Xbox One Kinect Calls Foul on Bad Language

Lawdeedaw says...

Because people want them "real" as possible. I am fine with the old games on NES because I don't care. But if you bought the Xbox one well then you obviously need it as close to life to feel complete as possible. His desire, not mine.

Also, didn't know a player was a commentator? Was he just spectating the game and not involved in "playing?" If so I can understand. John Madden used to do this all the time...

Ahhh, but if we're going to use the 'would it happen in real life?' postulate, I would point out that he was commenting as if he were a commentator, not as a player, so why was one player/team penalized?
I don't know why that would be a decent reason for this kind of thing either, most games are NOT like real life in most ways, even this game has many elements in it that are completely unrealistic in order to make it a fun, playable game. If the Xbox1 is going for this kind of unrealistic realism across the board, I think I'll stick with my ps3. I play games for fun, not to allow the speech police in my home. (That said, I don't play online or use the microphone/speech feature, so this likely wouldn't ever happen to me).
I'm just guessing, but is this a feature of multiplayer meant to keep people from spouting obscenities in quasi-public arenas in order to limit customer exposure to unwanted cursing? That would actually be reasonable, especially if it can be turned off with the agreement of both players in an online game.

It does? Since when does PS4 require an always-listening device to play any of its games?

It doesn't? And navigating most of the U.I. is damn near impossible without that piece of equipment on Xb1? well, shit. Guess it's a good thing people are defending a useless trinket that should never have been the focus of a console then.

Seriously, go ahead and back up whatever console you prefer, but Xbox One was supposed to be online-only, and always have a kinect, and a lot of the aspects of the console show it. In a battle where graphics are now essentially moot (Both consoles are beefy enough that they really don't matter anymore)
the comparisons fall to the features they can provide.

Is walking into a room and saying "Xbox on" and having it turn on your stuff cool? Yeah. it is. Is that worth an extra 100 bucks? not to me, it's not.

Some people in this discussion are expressing pretty negative reactions towards XBox One and Kinect 2.0 over this feature.

Guess what. It's the game developer who added this feature, not XBox or Kinect. Go complain to 2K Games.

But then, that would have occurred to you if you didn't have such a hardon for bashing XBox. Still want to bash Microsoft over this? Oh, wait...PS4 has the same feature in these games! If you're the type of person to go into a rage spin over something like this then turn the feature off.

The Sony Playstation 4 (PS4) Makes Its Debut

Actually a lot of people think about that. There was a pretty big outcry when it was announced that the Kinect for the Xbox one would essentially be on all the time (or at least would have to be plugged in all the time), and Microsoft eventually had to come out and say that they had gotten rid of this requirement.

I love the gameplay implementations of things like these cameras, but technology has been so quickly turned around and aimed back in our faces. No one thinks about the privacy implications. Our TVs having the ability to watch and listen to everything in our home is just too similar to certain literary warnings in history.

Battlefield 4: Next-Gen vs. Current-Gen

To me, the new tech looks a lot better !! and the xbox one looks better than the ps4... this is the first comparison I've seen where it stands out. It looks like "getting a new pair of glasses" to me, there is a lot more detail than the old tech.

Yes, some scenes looked closer than others but overall, this is some real progress.

My thoughts:

* For technology that is 8 years old, this is mighty impressive how small the difference is. It's worth looking back to see the 360/PS3 launch titles to see just how much has come from programming efficiency rather than raw processing power. It will be interesting to see if in 5 years, these new consoles will look equally miles better than they do now.

* Textures are sharper, particle effects like smoke and dust are snazzier and draw distance is greatly improved but ... on the whole, the lighting, most of the doodads in the environment, and the overall 'feel' is the same if you don't look too close.

* Sony's consoles seem to always display darker by default than MS's. I don't understand why for the purposes of comparison they can't pump up the brightness.

* With all the furore about Xbox One being 720p and PS4 being 900p (which doesn't sound too bad but is about 50% more pixels to the PS4), there doesn't seem to be a large diference in detail. If anything the environmental effects seem slightly better on the Xbox One.

You're becoming a better news source than CNN, MSNBC and Fox News rolled together. I love how all the big corporations are trying to distance themselves from all these leaks. I think Microsoft is going to be especially damaged since that whole Xbox One fiasco coupled with them willingly giving NSA access to their operating systems and lying about it. Good. Let them all fall.

Snowden handed another set of slides over to the largest newspaper in Germany as well as a public broadcasting service. These slides include the names of telecoms that were involved in GCHQ's dragnet program.

The crème de la crème:
Verizon Business, Codename: Dacron, British Telecommunications ("Remedy"), Vodafone Cable ("Gerontic"), Global Crossing ("Pinnage"), Level 3 ("Little"), Viatel ("Vitreous"), Interoute ("Streetcar").

Many of these are customers of DE-CIX, the world's largest IXP, whose operators were adamant in their claim that no foreign service has access to their infrastructure -- no word about their corporate lackeys, understandably so.

And you gotta love how brazen they are in their admission that GCHQ's work is in the best interest of Britain's economy -- yes, economy.

And while we're at it: public broadcast journalists dug out a list of 207 US companies that are involved in intelligence gathering on German soil. Best comment was by the CEO of DE-CIX: these providers (re: Level 3) work in accordance with US law, even in Frankfurt. Not German law, US law.

Maybe we can still beat Puerto Rico in the race to become your 51st state.

Who Would Want to Buy Anything From These Pricks??

Saw the full interview the other day. "What are you talking about? The Xbox One is GREAT! Restrictions?? Noooo.. these are *features*.".

Literally what it amounted to.
