My “I boy”? You’ll have to explain this conspiracy speak. I don’t speak Qnutjob.

McCarthy got a smack down as I understand it, losing control of the house completely to have this kindergarten revenge vote even taken, his expression shows it. He’s not going to last.

Big smack down. The hypocritical moronic liars say he lied…officially by 4 votes on party lines. They are open that this is pure retaliation for leading a investigation into Trump’s campaign and Russia, an investigation that uncovered an insane amount of previously unknown Russian interference in the 2016 election all to benefit Trump from social media trolling campaigns to actively hacking Trump’s opponents repeatedly and publishing the stolen data directly at his public request, numerous unreported financial ties to Russia through his campaign, meetings in person with Trump and Russians at his home (Trump tower) specifically to gain “dirt” on Clinton in some secret international information for favors trade, the campaign involvement in Russia/Wikileaks, Flynn’s illegal negotiations with Russia before Trump took office and his lies about those negotiations, and I forget how many convictions over these charges against high ranking administration officials. He takes it as a badge of honor.
There are no legal or financial consequences that come with a reprimand or censure, and it won’t negatively affect his electability one whit….it might help. Pretty much just like the big win against Hunter. A nothing burger.
Yes, he will probably lose some committee seats like Greene (actually reports say not, he keeps his seat and powers 😂). Nothing the house passes will pass the senate anyway, no huge loss.

Precedent set, be prepared to lose all committee seats in 25 when the right loses their last bit of power.…no whining. (I know you won’t be able to help it). Every Republican has misled the public and house, every Republican has violated ethics rules. They should all be censured. Turnabout is fair play.

For you

You must be proud your “team” has worked so hard to get this important legislation passed…no…I mean has uncovered this anti American plot in congress…no…I mean has struck a serious blow in their culture wars….no…I mean passed this silly infantile resolution that would be embarrassing from a first grade school government. They must have decided the President, country, and government are doing fine, no need to actually legislate anything. Time for playground fighting (Boebert and Greene didn’t get enough and started their own curse laden playground fight on the floor over who gets to try to impeach Biden next and who copied whose articles of impeachment). 😂

Ever heard the term “pyrrhic victory”?

Man Rips Up His Cash Over Seat Belt Ticket

visionep says...

I'm having a hard time imagining the case where wearing a seat belt is going to make you have better control of your car after a collision.

Your moral case, for wearing a seatbelt, while personally compelling, doesn't mean the government should be controlling that activity for individuals. Being selfish is usually not a crime.

There is shared risk if you look deep enough in all activities that people engage in throughout their lives. Newtboy's assertion that these types of activities should be regulated because of their knock-on effects doesn't seem practical in a "free" society.

The reason I don't understand why this is a law is because the affects to society are so low and are similar to many other unregulated choices people are allowed to make. The inconsistency is painful.

BSR said:

Seat belts will better help keep you in control of your vehicle after a collision. If your car rolls over or you go sideways into a tree it helps keep you from back, head and neck injuries which could leave you with pain and mobility issues long after the crash. I also see it as being very selfish to your family and loved ones who potentially may have to care for you if you survive, in which case you will be very annoyed and annoying.

It should be mandated by government because some people think they are the best drivers ever.

Does any of your family members drive the disabled alarm car?

You know, the sad thing here is, there are actual conservative principals worth defending. Conserve as in conservation as in conservative as in keep things the same. Keep em stable.

So when I see "conservatives" at the Supreme Court pretty much upending 50 years of legal precedent, it - much like the laws the would supposedly conserve - is confusing. Like the man who nominated most of them at this point, previous law doesn't seem to affect their decisions if their religious zealotry needs to be front and center.

Therefore, why obey ever changing laws? Just wait until it's overturned. Wait until the other political party can install more judges who are partial to that issue.

Bah

Oh hey I saw Elon musk was the first person ever to lose $200,000,000,000 in a year. Pretty cool. Tesla stock at all time low and VW & NISSAN sold about 10x the electric vehicles in 2022 that tesla did. But you aren't invested in them, all cash in a mattress right ?

