Not getting a "Young Theron as Furiosa" vibe in Taylor-Joy. But I like most of her projects. And she can act, so looking forward to this. One of my handful of anticipated films in 2024. The other is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

This was not an attempted “life lesson”, it was an angry punishment that teaches the kid it’s ok to physically abuse those that can’t defend themselves.
The lesson that may be learned is if you can act the fool enough to make an employee lose their cool and get violent, you can cash in big time.

He was in no was showing respect. He was smacking a kid that made him mad. That’s the lesson he taught, resorting to violence is acceptable if you’re mad. A horrible life lesson that usually leads to prison.

It may be understandable, even cathartic, but it’s also wrong.

I'm sure they get a small amount of training for situations like this, probably as much as the city will spend.

The point is, even with that training, there are no good options. If he shoots the black guy, he is simply the latest racist pig murdering 'innocent' people of color.

If he stands there and tries to talk the guy down, a vest doesn't cover your entire body. You can bleed to death from arm or leg shots, plus at that range the head is not a hard to hit target.

Maybe he isn't fit to be a cop. But the point is that because we haven't figured out a way to stop cops from kneeling on someone until they suffocate or shooting people in the back, all cops now have to make a split second decision on whether they can act as they were trained to do or act as protesters, the government, and the media want them to do.

We also judge them on what we think we would do, even though I doubt we will ever be in a similar situation.

Hey, did you hear a Detective from Springfield Mass got fired within days of posting an offensive Black Lives Matter post?

That's right, it was a photo of her nice at a BLM protest holding a sign saying, “Who do we call when the murderer wear the badge.” and some of her colleagues found that offensive enough they had to fire her.

So apparently they can act when their snowflakes are in danger of melting, just not, you know when they murder innocent people, frame innocent people, steal from innocent people and criminals, lie about incidents, doxx those who disagree with them then shrug it off when the doxxed person's neighbor is brutally raped apparently as a direct result of the doxxing (idiot got the wrong apartment number, police later said it was no big deal because the woman only suffered minor injuries (she was bruised head to toe, and raped, but no broken bones, so it's all good, right?) and the city counselor the cop doxxed could have been found through other means).

It's not a question of what to do "if" the criminal wears a badge. The criminals wear badges. The question is what can be done to stop them.

Level up for you! I never knew that about you. If you've mentioned it in the past, I missed it. You should speak about that more often. It gives more answers about how to not be a racist rather than convincing someone they are.

I already donate regularly to my local children's hospital, give any spare change I have to people you describe, and work at an inner city school where I keep boxes of cereal (it's cheap and vitamin packed and the kids like it) because my students come up to me on a somewhat regular basis hungry.

But as an individual, it's easy to act alone. To combat what one considers bad-public-policy, one must join the conversation.

What are you really asking me to do here? Someone posts some racist memes and I'm to keep my mouth shut because it won't do anything. I do not agree.

I can act alone, but to change policy it starts by having conversations about perceived ills in society. Forgive me but keep your stoic silence to yourself and I'll keep talking if the spirit moves me.

My main point is not that the genie could only be played by Robin Williams, but that Will Smith is a terrible fit for this role. Will Smith can act if he is forced to by the director, Ali proved that. But if you just hire him because you wanted a comedian to play a role, you are going to get Will Smith acting as Will Smith.

That can work sometimes, IE MIB, but in other roles it is going to distract the audience from the scenes the actor is in (Suicide Squad).

There we many other actors that could have slid into this part and done it better. I'll wait for the movie, but I suspect that Smith is going to ruin the character for me.

The extreme right IS growing it's base off the people the extreme left are alienating. It is NOT enough for the left to just hope to similarly grow it's base by those alienated by the extreme right. That didn't work so well for Hillary. "Growing it's base" is code for gaining power and support, aka more people that can act and vote. The Dems need to do more to draw in extra voters, the current trend of doubling down harder in condemnation of anyone that didn't vote Hillary is exactly the opposite of what they need to be doing. That's chasing away voters that need to be won over. Go back to those same voters with some of the olive branches I mentioned, or come up with some others, but at least make a blasted effort to grow your base out too or else your shrinking your own base while the right extremists are growing...

Vin Diesel is like the movie version of chicken. He can act as anyone.

But humans are not animals. You can act out of your own free will and not merely on instict. That is why you have a conscience (even if you ignore or avoid acknowledging it) and the lions don't.
