Redgum "I Was Only Nineteen" (1983)
This along with "and the band played waltzing matilda" and "When the tigers broke free" are some of the most poignant war/anti war songs ever.
The Fucking Flowers from Pink Floyd The Wall
A great sequence from the film and one of just two songs (I think) that were in the movie but not on the original double LP. Well, a drastically cut version of this one is actually on the LP and, interestingly, the full lyrics were also printed on the sleeve so it must have been a very last-minute cut. The other song in the film but not the LPs is "When the Tigers Broke Free", which is also excellent, IMHO.
Anybody know if these were restored in later versions of the CD?
Pink Floyd's drummer allows Top Gear to borrow his Enzo
It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them *dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy from me.