Santos and all need to be vetted. Let him step down. America has enough elected lairs.

I sold 1/2 of Tesla at 240 , a lot more at 204 and the rest at 190. So I'm just in cash. If I were to by at today price I would obtain just about 2x the number of shares I sold.

Tesla down 11% today and IMO will continue to fall. Yet to see the up coming recession Q1 Q2, Yet to see implications of all the Fed Rate hikes. Should see this start to appear on upcoming Q4 results.

Now that China has lifted restrictions Mass Covid infections and deaths. This will also affect global economy.

Tesla is not the only getting the snot beaten out of them. Amazon , Meta and all others taken hits. Growth stock getting harder.

This is a great opportunity. Take advantage of this upcoming recession and buy you favorite stock at steep discount.

Santos has now admitted everything he claimed about himself was an outright lie.
He never worked for the companies he claimed.
He never graduated from anywhere.
His grandparents didn’t flee the holocaust.
His animal rescue charity is a total fraud that never rescued animals.
He was homeless, pennyless, and jobless, then 1 year later somehow loaned his campaign $700000 he claimed he made running a family real estate company that owns no real estate and has no clients.
And don’t forget he’s actually in real life a fugitive from Brazil that stole check books from the elderly invalids his mother cared for and bankrupted them by stealing all their money.
Guaranteed no Republican/MAGgot thinks any of that disqualifies him in any way, but would be absolutely insistent he never be sworn in if it were a Democrat lying about any one of these things.
More MAGA lies and liars, more MAGA criminals. Everyone of you is a liar, every single thing you say is a lie or at best delusional.

Tesla’s down ANOTHER 8% today. Oof.

Hellraiser - Trailer

lucky760 says...

Scary movies have never affected me. I loved horror flicks as a kid.

So even now as a grown-ass man, horror movie trailers are always just nothing more than meh, whatevs.

This trailer was pretty well done though. I actually felt my skin crawl a little. Maybe it harkens back to the original Hellraiser movies I saw as a lad and the way those creeped me out a little.

The Scariest Climate Science Paper I’ve Ever Read?

newtboy says...

I think the truly scary part is that our emissions today continue to have an effect on the climate for decades - centuries, so to affect today’s climate we needed to change our emissions decades ago or find feasible, economically and ecologically viable massive carbon sequestration techniques yesterday.

That’s why I believe we are locked into massive unsurvivable changes as a best case scenario, and a mass extinction of anything bigger than a large cat. Much worse if we continue the current course.

Biden Approval WTF

JiggaJonson says...

I did. And I'm happy with the way things are going generally. At least, regarding Joe Biden.

Big picture: there's a lot of terrible things happening in the world. My own half-assed-survey based on personal experience: most people don't follow passing laws and what the executive branch really does with any kind of seriousness. They may self-proclaim they "like reading the news" But most people who say things like that are content with a surface understanding of what's happening.

I mean, you know inflation is up AROUND THE ENTIRE PLANET right? https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/06/15/in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world-inflation-is-high-and-getting-higher/

---------------------------------
---------------------------------
---------------------------------

Besides Israel, other countries with very large increases in inflation between 2020 and 2022 include Italy, which saw a nearly twentyfold increase in the first quarter of 2022 compared with two years earlier (from 0.29% to 5.67%); Switzerland, which went from ‑0.13% in the first quarter of 2020 to 2.06% in the same period of this year; and Greece, a country that knows something about economic turbulence. Following the Greek economy’s near-meltdown in the mid-2010s, the country experienced several years of low inflation – including more than one bout of deflation, the last starting during the first spring and summer of the pandemic. Since then, however, prices have rocketed upward: The annual inflation rate in Greece reached 7.44% in this year’s first quarter – nearly 21 times what it was two years earlier (0.36%).

Annual U.S. inflation in the first quarter of this year averaged just below 8.0% – the 13th-highest rate among the 44 countries examined. The first-quarter inflation rate in the U.S. was almost four times its level in 2020’s first quarter.

