Well... this sort of phoney/satirical news program has always been huge in Canada. This Hour Has 22 Minutes started a few years before the Daily Show, and like a decade before Stewart took over. The Mercer Report definitely came before the Colbert Report.

Like all good Amercian progamming, it comes from elsewhere, like England, Norway and Canada.

Yes, except that would be a good analogy only if the Daily Show started off as a 4-person show, and then Jon Stewart left to make his own show - this would be like the new show.

The 4-person show is "This Hour has 22 minutes" (the title itself a parody/homage of the ground-breaking Canadian show This Hour has Seven Days

I have the whole series on DVD of 2525, it wasn't as good as other Sam Raimi/Rob Tapert efforts... But it was 22 minutes to turn off your brain and chuckle at good looking women blowing shit up.

And that's just as good as damn near anything when the mood hits.

I like them, but can see your point. Still, I like to see bits of FG or Simpsons and the nice part is, I don't have to commit 22 minutes to watch the whole show to get some laughs.

Actually, "Monday Report" is a spin-off of "This Hour has 22 minutes" which pre-dates "The Daily Show" by about 5 years.

People who copy half their TV shows off others (Survivor for example) shouldn't throw stones.

I didn't think it was that bad, really, and it had a couple of funny bits (admittedly interspersed with some yawners).

However, the title is kind of irritating ... haven't they ever hear of "This hour has 22 minutes"??? Classic (and very very funny) Canadian TV.
