Ryan Reynolds:"I'm a Horrible Driver".. but he is very funny

I don't mind most Americanisms, I see them as the evolution of language. However, in the case of proper nouns, it does bug me; if it's a British word, they are as objectively wrong as language can be.
Jag-u-ar. Ir-aq. Ir-an. Al-u-min-i-um. Car-i-bbe-an.
Edit: Oh yes, spelt is valid English. Only US English does away with it in favour of "spelled".

Except aluminium was called aluminum by the chemist who discovered it, Humphry Davy, in his 1812 book which publicized the metal. It was some anonymous jackass writing a review of Davy's book who decided to change it to aluminium because he didn't like the sound of Davy's choice.

Jaguar is a Portuguese word and I believe their pronunciation is closer to "jag-war" than "jag-you-are".

But generally, I agree with you. I still say catch myself saying "eye-rack" and "eye-ran" instead of "ee-rock" and "ee-ron". I go back and forth on the emphasis on Caribbean. It's hard to break old habits.

Proof The Tea Party isn't Racist

Right, your logic is undeniable, if you want sound money, no central bank, or state works projects, your are a racist. Glad we cleared up your position.

You mean the man responsible for one of the larger acts of treachery towards the natives, of which helped him win the war of 1812, was a democrat? Wait, Abraham Lincoln was a republican? It is hard for me to recite my trite narrative with this historical evidence in my path!

Andrew Jackson's platform reads like a Tea Party masturbation fantasy. He eliminated the national debt, he eliminated the Federal Reserve of his time, he wanted to eliminate paper money (gold and silver coins only, please!), and thought a federal highway or rail system was unconstitutional. Hey, wasn't the Confederacy a project embarked on by a bunch of Southern Democrats who believed in states' rights? Totally different from Southern Republicans advocating so many of the same things today, because, like, Abraham Lincoln and stuff.
That sounds like solid historical evidence to me. Evidence that supports my hypothesis, though.
It must be hard indeed for you to recite your trite narrative with all that historical evidence in your path!

@NetRunner, well, I don't know because I try not to lump individuals into collectives, statist.
Honestly though, I absolutely know there are racists in ever party, even the Libertarian Party. It's human. I just don't want to categorize the TP as being racist because some of its members, just like I haven't done so to the Democratic party for it's racist founder: Andrew Jackson.

Glenn Beck: "Obama Sympathizes with Terrorists"

heropsycho says...

Before I make my points, I just want to say I'm not especially an Obama supporter, but with that said:

A. Beck has not been called a neo-fascist by Obama.
B. Beck isn't the President of the United States.
C. Two wrongs don't make a right.

It is not 100% accurate that Obama always sees the US as the villain. He does not see the US as the villain in World War II, Afghanistan, the Cold War overall, I could keep going on and on. You're wrong, clearly, plainly, clear as day.

Let me slippery slope you the other way - Are you seriously suggesting the US has never made a mistake?! The War of 1812 was a good idea? How about invading Iraq the last time without a plan on how to occupy it first? How about giving military support to Saddam in the first place? Bay of Pigs? Political strategy in Vietnam? Slavery? Denying women the right to vote for more than half our history?

How about I wait 10 years, and bring up an Obama policy you disagree with, and say, "See? You think the US is ALWAYS the villain, that's 100% accurate!"

How about you stop being a partisan hack and contribute something meaningful to political discourse?! Newsflash: the US has and will continue to make mistakes. Having a critical eye on your own country doesn't mean you think your country is always the villain. It means you're doing what you should be as an American citizen.

I just wanted to take a moment say and tell you I greatly appreciated your saying that. I myself have duel-citizenship with Canada and the US... almost all my family is Canadian and i've spent a very large portion of my life in Canada. While i absolutly love it and look forward to going back each year... i can't tell you how many times i've heard this... this exact thing... friends, family, classmates this gets hauled out and worked into conversation a truly bizzare number of times when people realize I'm an American... the other one... The Space Arm... A close second... It's one I usually nod and smile and insie wonder exactly why they'd even want to lay claim to that... let alone how they figure...

Anyway i agreed completely and especially with regard to your final comment "There are a lot better examples for Candians to use."...

Cheers
Jan

A good retort to Gutfeld, until near the end. I'm Canadian and I am getting tired of Canadians bringing up the War of 1812 and the burning of Washington. Yeah, we burnt the capital of the United States to the ground... almost 200 years ago. And it wasn't like it was really Canada, it was thousands of seasoned British veterans led by experienced commanders who took along some Canadian provincials to fight an inexperienced and smaller American army supported by relatively unorganized militias (very few of whom left their homes to fight on the campaigns).

There are a lot better examples for Canadians to use.

P.S., we didn't burn it down in 1812, it was actually burnt down in 1814, during the War of 1812 (which lasted 3 years).

Fox News Declares War on Canada

nomino says...

Check out this amazing comment I found on Reddit about this video

user GCRANSTON writes:
"See, this is why Fox News can't get a broadcast license in Canada.

I might also mention

1. War of 1812: Lit the White House on fire; American's commemorate this in their National Anthem

2. Vimy Ridge: First time Canadian Troops under Canadian command; advanced so fast troops were ordered to halt because supplies couldn't keep up. When asked how we took the untakeable position to quickly, Canadians respond with "No one told us it was impossible to do"

3. Passchedaele: Canadian troops inspire the original use of the term "Storm Troopers"

4. Dieppe: Canadian troops undertake practice invasion of the coast of France. Terrible loss of Canadian life. Lessons learned directly led to the successes at Normandy.

5. D-Day: Despite lessons learned from Dieppe, no beach head other than Juno - the Canadian Beach - was successful. American pilots actually bombed Canadian troops stating "no way are they that far inland; we're still stuck on the beaches!"

I'd go on but I'm just too furious with this lack of respect for my country. I will only say that Canada is in Afghanistan cleaning up America's mess, operating in the most dangerous part of the entire country. Maybe the reason Fox can't remember Canadians are in Afghanistan is that THEY WERE DOING SO BADLY THERE THEY HAD TO START ANOTHER WAR WITH IRAQ TO DRAW PEOPLE'S ATTENTION AWAY?!?

Fox News, I say to you with with deep sincerity: Go Fuck Yourself."

wow, couldn't've said it better

You are a slave to the Rothschilds! End the Federal Reserve!

rougy says...

I think the gist of this is spot on.

The money makers and the big-time usurers have never given a shit about anybody but themselves.

They'll giddily collapse a nation if it means it will either make them more money, increase their span of influence, or undermine whomever they consider a rival.

America may have declared the War of 1812, but it was the British warships prohibiting trade between the U.S. and France, and Britain's “impressment” of U.S. naval crew members, that lead to that declaration.

You are a slave to the Rothschilds! End the Federal Reserve!

yonderboy says...

I love reading this kind of idiocy. These are the same people that point to signature of the Sec of Treasury as "proof" that our tender is *NOT* legal. The holes in this "logic" are so insane that I won't even attempt to point them all out. I'll start with the very first one.

America started the War of 1812. Britain did *NOT* declare war on America. They were a bit busy with this guy Napoleon in 1812 and the LAST thing they wanted was a new war in the colonies. But we wanted to invade Canada.

These are the same idiots who claim to know, factually, that the income tax is unconstitutional because the 16th amendment was not properly processed.

It's all just stupid.
