btw dag, my kids just saw your avatar and asked if dr. who regenerated again. ummm.... >> ^dag:

I'm loving Netflix as a source of good movies that didn't get a chance at the Cineplex though. Watched this the other night -it was great.>> ^peggedbea:
one of the young women i work with has the most horrific taste in movies and a netflix account.
a good way to get her to do her lower extremity stretches without a fuss is just to let her watch a movie during them.
i have seen the worst movies ever as a result.
1. home alone 3
2. ski patrol
3. soccer mom
4. father of the bride 2
etc, etc, etc
i would beg her to watch highlander II.

I pick the reddest ones, but #4 was special to me for the reasons you said, very well put!
>> ^kronosposeidon:

Number six is also very nice, but I think #4 is my fave. It gives us the closest look at her face, with all the wonderful details. Also, its sparsity of red when compared to the others makes it unique. To me the chartreuse background and coppery brown flowers give it a feeling of autumn. Maybe that's why the petals are falling. >> ^Fusionaut:
4 and 5 are my favourite too oh and 6 as well >> ^kronosposeidon:
I have to say that despite the semi-Gothic/Fride-of-Franksenstein vibe I'm getting from these images, you still don't have to look hard at all to see the beauty of the woman beneath the paint. Pics #4 and #5 probably show it the best.
I probably shouldn't say 'semi-Gothic' or 'Bride of Frankenstein', because not only are they crude approximations, but also because I believe that when you try to pigeonhole any type of art you're diminishing it a little. Let's just say that when it comes to do my Danse Macabre, I hope she'll be there to take my hand.

Oooooh yeah, since I think the perspective they present is a good one to have at hand..

The theme of the book is about how incentives we create or are placed under have unintended consequences on behavior.

Also, that the solution to the unforeseen problem that your incentives inevitably create is usually something unexpected.

For example..
In the rural parts of India, they still practice the tradition of bride burning and female infanticide.

The government attempted to amend this brutal behavior by starting a "Don't horribly abuse women" campaign with pamphlets and everything.
Sadly, this did nothing to decrease the occurrence of such abuse.

Coincidentally, when an outside organization introduced color television to a few rural villages.. the occurrence of abuse against women dropped dramatically.

So if you want terrible atrocities in far parts of the globe to stop, you should try both empowering people them with soap operas and sedating them with cricket matches apparently.
