How South Park Gets Trump Right – Wisecrack

newtboy says...

I'm waiting for them to point out that Heidi, the only Cartman supporter, is really the biggest snowflake on the show (besides Cartman). She's with Cartman because they both left social media because of bullying and ugliness (well, ok, Cartman was thrown off because of his ugliness, but still).

Counterpunch ran a rant by John Steppling yesterday, titled The Magic Liberal.

As you can deduct from the title, the author takes aim at liberals, with focus on their public reaction to Comey's defenestration and their sudden love affair with institutions (law enforcement/intelligence agencies) that have proven time and time again to be an enemy of the public.

Check out this (admittedly rather long) snippet:

And so we return to the firing of James Comey. And this story has less to do with the Trump’s motivations and the fact that Comey probably needed to be fired (though not because of anything to do with Russia Gate) than it does with the sudden open embracing of throughly corrupt and compromised institutions.

I’ve had people tell me the integrity of the Judiciary in peril. One wonders how such sentences can be uttered with a straight face. I have read people writing of the attack on Democracy signaled by Comey’s firing. What can that possibly mean to anyone who says it? The anti democratic actions of Obama over 8 years seems to pass unnoticed. What was NDAA? Obama expanded surveillance, prosecuted whistleblowers and expanded military tribunals. And this just scratches the surface. What was TTP for that matter?

And yet, if you can find me a liberal willing to actually debate this, I will clean your house for a year, free.

No, the New Victorian, the american white educated liberal is in crises. He or she is in a panic over Trump not because they fear global conflagration or nuclear annihilation, but because their Yoga class might get cancelled. They are forever aggrieved over the violation of feelings — of selected vulnerable groups. This never includes the poor, Arabs, Communists or Africans. Well, ok, on occasion it does include Africans but only in very broad abstract ways (i.e. when George Clooney argues for saving South Sudan or whateverthefuckever it was he was on about).

The adoration of the White Helmets, a proven group of psychopathic jihadist mercenaries is a perfect example. The White Helmets fit the white paternalist narrative. It is a form of colonial logic. The subaltern needs rescue. And its just so wonderful that some clearly teachable Arabs can help themselves with the rescue. Lets give them an Oscar. The style codes are what matters here.

chris hedges-understanding our political nightmare

shagen454 says...

Well, OK. I do love me some Chris Hedges, but god damn - the left is never going to win anything with tone like this. No one *wants* to listen to it. Sure, they should, but it's hard to be annihilated by the truth when it's spoken in a piercing frequency, lol.

I think that is what Sanders was trying to do - the political establishment understands this "Tweet" culture, of simple-minded ADHD, ritalin addicts who know nothing about politics, or the truth so you basically have to keep it short & sweet. I definitely don't believe Sanders would have made any better impact as an Independent (except for the fact that I would have voted for him), I agree - he didn't teach us much, but he kept it slightly angry (good tone though and tone is huge) and simple for mass consumption.

I feel like the only thing to save humanity (and the environment) is massive & sheer economic collapse to fucking ruin capitalism FOREVER, let's move to a forest and make a 100% sustainable living & future. We have the tech to do it now. And it needs to be done right now, like right this split second.

Well, OK...but it's still in the same region. I guess 'close, but no cigar'?
It would have made sense for them to put off releasing it then, since they seemed to have released it after the crash.

It's 2100kms from Dubai to Sharm El Sheikh, so not THAT close, and anyway this was filmed several weeks before the crash.

Delicate Surgery

poolcleaner says...

I was going to dodge your reply but I always enjoyed the games I attended when Barry Bonds tore shit up, even at the cost of my home team.

But I've witnessed first hand several of Piazzas's epic grand slams. Most games are like, well, ok that was boring, if not medatative, but not those Piazza games.

Sort of like this surgery. Most surgeries are just so boring. But this is home run leading shit right here.

Calm, OK. Polite, not as I read it, it's kind of like trying to 'shut down comments', commanding a stranger to 'read this and don't reply', and is not polite IMO...especially when "this" is another unrelated comment. You brought me into that thread with that, no whining that I'm there.

