Romain Grosjean has been given a one race suspension for causing the first-lap collision at the Belgian Grand Prix, and also imposed a €50,000 fine.
I personally don't get what a penalty like that is supposed to accomplish, you mean next time when he's wheel to wheel with someone he should just yield the position without trying?
I mean, he fucked up, but this kind of crap happens all the time further back in the line, and people don't get suspended from the next race for it. I guess the standard now is if you knock out a star like Alonso or Hamilton you face a much stiffer penalty than if you knock out Timo Glock or Heikki Kovalienen.
I guess it's a much bigger safety risk if you endanger the FIA's bottom line than it is if you endanger someone's life by being stupid...
Agreed.. unless you have a rich father to payoff official for penalties like Pastor Maldanado. He failed to slow down at the scene of an accident at Monaco in GP2, despite the presence of warning flags, and struck and seriously injured a marshal. He was banned from the sport, until his father stepped in and payed large sums of money.
He continues to be a reckless drive (not aggressive, reckless) and will injure someone in F1, with the likes of his multiple incidents he's had this season. Give someone like him fines means nothing.
He should not have a super licence.

I wonder if they'll pre-empt a possible decapitation and start fitting a wide rollbar over the heads of the drivers? Don't know how structurally strong that would be but something similar perhaps?
Yeah they've been testing designs like fighter pilot style shield/bubble, over the top of the drivers cockpit:

In terms of safety it would bring some benefits, because the driver would be protected but what happens when you have to rescue the drivers?
F1 Belgium Grand Prix: First Crash on Corner
They've talked about it, and the FIA has done some tests, but there are down-sides to all their current proposals and nothing is likely to happen soon.

First rule of racing: NEVER STOP!
You always obey the flags that the marshals hold out, as they are under race control so will know about everything that is happening, not just in the 6 feet of tarmac you are on. Should you stop, you become a target for the next guy leaping through the wall of fire. Now you have two accidents...
There is no flag to stop competitors either. A red flag means that the *race* has been stopped, but that doesn't mean that you actually stop riding. You reduce your speed and await further instructions, being prepared to stop on the circuit *if* directed to do so. Marshals are posted within sighting distance of each other, so someone would have seen it and been able to deal with it.
Ultimately, this guy was through so quickly that even trying to stop would have covered a big distance (at 150mph+) so going back to help wouldn't have made much difference. As a rider you're probably not trained in first aid either, so it's best left to the professionals. On my first race out I couldn't even keep count of the number of laps I had done as I was concentrating so hard on riding as fast as possible!
Personally I'm surprised he slowed down as much as he did...

That's cool...but why doesn't he stop?! At least to tell some of the orange jackets that there's been a horrible crash!

Tom Cruise test drives a Red Bull F1 Car
He reached a top speed of 181 mph (291 km/h) - just 4 mph off the top speed of his instructor and 13-time Grand Prix winner, David Coulthard'
Now what? Is that supposed to impress me? What a useless fact. So he went 180mph on a long straight. Provide lap times in comparison, that would be someting like 1:00min (Pro) vs. 2:00min (Tom Thetan Cruise). Also i don't think they're doing themselves a favor in promoting F1 if they create the impression anyone could drive a F1 car.
Marshall Double Fail at Canadian Grand Prix
>> ^robbersdog49:
This really, really was the GP with everything, even light relief! The marshal running to Vettel's car when he crashed in FP1 stacked it pretty good too )
First good f1 race of this season , despite that just about every FIA desisoin was retarded , and DRS gave button and Weber a free pass on michael schumacher.
Start under safty car , Keep safty car out for so long that drivers dont evan need to use wet tires , 2 DRS pionts when evan the 1 DRS gave a driver in a competative car a free pass.
F1: Sergio Perez's crash at 270km/h during Monaco qualifying
"Saturday's qualifying session for Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix was overshadowed by a serious crash involving the Sauber driver Sergio Pérez."
Bullshit it wasent overshadowed , and it wasent a serious crash.
F1 has been a compleat joke for about 5 years now might as well not bother with racing should just get the public to sit in a room and project advertising at them would be far more eficent.
Until F1 is less about Airo and they make the tires harder and less grippy so the drivers have more of an effect on performance and race result the sport is going to remain shit.
