The Gamestop Short Squeeze in 4 Minutes

StukaFox says...

You utter fuckwit.

(not you, Morhaus, the dude in the video).

What exactly do you think happens to the people and funds holding those shorts? They have to pay the difference. They are contractually obligated to pay up -- period.

Everyone involved in the short was probably broke long before GME even hit $50. But, as we all learned from Goodfellas, "Fuck you, pay me!"

They're broke and on the hook for shit-tons of money. Guess where they're going to get that money? By selling solid assets. They're gonna dump everything they have to make up for the short loss. Who's holding the shares that're about to start tanking? The funds 401ks are invested in because they have to hold solid, reliable assets. The same funds people are relying on for their futures. These are the people who'll REALLY get fucked by this. If you've got a long enough timeline, hopefully, you'll get your money back (although at a loss of compounded value). If you're 65 and looking at your golden years through a lens of 20%+ returns, you're about to find out what happens when an irrational market decides to return to sanity.

Those are the first order effects. The second order effects range from the merely worrying to the outright fucking terrifying. There's a reason Goldman sent out its little missive last night after Mark Cuban pulled his stunt. This isn't just playing with fire, this is sitting in a room full of gasoline while Skippy, The Face-Ripper Ape On Meth, goes berserk with a blowtorch. God help us if this triggers some latent long-tail event.

The good news is that the idiocy of the crowds has apparently decided to dump GME in favor of silver. GME tanking will be bad, but mostly to people who should pay the price for dabbling magic they didn't understand. GME dumping will be good if you're worried about 2008 repeating itself, only without the whole "not letting AIG" fail thing.

People do not understand how fragile and insanely-interconnected the markets are, and how easily the whole goddamn thing could be brought down. We never solved the problems of 2008, we just dumped money on them; we never solved the underlying issues that lead to the Temper Tantrum of December 2018; and we sure the fuck didn't fix the fundamental issue that almost brought the whole show down on September 17 of 2019. And all this was before Covid. There's a reason I went all-in on bonds back in August and that Warren Buffet is sitting on a mountain of cash, and this is pretty much it.

So yeah, congrats to the little guy and all that shit, but don't think for a second that people at the top are going to be the ones who pay.

VLDL: Overwhelming video game tutorials - Combat Tips

Combat Tip: Or just smash LMB repeatedly while cursing up a storm to enter berserker mode. Which oddly enough works in most games, unless it's a Dark Souls game in which case you're dead, again.

Feet To The Fire!

You realize her tone and aggression are a response to administration officials refusing to answer questions with life or death consequences, refusing to commit to following the law or using the power of their office to do anything helpful, or to commit to anything, right?
When it's your job to serve the nation and citizens by getting answers and commitments that have life or death consequences for thousands and what you get is red herrings, non sequiturs, and feigned ignorance, an aggressive tone is the only appropriate tone.

When the administration and it's allies in congress's only tone is venomous vitriol and berserker rage for anything non Trumpian and self congratulatory kudos over their own failures, an aggressive tone is the only proper response. Those healthcare bureaucrats likely do agree with her, but know that doing so in public will bring the wrath of the infant in chief and his lackeys. Only forcing them to admit their obligations and make public commitments gets anywhere, as she proved here.

Do not mess with a parent - here is why

newtboy says...

Unfortunately, I can't give the father that much credit, because I've seen many a parent, frazzled by their children or work or driving, have completely inappropriate violent reactions to innocent behavior. I've seen it from my own father, and many others.
That said, to me it's totally possible, even likely that Comicbookguy was being a dangerous dickhead driver...just uncertain.

What is certain is that Angrydad's reaction was completely inappropriate. He 1.left his child alone in a car in traffic 2. started an angry confrontation with his child present and 3. reacted with violence when not acknowledged in the way he wished. Not one of those things is good parenting, and put together it's actually actionable.

I have seen 'professionals' say that the less reply you give an angry/road raging person accosting you in your car, the better. I do understand your point though, that it would make one more angry to feel they are being ignored when they are insistent on being heard.

I don't think it's such a leap to think Angrydad might have gone berserk over nothing in the first place. He went completely berserk over being dismissed, why not go partially berserk over not being allowed to merge? (one of the things that had my father go berserk and actually ram another car over that tiny slight) He smashed the window over being disrespected, not over his child being in danger, so to me it could easily be the initial reason he got out of the car, that he felt disrespected (could be, not is).
Comicbookguy's attitude could be seen as smarmy and provocative, or could be following the often given direction to minimize conversation or reaction as much as possible and continue filming, advice I've seen many a time when 'professionals' discussed how to handle road rage. I'm just not ready to go either way for certain on Comicbookguy without seeing the driving issue that started it and/or knowing what kind of guy he is, but I am certain Angrydad's behavior went WAY too far, provoked or not.

In short, I don't disagree that you may be 100% right about Comicbookguy being the legitimate cause or even deserving of what he got, I just can't say for certain either way based on this scant evidence, but I can be certain that dad was in the wrong, understandable or not. If someone being an asshole is reason to be an asshole one's self, we're going to be knee deep in assholes soon! ;-)

Just to reply to this one statement, he only starts out as a raving father and only turned into a violent asshole when the asshole with the camera was dismissive, arrogant, and flippant, taunting him into responding with more than words.

I think it's obvious the father probably had a valid reason to be upset with the camera guy. It's just too big a leap to think a guy would go that berserk over casual bad driving, and camera guy's attitude proves he was probably getting a kick out of causing road rage but was too pussy to back up his cowardly bullshit any more than it took him to barely roll down the window.

Automated Never Ending War - Fortress

How to wield a longsword

Chairman_woo says...

I agree. Normal/medium sized two handers seem to pretty much all be designed to allow you greater control rather than to add power (an axe or mace is always going to be better for that).

Wieldyness is much more important for them than power. As Lindy himself mentions in another vid swords like the Katana and longsword are backups and personal protection weapons not primary weapons of war. Convenient to carry around, and handy for parrying blows & grappling but second fiddle to almost any dedicated battlefield weapon (Spears, Naginata, maces etc.).

The most notable exception that springs to mind is the Roman Gladius, but it could be described as a glorified short spear with bonus cutting abilities rather than what most people think of as a sword. Rapiers and scimitars could also be thought of as more like spears and axes respectively in this sense.

And then there's the huge specialised warswords like claymores and Zweihanders but as lindy suggests in yet another vid they are a specialised tool for berserker charges and maybe advancing through a pikewall. Certainly not something you'd want to have a duel with or carry around at your waist.

Longswords and Katanas are like modern pistols. Good side-arms, but almost never a primary weapon of war. (Hollywood fails again)

Also.....Longsword totally > Katana. A well made longsword can hold just as sharp an edge as a Katana, has quillons to hook and lever an opponent and a straight focused point that can puncture steel plate. Katanas can maybe dismember someone easier, but that's about it.(all IMHO obviously)

I'm far from an expert, but I've spent a lot of time practicing with a bokken (wooden training sword) and the technique he shows here (control/pivot with the right hand, cut with the left) is pretty much identical to a Japanese sword cut (at least as practiced in Aikido and Iaido).

Of course, we all know that Katanas are crap the BEST SOWARD EVAAR!
