the electric guitar cranked the fuck up in the garage.

hell yeah.
i do everything backwards though.i bought number of the beast (good album) and was blown away.
so i went to the local head shop (they have those anymore?)and picked up:
iron maiden, killers and maiden japan for like 5 bucks.
number of the beast took to the shelf and killers i played like non-stop for a week.
dickenson did his thing and maiden made some good albums with him, mainly:number of the best, piece of mind and powerslave.
i saw all three concerts but never got to see di'anno and that just bloooooows.
i had a chance to see his solo project in jacksonville but we got called to ship out three days early.
so...i have never seen di'anno perform live.
and my life is less because of it.
that man could belt!
thanks for the upvotes man, always appreciated.
and i have to give ya props on being the best and most imaginative TITLE creator EVAH!
peace brother.

IRON MAIDEN-killers (LIVE with paul di'anno)

choggie says...

^mine too...hands down, and Di'Anno when he left....man-Bruce dickheadson pales in comparison.....Paul had wayyy more grind n' soul, Bruce simply screams like a girl and wrote epic mounds of tripe...Paul had the blues all up in him

excellent post, enoch, my all time fav Maiden song...I used to perform the whole album in the garage, just me and my drummer pal in the 10th grade.