Ahhhh, I see, the "cherry-picked strawman" argument is that you continue to ignore my clear, succinct, focused request for confirmation of a single point you made, and instead replied with a broad unrelated "she sucks" argument.
Well, OK, since I made it as clear as possible there was one detail I'm attempting to be discussing, and you continue on that line, that means that @Stormsinger is right, you can't be discussed with, and either can't comprehend that disagreement on a single detail doesn't mean opposition on every detail, or are trolling me.
Either way....
thanks for the discussion...for the fourth time I'll say that we can disagree on a tiny detail and be done now...good bye.
no reply necessary, but certainly allowed.

FTFY

Or did you miss the part where Newt called me a smarmy dick?

I approached this new thread in a calm, polite manner.

Then, when asked not to drag our personal debate into this new thread..

Newtboy proceeded to insult me & cherry-pick a strawman argument.

Two wrongs? Eye-for-an-eye? That's perfectly acceptable now?

This is why the videosift community is a joke.

It's Illegal To Feed The Homeless In Florida

newtboy says...

Well, OK....if you live(d) there you DO know it better than I. I have family near by, and have driven through many times. It always seemed far more 'conservative' than you say, but again, I never lived there, I'm just going by fleeting impressions and second hand info.
What set me off was 2 part...first that you didn't bother to watch the video but still commented on it as if you had (not so bad a thing, but odd), and second the implication that anti-homeless laws were a 'LIBERAL' thing and not a 'CONSERVATIVE' thing, because the videos shown/seen have clearly shown the opposite. Apologies if I went overboard.
The one's on film saying 'feeding them is keeping them homeless' or 'we don't want homeless people here, period, and anything that removes them or makes them uncomfortable is what we want' have all been republican/tea party elderly white people. It may be they're the outliers and it really IS a 'liberal' plan, but I ask you, which 'party' does the chairman of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust belong to (I honestly don't know)? (I must admit I was really surprised to see the mayor is a Democrat).
So, while you seem to be at least partially correct (maybe totally), I hope you understand why I was (apparently) mistaken, since all the vocal people out there promoting starving the homeless are conservatives.
Where I live, it's a 'liberal' bastion, and we DO feed the homeless here along with other services they're offered, and we have a very vocal 'conservative' population that wants to do exactly what Ft Lauderdale did, make feeding them or offering ANY service illegal, including police and medical services. They're pretty hard core about it.

Yes, I think it was about 'starve the poor' as a method of removing them from sight, either by death or (more likely) displacement. It's not so much they want them dead, it's just they don't care if that's what it takes to remove them. That in itself SEEMS to be a 'conservative' mindset, not 'liberal'.
...but perhaps a Florida 'liberal democrat' is more right wing than a West coast 'conservative republican'?

Ahh, and we all live in a cesspool of retards and liars. Never forget! ;-)

@newtboy
whoa whoa scooter..slow yer roll.
i lived in lauderdale and there aint NOTHING conservative about that joint.huge gay community AND a huge new york jewish community.
so yeah..liberal.

and rich.im not talking "kinda rich" im talking 'lets pull our 5 story yacht to have dinner on an over-priced intercoastal posh eatery" (which i worked at quite a few).

so i dont know what set you off, when i am speaking from actual experience.
was it the word "liberal"?
ok..let me rephrase...
obscenely rich liberals who dont want to actually SEE poor, homeless people.
they want them..you know..over there------------>
the whole "not in my back yard" thing.

yes..they donate handsomely.
yes..they gift furniture and other essentials.
yes..they help sponsor food drives (but over there------->)

so im not saying they are bad people.
i am saying they are hypocrites.
because THEY are the most vocal in local government, and while they may be generous in their charities they are also the ones who push to get those icky, unshowered homeless people out of plain sight.

cuz homeless people are icky.
what would their vacationing austrian family think???

and since tourism is the MAIN source of income in the lauderdale/boca/west palm area, the local government does what it does best.

criminalize the poor.

so it wasnt a case of "starve the poor".
it was a case of "hey,we see poor people..and in PUBLIC"

the horror......
poor people...
in public...
they must need therapy now.

i live on the west coast now (and not the cool naples west coast) and yes..this bunch of dimwitted morons who retired from middle management in order to over pay for their golf privileges and get all their news from FOX are exactly the demographic you are talking about.

not to mention the gulf coast seems to be a white trash mecca.

and yes..there IS an evangelical baptist church on every corner (true story).

and it is with great sadness that i have to admit to being neighbors with these very same dimbulbs who just re-elected rick scott.the same man who paid out the largest medicare fraud in HISTORY!

so thanks for reminding me i live in a mudpit of retards....thanks newt.

im gonna go crawl into a ball now and cry myself to sleep humming the doors "this is the end".

