Texts from Russian soldier to mother before he was killed

Envoy

xxovercastxx says...

I actually found District 9 to be nearly unbearable. They had so much to work with given the setting and undertones and they made a corny action movie with a cliched love story stuffed in.

Envoy here, is at least up front about its intentions. Nobody is going to be surprised or disappointed when it turns into ET with fancy CGI violence.

No. Joburg and the followup film were quality filmmaking.
This is terrible, wholely uninspired work that would only be good in a universe where Spielberg didn't exist. I have no idea how anyone can slog through the cliche enough to find any entertainment.

A Deaf Woman Who Can Finally Hear Meets Ellen

29 years old and hearing myself for the 1st time!

Before the true answer is given, can I guess that it's from deaf people?

There are a whole subset of deaf people who think that it is the way they should be and to try to alter that is a horrible thing and admitting that deafness is a bad thing. They really do have huge issues against people who don't like being deaf.

I could be wrong, but it's happened before.

I wonder the same thing, I looked @ the youtube comments saw that a lot of people think the video is a fake for some reason?

Idiots.

Right now the video has "35,723 likes, 464 dislikes"

And I could see MAYBE casually saying that on the internet but writing hate mail takes it to a new level of assholishness.

Who in hell would send her hate mail? It's not a rhetorical question, I truly cannot see what there would be to hate about.

From the YT comments: “I had an implant put in 8 weeks ago called The Esteem Implant by Envoy Medical. I was born deaf and have worn hearing aids from the age of 2, but hearing aids only help so much. I have gotten by this long in life by reading lips. This was taken as they were activating the implant.”

Ron Paul: WL revealed US govt approval of Kuwait invasion

radx says...

First of all, this clip is rather old. The document was published by WikiLeaks 2011-01-01 21:09 and this speech by Ron Paul was just a few days later. Interestingly, the cable is now marked as released 2011-08-30 01:44.

However, the document itself has been around considerable longer as well. The WP had a piece on it in April '08, titled Ex-Envoy Details Hussein Meeting. And it had been declassified even earlier -- possibly as early as '98, through Executive Order 12958.

Paul refers to the last paragraph of section 30, among others.

Besides the 'muslim' points, I actually understand where they're coming from. Fundamentally, we have to admit Obama is a weak person. I could get into it ranging from his poker buddies who say he can't show strength (folding most of the time) to his weakness during the healthcare debate (about the public option).

Americans at a core like strong presidents, even if they disagree with them, they'll shut up and let the 'commander in chief' do his thing. Bush was a great example, he was strong and people followed him. I think these caucus voters hit the nail on the head when they say there's no policy or direction (no one seems to be in charge, there's no clear vision about supporting the democratic aspirations of egyptians vs mubarak, they disowned the special envoy's comments). And that's because fundamentally there is no policy (there are empty words, however) and the actual policy is to try to please the (washington) establishment. Even though the comments about Chamberlain are obviously being said for other reasons (OMG, he's hitler, etc.), they are in a sense correct about his unwillingness to have a conflict, even if it just a verbal conflict, in order to stand up for progressive values.
