How Does Kodak Make Film? (Kodak Factory Tour)

StukaFox says...

I used to use Kodak TP-2415 for astrophotrography, and it's the most insanely fincky film I've ever used, with one exception: Fuji made FF slide film for the same purpose that were ISO 10,000. The stuff was so reactive to ANY heat that it came delivered on dry ice and you had to slam the slide into the back of the camera as absolutely fast as you could. The darkroom processing on those slides was best done by someone who dealt with nothing but Fuji -- and not just Velvia.

If you've only shot 400 - 800 35mm, MF and FF is a world you cannot imagine.

Excellent video!

Have had much experience with Kodak films. B/W film of which I had much time in the darkroom processing the film and then making prints. I also had the chance to work with an Award winning Press Photographer.

One question I had for him was, how does he process his film to get such clear, sharp negatives? My prints would sometimes look grainy or flat. His answer was just 5 words that made me feel like an idiot.

"I just follow the instructions" he said without being insulting.

He told me that Kodak spends millions of dollars to come up with the processing instructions so, "why should I do anything different?"

That's when it hit me. I'm processing film, not mixing drinks.

Denny - Concept Uban Utility Bike

Denny - Concept Uban Utility Bike

Yogi says...

I tried to find the price and found this.

"The price is actually undetermined—Fuji, our manufacturing partner will make that call once the final bike is chosen. The cost of the prototype is unfortunately no help for an estimation given every part is custom made—at this point it’s a stunning piece of art. Mass production will knock into the reality of MSRP."

Soo 4 grand.

Some interesting concepts there. Wonder how much it would cost?

I was all shitfaced-hammered-that's 2 count-em 2, empty bottles of Bulliet Bourbon on the floor next to me (no excuse for prowess or the lack thereof on the instrument) and I was using the internal features of a Fuji finepix S1000 cheapo digicam for the recording...ambient light, wasn't shooting for perfection-My only goal was to make it through the verses with my voice as damaged as it is....Open tuned to D, this tune was originally recorded by James Arnold, who had a singular left-handed slide style yet unmatched after over 80 years, I can't even begin to approach his level of panachy on the axe-Thanks for the props

I'm begining to think I missed a line in the videosifts terms of agreement that says "must be able to play an instrument".

Good for you Ching! You do need better recording equipment though....but I'm just being a dick....good for you for doing something you love.

How Sifter CHINGALERA Treats His Toys!!!

chingalera says...

SO the set-up for this one take was

1 Col. George Taylor POA Heston doll (Snapped on E-Bay when Heston died, new -in-box)
1-paper cut-out Statue of Liberty lower, left frame)
2-Estes D rockets, duct-taped to back
1-scavenged fuse from leftover Chinese sky-candy
1-Micro-cassette recording of National Anthem (Foley)
1 FUJI Finepix F1000

The tree-bounce-around is off-camera....only one recording of that so here it is: As soon as he leaves frame he's in the tree and barley freed himself of the tangled bounce in the top before ditching in the pond at full throttle-Had he made air he had about 40 feet up inna swirl before thrust would have pooped-out.

...done this before so any way it could have gone might have-

At the end he stands up, sees a broken plastic model of the statue of liberty and realizes, my god, this is Earth.

Mid-Air Collision of RC Plane and RC Helicopter

My_design says...

This is why you fly with a spotter. This is also why most fields have different areas for Heli's and Airplanes. Watching it I actually think this is the airplane pilots fault. He's calling low pass, but he knows there is a helicopter on the field. Calling low pass doesn't mean that you automatically get to come roaring down the center line. Especially if there is a helicopter, which doesn't and can not clear the runway like an airplane. The heli has just as much right to the airspace as the airplane. And that whirly bird is closer to $500 and the plane is about $2000 with the gear in it. Most likely most of the gear survived (Too bad he hit pavement), Fuji's are built like bricks.

The Fuji "Chip Shooter" populates circuit boards in style

It's like a chipjet printer... I suppose it all still needs to be soldered though?

Not sure, the tech manual mentions that solder paste is a consumable but doesn't mention specifically about soldering. The board might also pass over a wave solder tank further along the line.

It uses a solder paste that's basically screen printed (0:08 in the video) on the board before the components are placed.
The larger integrated chips seem to be mounted at the next machine (they require a different robot arm to do this) but at the end of the line it goes in a linear oven to melt the solder, couldn't be simpler.

Any large components are soldered after this in a wave solder tank or manually by hand.