David Mitchell on Atheism

Yogi says...

Well ok, but I've always admired Chomsky and how he addresses vitriol and stupidity. Regardless if you agree with the stuff he says, when he's just stating facts or establishing a context he's very calm and collected. You can tell when he's getting mad about something or upset when he's a bit short, but he's very respectful always.

newtboy said:

I would say Richard D can be a dick, but is not always being one (except by name). I can understand why he's so 'outspoken' (disrespectful) with the ridiculous arguments he has to contradict and the obtuseness and intentional misunderstanding coupled with rude angry vitriol and certitude in things impossible to know.
I'm not excusing his lack of decorum at times, I'm just saying I understand it.

The Newsroom - Why Will is a Republican

VoodooV says...

What is helping with that though is that because the right keeps moving the goalposts, so many people who were once Republicans are now RINOs according to the extremists. Just like this video suggests, Will may be a fictional character, but he's describing exactly what a lot of moderate Republicans are going through right now. The right wing extremists have decided to pursue a personal vendetta against Obama and all the moderates in the party are going "wtf?"

Sorry, but that's the most basic sign of a downfall. when you keep purging your ranks for not having enough ideological purity, you're not exactly planning for long term success.

When all the big historical Republicans heroes like Lincoln, Nixon, and Reagan, and maybe even HW Bush couldn't win a Republican primary in today's climate, you know you're losing touch

I dunno though, speaking more generally however, there's got to be some way of inducing politicians to not play games like this. The whole 10% approval yet 90% incumbancy rate should hopefully shock people into doing something. We've got a bill that passed both houses of congress, signed into law by the president AND upheld by the SCOTUS, and yet a small faction is holding gov't hostage over this.

I don't see how it's even legal to defund something that is law. If it's law, how is it legal to interfere with it like that? If you don't like it, pass a new law repealing it....that should be the only way to stop an existing law (other than Supreme Court of course)

I've heard this numerous times before from conservatives that we need to enforce the laws already on the books....well...ok. Let's do that.

Stormsinger said:

I do see a fair number of echo-chamber addicts, RFlagg. But the crazier and more extreme the GOP gets, the less they appeal to the other 70% of the voters. This is the self-destruction I'm referring to. 30% of the vote won't get them very far, they'll be the newest equivalent of the Green party, i.e. unable to win any election of value.

I'd like to see a Warren/Franken ticket, in whatever order of precedence. Franken certainly seems clued in enough to capture the non-Luddite crowd's interest.

But yeah, the Democrats definitely have to avoid that defeat problem they historically have had. I'm not sure they can do it...more likely they'll balkanize and start bicker themselves into losing.

A couple more days!!! WHAT?? Did you forget to pay your power bill? I hope you have plenty of batteries!

In case you weren't aware, this site consists of about 90% males. That title alone would have been enough to sift it!! There was a sifter survey done here about a year ago...I'll attach it in case you're curious to see the demographics of the site...I thought the results were interesting. http://videosift.com/talk/SIFTER-SURVEY-RESULTS

Well ok then, if you would feel honored by the FSM touching YOU, than who am I to deny him...her...it.

I can not believe you didn't choose THIS Jimi Hendrix song. The greatest one of them all. It seems like exactly the type you'd like too. I was sure you would have preferred this one over Voodoo Child. Am I wrong?? Do you like this one?

And I don't have any candles.

I do, however, have a flashlight, and summer days are always long here in Sweden - even now, in the middle of August.

I did indeed know that I have six slots, and believe me; I will make good use of them.

But yes, I should have realized that the one with Aubrey Plaza masturbating would do well. I mean, it's Aubrey Plaza. Masturbating. Whoa.

Oh, and Queen was basically one the best bands of all time. Freddie Mercury was essentially the personification of ROCK. So very, very awesome. Great choices in songs, by the way! I especially love Somebody to Love - that is such an amazing song.

Let's not forget to pay Hendrix all his due respects, though.

Oh, and you should feel honored to have the Flying Spaghetti Monster touch you with His noodly appendages.