Regardless of the absolute level of inflation in each country, most show variations on the same basic pattern: relatively low levels before the COVID-19 pandemic struck in the first quarter of 2020; flat or falling rates for the rest of that year and into 2021, as many governments sharply curtailed most economic activity; and rising rates starting in mid- to late 2021, as the world struggled to get back to something approaching normal.

---------------------------------
---------------------------------
---------------------------------

The pattern of rising and falling inflation happened because that flu that "will just go away like a miracle" ended up affecting the whole world's economy in a somewhat predictable pattern when it comes to inflation. Maybe the people who only casually glance at the news when they are flipping channels don't know better, but come on - you know that inflation rates in the United States are not specifically Joe Biden's fault right?

You still think they are? OKAY - HOW? Exactly. Point to legislation passed or not passed and the timeline of inflation in the United States.

Something like "Here you can see inflation beginning to spike, and it's the result of XXXXXXXXX that Joe Biden did, here's exactly how what he did affects inflation in this way."

Who wants to bet $20 that I'll get some response like that? What should the odds be set at if I am 100% certain all I'll get is just some snarky bullshit from an old bullfrog.

The meme near the end was insightful.

First thought hearing details about the virus was it wouldn't affect enough (the right sector of) people to be seen as a threat. If it had been like the Spanish Flu or affected primarily little ones - then it would be an emergency.

Damn shame one knows the score before it's put up on the board.

Why GM Says Its Ultium Batteries Will Lead To EV Dominance

spawnflagger says...

I think Tesla does some innovative stuff - like using the worlds largest metallic moulds (built by some Italian company if I recall, which make those exclusively for Tesla). But ultimately Elon is a "hype man", and most of his promises have fallen flat (check out Thunderf00t's youtube channel - he debunks many scammy startups as well as Elon's claims, using high school chemistry and physics).

I do applaud Tesla for opening additional factories in Germany and China so quickly, but exponential growth (for any EV maker) is impossible - there's simply not enough easy-to-mine lithium in the world. (Maybe Elon is planning to mine some asteroids instead of going to Mars? who knows)

The GM battery tech isn't exciting or sexy, but it is a means to building a more affordable EV. Ford is already shipping F-150 Lightning (assuming its not affected by the same contactor recall as the Mach-E). Rivian has been (slowly) shipping trucks.
Where's the CyberTruck? I bet even the electric Silverado will start shipping before the CyberTruck.

The Man Who Accidentally Killed The Most People In History

luxintenebris says...

kinda makes a body wonder doesn't it?

how much lead could have lead to one's suppressed mental functions?

what could have been?

am no velvet tam wearer, but certainly not red mad hatter material.* maybe should be proud of what little there was to work with. a little less embarrassed about what didn't go right either.

maybe if this was known, would have given license to beg off father's "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!"

"Sorry Pops. All that lawn mowing must have affected your son too much."

But then...WTF is the excuse for Twitter?

*mad as a hatter. mercury nitrate.

My first job was when I was 14 at the town newspaper at the end of my street. They had a machine called a Linotype. (line of type)

It made type ingots from lead which would print text after being inked up and then pressed onto paper. Sometimes my job was to clean the ink off them and put them into buckets so they could be melted down and used again. My hands would be coated with lead.

I also handled lead type in high school for two years.

Guess I should get tested eh?

When it comes to memory issues, I've had a bad memory for as long as I can remember.

You can see the lead bar hanging on the machine.

Missouri tries to legislate reality away

bcglorf says...

@newtboy,

1. Given how few people are affected, I'd love to see way less coverage of trans-sports as a wedge issue to rally political bases

2. Failing that, isn't it clearly 100% common sense that the Men's and Women's sports divisions are NOT divisions applied based upon gender but instead upon biological sex, and as such should always have been a non-issue.

3. I really can't see the issue, if it must be raised, as anything other than a request for special exemptions to be made. Existing competitive sports are divided based on biological sex and most have requirements around usage of drugs, hormones and other performance enhancing substances. We have existing and established testing for both the biological sex and PED requirements. Applying those equally to everyone IS equality.
