Paper Thin Bendable Smartphone Prototype

westy says...

>> ^EMPIRE:

Westy... the retarded part isn't the flexible screen. That's pretty damn cool, and I can't wait for phones that can wrap into something resembling a pen or other cilindrical shape.
The retarded part is controlling the phone with bending... it's just so damn stupid, and because they have to had those bending sensors in the back, it just makes the screen a whole lot thicker than it has to be.

yah I agree, thats what i was partly trying to say in my comment , that its retarded in this context , but the bendy buttons or having bending of the screen as navigation might prove to be usfull in some other format rather than used in a clone of what a current smart phone is.

obvously in this case the bending is redundent to this device and a hinderance but maby bending the screen to navigate might be benoficail in other devices or for other uses where a capacative screen or tuch screen might not work ,

as another brain wave , people waring thick gloves or working in environments with lots of vibration for example would benefit from having this type of navigation and physical interface , underwater repair divers, sky divers , astranorts doing space walks , people with hutchinsons or late stage parkinsons might be able to use this to navigate complex menues. that sort of thing.

Top 10 Reasons to be Interested in Guild Wars 2

Eh... composed music is overrated. One of my favorite aspects of WoW, even moreso in BC was the ambient noise. The sound was damn near experimental but always felt rock solid along with the art direction. I liked the new Cataclysm content for 1-60 but after burning through the 80-85 bit I'm done with WoW, forever. I will always fondly look upon the years I played it on and off.

GW2 looks great and I'll definitely get it - but seriously, we need to get back to basics. Forget WoW for a second and let's make a virtual world, remember one of the first MMO's Ultima Online? Yeah, we need to revisit something on that scope in 3D. Do you remember how much more was possible in UO than in 99% of these shite MMOs? I used to walk upon entire PC run cities, I used to have a two story house by a productive mine, I used to live there! I used to have ship battles with many other people. One time I stole a rival guild's ship that was filled to the brim with weapons and armor and unloaded it to guildmates in a port outside of another city.

WoW is an amazing game but people have to realize that it isn't necessarily that WoW recycled all of it's elements from elsewhere... it did so with so much style and balance (not so sure if that balance is still there). Blizzard are king's of gameplay mechanics of which they have many armchair critics. I think probably that they are always changing the mechanics to always make the game feel like the gameplay is changing because it is the only way to make the game feel like it is a tad different because obviously, the player has no impact on the world of Azeroth. It is original in the way it tackled many MMO problems. But, stop trying to mimic it, it's a losing battle. Zones were cool in WoW, but the other original MMO UO was a full on virtual world. That is where we need to go again. If someone wants to get rid of their old armor and set it on the ground, they should be able to do so. If they want to build a vendor outside of the city, they should be able to do that. If they want to explore the open seas - they should be able to do that. If they want to try to pickpocket a PC or a NPC's wares... If they want to set portals to certain areas attached to a rune... fully customizable gear... Where are you Lord British, hiding in your castle? For the most part MMOs are a terribly, shitty waste of time and money.

PRE-ORDER THIS AND GET AN EXPANSION!
The game isn't even finished, and you're doing an expansion separately? How about instead of conning your audience into buying your wares, how about you just make the fucking thing worth buying in the first place? So few games are worth the cost of entry. I wish publishers would start letting their devs actually FINISH GAMES.

Yeah, you're spot on, especially putting it on the publisher. I think DICE takes alot more crap than they deserve; they've put out great games for a long time and always support their product compared to most other companies. A lot of folks view it as not enough, but you can't make all the people happy all the time. With the exception of BF43 and BFBC1 I've bought all the BF titles and haven't regretted a single one.

EA... on the other hand....

Sounds really good

they look like right tits singing it there will be so much unsubstantiated bullshit associated with this typ of singing , waring specif clothes , formal rehearsals , and most likely forcing them to only sing classical songs or songs with a religious context.

( i dont have a problem with having people doign the classical stuff and waring the uniforms in general its just thats all you realy see , and then when sumone deviates from that its only in a usa has tellent have people brake dancing and slap an electro beat on it obvouse kind of way , rather than a natural development of the ganra. )

Wow, that sounds efficient.>> ^CaveBear:

Yea, I guess my Windows machines are all pretty safe from infection these days. Since they crash all the time I mostly leave them turned off. It's hard to infect a machine that is turned off.
And I'm a professional software developer who's shipped millions of Windows products! I write all my software on a Mac and then just port it to windows in the end.

What Freedom Means to Libertarians (Philosophy Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

>> ^blankfist:

Anyhow, I'm not sure what you mean by privately owned public spaces. That sounds like a lot of doublespeak. Sure, you have to pay property taxes so there's the argument that you never truly own your land, but if you purchase land to build a company on it, it's not technically public. It's private. Like your home.

But it's not private like my home. My home is in a residential area, and is clearly a living space, not a space meant for conducting business. Even if my door wasn't locked, it would be highly irregular for someone to just walk in my front door unannounced without my explicit permission, and started looking through my belongings.

If I owned a store, it would be in a commercial area, and clearly labeled as a store. The door would be unlocked, and it would be fully expected that people would be permitted to walk in the front door without waiting for my explicit permission, and they would be free to peruse the wares on display.

Those are two totally different situations, with completely different rules of etiquette, and with largely different laws.

This is not even getting into the idea that there are so many fundamental services that we rely on that are (rightfully) provided by private businesses, and should be made available to everyone regardless of race, group, or class...like food.

>> ^blankfist:
If some racist asshole wants to buy land and open a racist grocery store, then so be it. I doubt you'd fine many people visiting that shop, because this isn't 1950s Alabama.
It's his property, he can do with it as he pleases pretty much. If he wants to open a "blacks only" grocery store, it wouldn't be fair for the white guy next door to stop him. You're wrong if you think you have a right to dictate what goes on in private spaces when no one is being aggressed against.

How about a "No Muslims" sign? How about a "No latinos" sign? How about a "No gays" sign? This might not be 1950's Alabama, but the US of 2010 isn't a paragon of virtue either.

Personally, I think it's totally fair to stop people from doing this. The object of these signs are being "aggressed against", they're having their freedom constrained, not because of something they've done wrong, or even had any choice about, but because of who they are.

I'm all for the right to "discriminate" on the basis of individual behavior and merit, but prejudice like that is morally wrong.
