Mean Little Dog From The Shelter Just Needed A Hug

Damnit. Now I want a dog. Curse you internet.
rougysays...

Breaks my heart, but a beautiful ending.

I don't know how dogs know it, but when they get old and it comes time to take them to the vet that one last time, somehow or another they know what it's for.

mxxconsays...

that video is a bit misleading.
just because this dog accepted these 2 people doesn't mean it's cured.
it will still literally get scared shitless when other stranger walk by or bikes or cars or thunder.
skittish/insecure dogs take very long time to turn around.
they definitely should be evaluated and given a chance, but it's never as simple as "Just Needed A Hug".

Was it really necessary to leash it right away?

My thoughts exactly. I know the new owners meant well, but why on earth would you back an already-scared animal into a corner and then proceed to scare the ever loving shit out of it with the leash. There should be an exam for pet ownership.

conansays...

Now why would anyone who pretends to know something about dogs corner a frightened dog, approach it with at least 2 people right away and immediatly confront it with a leash and the latter in such way? no wonder.

Only in first world countries do people enjoy the luxury of struggling with the stupid moral dilemma of loving animals more than people. The 40+ billion spent every year, in this country alone, on sparky and captain whiskers could feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

Incidentally, I think a lot of people should be put to sleep.

You should move to China. Have yourself some captain whiskers lo mein. It's a tragic world view that suggests humans should abandon compassion for survival.

Of course you could apply that same logic to almost anything, yes if we all stopped spending money on -Fill in unnecessary expense here- then that problem would be solved, sounds simple enough but in practice it gets more complicated.

<sigh> i hate to be the negative guy but... really? gooey over this? some people are so water soluble.
Lets have some just sightly higher standards eh?

1) The music sucks, didn't need it, just show the video

2) You want to film something? anything? don't hold the camera yourself. It will always look like crap. And it annoys the hell out of me. It's not like you were unprepared for taking the video - You had two cameras. You're just an idiot.

3) You apparently have no idea how to handle a dog at all. Yeah approach a human phobic dog with a leash and back it into the corner. You scare it so badly it defecates - then you want credit for giving it a hug afterwards?
You scared it. It was you! Dogs are social creatures, accepting a leash is an act of trust and a restriction of freedom. If you'd had a shit life and some idiot backed you into a corner trying to tie you up you would freak out too!
You don't think you should have started with building a positive bond first before diving into restraints?

only in first world countries do people worry about buying pets AT ALL. all that money could feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

only in first world countries do people worry about paying for cable television. all that money could feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

only in first world countries do people worry about buying more than one set of clothing to wear from day to day. all that money could feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

only in first world countries do people worry about spending time commenting on internet videos. that time could be spend raising money to feed, clothe, and rehabilitate an awful lot of people.

thanks for politicizing a video meant to be cute. asshole.

GoodAttorneysays...

Take it easy. I just made a point, that I'm now sorry to have shared with you all. Now I'm a troll and an asshole that should move to China?

I guess the abuse guidelines apply only to me because I agree that the music makes one hurl (Opus), that the video is manipulative (Joedirt), that contrary to what Overcast believes, people shouldn't be put to sleep and humanitarianism only applies to humans. I'm sorry for politicizing this video; I just wanted to make a point, as I said earlier. Now understanding what I'm up against, let the down votes begin.

... humanitarianism only applies to humans ...

This human centric attitude is why I have an issue with your post. You seem oblivious to the fact that certain animals share a bond with humanity and have throughout history played a role in human survival. These creatures have placed their trust in us. Dogs specifically have earned our trust, admiration and compassion .. and continue to save human lives every single day, often throwing themselves into personal risk and death, in order to save us. Denying our obligations to them is not a "stupid moral dilemma". It's inhuman.

Out of the office: Banned to China. Don't leave a message.

I think it was for the safety of the people in the room/house and for the sake of being able to restrain it during the grooming. With an animal that's so clearly been abused there's always a chance it'll get violent and with the leash on that can be dealt with a lot easier and with less injury to dog and person. What would you have done differently? I probably would have waited a while for her to become more accustomed to her surroundings but I definitely would have put a leash on her before taking her out of that room.>> ^papple:

Dogs can tell when you're upset. Especially after years of living with you. They aren't knowing why they are going to the vet, they just are reacting to your emotions.
