Only in first world countries do people enjoy the luxury of struggling with the stupid moral dilemma of loving animals more than people. The 40+ billion spent every year, in this country alone, on sparky and captain whiskers could feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

Of course you could apply that same logic to almost anything, yes if we all stopped spending money on -Fill in unnecessary expense here- then that problem would be solved, sounds simple enough but in practice it gets more complicated.

only in first world countries do people worry about paying for cable television. all that money could feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

only in first world countries do people worry about buying more than one set of clothing to wear from day to day. all that money could feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

only in first world countries do people worry about spending time commenting on internet videos. that time could be spend raising money to feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

You should move to China. Have yourself some captain whiskers lo mein. It's a tragic world view that suggests humans should abandon compassion for survival.

Black Mexican dancing to Techno

emotion in animals continued (Pets Talk Post)

blankfist says...

Yeah, I thought it was a foregone conclusion animals experienced emotions. Part of the master/animal relationship is based on fear and reward. But, certainly, just because you experience emotions doesn't mean you have a grasp of reason, and certainly I wouldn't confuse instinctual intuition with reason.

I've heard from many animal lovers that dogs or cats are just as smart as us if not smarter. If this were so, my cat would've packed his Meow Mix and set off on his own years ago. He would've learned to build a complex structure for him to live. Et cetera. Et Cetera.

I do love animals. They are sweet, empathetic, wonderful creatures, and also none too bright.

Cap Pas Cap - We Are Men

Man detained while his dog dies, freakout ensues

solvent says...

Ladies and Gents,

I will maintain a civilized tone through my post but: The police officer may not have been too professional but he had a point. Speeding kills. Average Joe cannot drive fast safely. Specially at night, especially under stress. So if you drive fast, under stress, at night you will most likely make a mistake. A mistake which can result in property damage, injury or DEATH. So while I respect animals (I'm a vegetarian) I simply cannot believe how fast your are to pass a judgment. Do you know why the man's dog was dying, do you think he may have been responsible for it? Was he a vet so that he can tell that the death of his dog was imminent and what if the dog dies on the way to the hospital prior to him crashing into another car??? These are just a few questions we must ask.

Another angle is that police officers took an oath to protect us (humans).

And hey how about you say you love animals yet you walk by animal shelters without adopting those adorable puppies and kittens. They will be put down soon. So why don't you just think a but more before you judge.

The driver should have been arrested, charged and put before the court to explain his actions just to see what the judge have to say about that. Police have to protect the community from drivers like this man.

^agreed. I told my husband something like this once after he mentioned taking up hunting.

I said, "Sure, bring meat to the table! BUT no high powered rifles and covered perches where you sit and wait for Bambi to come feast on bait down below... You must RUN!..barefoot w/ only a spear in your hand to dispatch your prey!!!"

He was amused, went out and bought a camo outfit...it's sat in the closet now for about 4 years unworn.

Seriously though, I love animals and personally I think it's sick to take pleasure from taking the life of one. But I'm no hypocrite either. I eat beef, chicken, pork and seafood all the time.

There is such a thing as ethical hunting. This video is not an example of that.

The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

moodonia says...

Well I dont know if anyone knows or cares to know anything about me but here goes.

I'm mike, a 31 year old computer tech from Ireland. Consider myself fairly well traveled, lived in a few different countries, I think everyone should do that and we would have a nicer more peaceful world!

Been called an eternal student, not entirely justified, I started out doing Marine technology (thought I might get into fish farming...yes I was smoking a lot at the time!) but that lead into computer aided design for a couple of years, which lead to networks and support. So I ended up working for Microsoft in tech support, now I'm building and repairing point of sale systems, so next time your at a checkout spare a thought for the guy who has to make and repair those things

I'm a former stoner, lightweight drinker, my loves are cycling, snorkelling and gaming. I used to combine the smoking and snorkelling , it was very EIA but fun too, if a little creepy

I love animals (not that way) but I cant bear to bury anymore of them so I havent replaced any of the dogs and cats that passed in the last couple of years. When they are knocking around for 20 years and then go it "kicks my ass" as my american friends say.

I like this place because the people are cool and some of them should be writing for a living. I hope to start an I.T. Degree part time later in the year, after that I'd like to get into Astronomy. Aim for the stars right??
