Goodbye Dwigger
We've closed Dwigger effective immediately. After a nice initial splash in the media - traffic kind of dried up. Rather than let it turn into a spam link dump we decided to shut it down.
I would have taken some credit if Dwigger had been a smashing success - so I feel I must take the blame for the failed idea. I thought that voting for Tweets would be a slam-dunk - something vitally missing from the huge galaxy of Twitter content. The 'net thought otherwise. Traffic collapsed and we couldn't justify the cost of the dedicated server or time anymore.
Truth be told, even I didn't spend much time there - though I think it has something to do with my neural pathways being so seared for VideoSift only URLs.
Something I took away from the experience is that it's not that easy to start a successful web community - and the chances of catching lightening in a bottle twice are not that great.
That doesn't mean we're giving up on new projects - we have something special coming down the pipe that is not our project per se - but supports another very successful site.
VaroCMS is a one of a kind community platform and we're getting a lot of inquiries for other kinds of sites. Stay tuned.
Anyway - if you did use Dwigger - (DotDude, Maatc and others) thanks for showing up.

Well, it was a solid try, and you did good by the concept, even if it never really took off. I guess I'm getting old because the appeal of twitter has never found a home in my twitchy, net addicted heart.
Rather then let it turn into a spam link dump we decided to shut it down.
Rather THAN. Not then.
Sorry to hear that, dag. I thought it was a great idea. I think you should revel in the success you created with VideoSift and feel very proud of that. And... yeah, it's still "than" not then. They're two different words with two separate meanings. Just saying. </dick>
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
^thanks for that - fixed. Sometimes I make really dumb errors. The other day I wrote "know" for "no".
Alzheimer's ... or maybe chanling my inur Westy.
How is the escalopter community?
R.I.P. Dwigger Live fast, die young!
It takes a lot to just let go of something that you both put so much work in, so I admire you for being able to pull the plug like that.
I am sure something else will come up, and it`s not exactly like you are short on work either...

Seems quite slow on updates, maybe I should go for a christmas spin?
It always seemed like a niche site for a niche site. Logically you would be using Twitter, Dwigger and Twirl? This not accounting for Facebook, MySpace and others. Seems like too much.
I've never wanted to use twitter, which kept me off it.
I just use Messenger profile messages to express myself. I do like the idea of dwigger, but the twitter requirement scared me off.
as someone who predicted this i feel it is now necessary to say i told you so.
and don't just blame the concept... maybe it the execution was lacking too
I signed up for Twitter, and then did the Dwigger thing... once I saw dwigger following me, and realized a bunch of people were going to read everything I posted I freaked out and blocked Dwigger.
@MINK: How very classy of you.
@kommie: dwigger's following you didn't make anything you tweeted get posted to dwigger. To add a post to dwigger you had to either explicitly post on the dwigger site or send a direct message to the dwigger account at twitter.
@dag and @lucky, are you guys still using Twitter?
I'm sad to see Dwigger go.

I used it for a while, then didn't keep up with it. just recently went on again and ALL i could find were links to different programs and websites and shit. it sucked. sorry, nice try tho.
Good run of it fellas... Don't let it keep you from trying new creative ideas. You could strike gold again

You are such a misunderstood genius Mink. If only people understood your brilliance.
My condolences.
(*warning: run-on sentence ahead*)
I tried dwigger, but I signed up for twitter just to do so, which I had never heard of, and because I have a really narrow field of focus on the internet (otherwise the room starts spinning) I only went back a couple of times... then, I am embarrased to say, I actually forgot all about it because I like perusing videosift, facebook, and my email which is about all I can handle.
Again, very sorry to hear of your loss.
*hug*
i always aim to be classy. but missing is funner.
Sorry to hear. It was a good effort, and I'm sure you learned something along the way. Frankly, I just don't get the Twitter thing. I must be doing it wrong.

Oh... well too late now I guess
Can have a couple of minutes alone with dwigger before you pull the plug?
