Movies I've Walked Out of Because they're Really, Really Bad: a List (Blog Entry by dag)

Farhad2000 says...

Source Code is pretty enjoyable.

I have never walked out of a movie because most of the time I was sneaking into them.

Even when the movie is shit I still stay around and hate on it.

The worst one i watched this year has to be Zack Snyder's sugar... what the fuck was it called? SUCKERPUNCH yeah.

What will define the 2010 decade? (Politics Talk Post)

1. Someone (a state or a terrorist organization) will detonate a nuclear bomb - to kill people, not as a test. We can't keep the nuclear genie in the bottle forever. If a weapon is made, it will be used.
2. Zack Snyder will direct the film about it.

Yeah I guess I'm just too emotionally invested in it, like "Hey this is the greatest song ever" and then almost nobody else is even impressed.

As for Watchmen, I guess it's too late for you to read the book before it leaves theatres. I've gotten over my strong aversion to the film and if I can get some fucking time I will go see it. I'm sure it'll be an excellent movie I just don't appreciate Zack Snyder trying to bite on Alan Moore's body of work.

I thought it was great and will definitely see it again while anxiously awaiting the 30 minute longer directors cut. Zack Snyder did an awesome balancing act, keeping the plot moving without having to sacrifice too much of the original story, and it looked perfect, which is rarely the case in comic book movies. Nice performances and a good score (except for the cheesy guitar stuff and some of the played-to-death licensed songs).

It's also nice to see something so dark and morally conflicted on screen. I took pleasure knowing that others in the room would be frustrated with the awesomely atypical and unpredictable ending.

It would have been nice if they'd added a couple minutes of footage throughout the film to set up the New Frontiersman, so that the very end would have more meaning. It also would have been nice to work in a little bit of the newspaper man and his relationship with his comic book addicted non-customer.

Leaving out the pirate tale seemed like a necessity and the major change at the end was actually pretty cool - maybe even an improvement.

I really don't get why so many are panning this film.

Watchmen Fan Cordially Invited Fox to Eat All The Dicks (Cinema Talk Post)

Sarzy says...

I'm a bit late to this party, but may I mention that I think that Zack Snyder is a talentless hack, and that I hope that Fox wins the hell out of this lawsuit. Not only that, I hope they somehow manage to round up every existing copy of the film and throw them all back to hell where they came from, before yet another Alan Moore comic is forced to drop its pants, bend over and get raped by Hollywood.

Your Top Ten Horror Films. (Blog Entry by dystopianfuturetoday)

Sarzy says...

I've seen far fewer horror films than I'd like, but here's my list, such as it is:

1. The Shining
2. Psycho
3. The Descent
4. Shaun of the Dead
5. Alien
6. The Thing
7. Audition
8. Halloween (NOT the Rob Zombie version)
9. The Ring
10. The Hills Have Eyes (the remake)

The worst:

1. A tie between both of the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes... ugh. If there's anything worse than Michael Bay the director, it's Michael Bay the producer.
2. House of Wax (the remake)
3. Silent Hill

And I have to say, I'm a bit puzzled to see the remake of Dawn of the Dead on so many lists. That's a classic example of style over substance (and not particularly good style, either). There wasn't a single decent, three-dimensional character in the film, which was puzzling considering that the movie spends a ridiculous amount of time with the characters sitting around talking. I hate Zack Snyder, and I'm getting ready to really despise him once he inevitably ruins Watchmen.
