I'm no fan of atheism+ and that in spite of the fact that I do support most of their claimed causes. Rather than a double post I'll reply to the statement by VoodooV above here as well. VoodooV says...

I'm not subscribed to anyone directly involved in the fights so don't really have a horse in the race and haven't followed every detail. But in a nutshell... many months back at a conference a woman in an elevator was made uncomfortable by a man, man turned out to be Richard Dawkins. People took sides and much drama ensued.

Freethought blogs took on Thunderf00t as a writer and he expressed opinions which pissed off some of the others at the blog. More people took sides, more drama ensued and Thunderf00t was asked to leave.

And in the middle of this those who took the more (to them at least) 'feminist' view decided to start a new group, atheist+, even they seem to admit these days that the launch of the idea was ham handed and more confrontational than it needed to be and according to them it's all just a misunderstanding. According to their critics it's understood just fine, the critics just don't agree. Yet more people took sides and yet more drama ensued. And here we are.

My favorite comment on the whole mess was probably a post by TheMudbrooker at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLMy6zBft4s Can't say that I agree with every word of it but the end at least seems on point for my view. If they need a group to tell them what to do, a social structure, go back to church where they belong and leave the rest of us alone. It's hard enough as it is to get people to understand that atheist mean "not theist" and nothing more without these people confusing the issue. Regardless of any other opinions anyone might have about them for other reasons. I don't approve of mixing religion and politics and it's no more defensible to mix a lack of religion with politics. Separate debates even if they are both worthy on their own merits. It's not helpful.

Boondocks said "nigger, nigga, n-word" more than Django Unchained does and did so in every episode, so what's the fuss? Critics love to hate, fuck the dumbshitz. Love me some Boondocks.

I must concur with the spider not playing a pivotal role in the bio-train. If this project were halted by otters, snakes, owls, mice or beavers I could understand the fuss....Hell, even fleas or mosquito threatened would be cause for major alarm but a rare species of fucking arachnid?? Stomp that squishy, worry about the karma later, and build the fucking bypass!

You should try it and you'll quickly see why it's a problem. Browse to a channel that sounds like it might be interesting and see how many videos would actually scratch that itch. Results will vary wildly depending on what you choose.

If drugs are your topic of choice, you may find yourself watching teletubbies today.

If human sexuality intrigues you, prepare to watch 2 cats have sex while a third dry humps them.

Does the far east fascinate you? You'll be sorting through every video that contains an Asian person. It could be a video of some guy who's lived in San Diego his entire life watching an NFL game, drinking a Budweiser, and eating a hot dog but if he's got an epicanthus, he's going in #asia.

Lots of people (most, if I had to guess) just don't care. But then why are we spending all this time cataloging videos if nobody gives a shit?

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. Let's either make a good effort to make channels valuable, or get rid of them altogether and just do this because it will be way less work.

So what are the problems with a poorly-moderated channel?
- Incorrect channel assignments; Anyone Silver or above can correct those if it's egregious, and if no one Silver or above cares about a particular video's channel assignment, then is it really a problem? Is there any real benefit to "abusing" the channel assignments?
- Lack of content in the channel? Again, if there aren't enough users posting or tagging videos for a particular channel, perhaps it's not a big problem if the channel is quiet.

Are we irritated with how many checkboxes there are to sort through when posting?
Are we frustrated with the channel limit?

in general I would agree that the vast majority of the time those warranties are bullshit.

But it did pay off for me with some klipsch speakers I bought a long time ago. just before the 3 years were up, they fizzled out. took them into the store with the warranty, got a free set of brand new model speakers no muss no fuss.

You're already bringing a cooler of ice to cool it down, bring an even bigger cooler..put cans on bottom, cover in ice. Don't have to fuss with batteries or have batteries sitting in your cooler and potentially leaking on things you're going to be putting to your mouth later.

You're taking minutes per can with this thing, or you could do a whole bunch of cans in a cooler in 10 minutes and 30 minutes later have lots of cold drinks and the ability to put more in. Amazing.
