Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin "Je t'aime... Moi non plus"

calvados says...

(English below)

Je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh, mon amour...
comme la vague irrésolu
je vais, je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
et je me retiens

je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh mon amour...
tu es la vague, moi l'île nue
tu va, tu va et tu viens
entre mes reins
tu vas et tu viens
entre mes reins
et je te rejoins

je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh, mon amour...
comme la vague irrésolu
je vais, je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
et je me retiens

tu va, tu va et tu viens
entre mes reins
tu vas et tu viens
entre mes reins
et je te rejoins

je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh mon amour...
l'amour physique est sans issue
je vais, je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
je vais et je viens
et je me retiens
Non! Maintenant viens!

=====

I love you, I love you, Oh yes I love you
Nor do I
Oh my love
Like the wave, irresolute
I go, I go and I come, Inside you my love
I go and I come, Inside you my love
And then I hold on

I love you, I love you, Oh Yes I love you
Nor do I
You are the wave, And I the naked island
You go, you go and you come, inside me me love
you go and you come inside me my love
and then we are one

I love you, I love you, Oh yes I love you
Nor do I
Oh my love
Like the wave, irresolute
I go, i go and I come, Inside you my love
I go and I come, Inside you my love
And then I hold on

I love, I love you my love, Inside me my love
I love you my love, Deep inside me my love
And then we are one

I love you, I love you, Oh yes I love
Nor do I
Oh my love
Physical love is a dead end
I go, I go and I come, Inside you my love
I go and I come
And I hold on

No. Now...come

Jacques Brel - Le Moribond

antimatter says...

(Chorus)

here is a (fairly close) translation:

The Dying Man

Goodbye, Emile, you were my good friend
Goodbye, Emile, you were my good friend, you know
We sang together of the same great wines
We sang together of the same great women
We sang together of our shared sorrows
Goodbye, Emile, I'm going to die
It's difficult to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with peace in my heart
Because I know that you are a good man, good as white bread
You'll take care of my wife after I'm gone

(Chorus)
I want everyone to laugh
I want everyone to dance
I want everyone to party like a bunch of fools
I want everyone to laugh
I want everyone to dance
When they come to put me in my grave

Goodbye, Father Priest, I liked you well enough
Goodbye, Father Priest, I liked you well enough, you know
We weren't always on the same side
We didn't always take the same path
But we were both looking for Heaven just the same
Goodbye, Father Priest, I'm going to die
It's hard to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with peace in my heart
Because you were her Confessor
I know you'll take care of my wife when I'm gone
(Chorus)

Goodbye, Tony, I didn't like you too much
Goodbye, Tony, I didn't like you too much, you know
It's killing me to be dying today
While you are so vigorous and full of life
And stronger even than boredom itself
Goodbye, Tony, I'm going to die
It's hard to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with peace in my heart
Because you were her Lover
I know you'll take care of my wife when I'm gone
(Chorus)

Goodbye, my wife, I love you still
Goodbye, my wife, I love you still, you know
But I'm taking that trip to see the Good Lord today
I'm taking the trip before you do
But we all take that trip when we must
Goodbye, my wife, I'm going to die
It's hard to die in the Spring, you know
But I'm going to the flowers with my eyes closed, once more
And because I closed them so many times before
I know you'll take good care of my heart
(Chorus)

Love ? by Strapping Young Lad

Devin Townsend is one of the most fantastic singer I've ever heard. I only know him through his work with Steve Vai on Sex and Religion. I'm not really into heavier stuff, but that song was fantastic, love it!

I have a real soft spot for Roy. There are lots of great 'technical' guitar players (Malmstein, vai, satriani). There are also a fair share of great 'musical' guitar players (Hendrix, Gilmour, Clapton). But Roy was the rarest combination of both. A one of a kind that didn't and doesn't get his due.

In reply to this comment by snoozedoctor:
Sofa,
What indeed is wrong with these people. I guess I'm getting too old and jaded. I long for bygone days of real musicians playing real songs with real instruments. Anyone can set a loop to play over and over and monotone some poetry over it. On the other hand, very few can make smoke rise from the frets of a Tele as it screams the blues of a lonely and neglected heart. Am I waxing too poetic here? I think I'm off the deep end in despair over this.

Guitar Duel from Crossroads

acl123 says...

Actually the ending piece that wins the duel is not Steve Vai's composition really, it's Paganini. The piece is ironic in some ways - Steve Vai represents Paganini and the classical school whilst Ralph represents Robert Johnson, yet Ralph wins by playing a Paganini piece that he must have learned in Juilliard.

Ralph does a great job at fake guitar playing in this movie, by the way. I wonder if he actually turned out to be a decent player after all the training he must have gone through.

I watched this movie the other day, really enjoyable, I didn't even realize it was the Karate Kid, though he did look oddly familiar.

Steve Vai as a young schmuck was enjoyable to watch as well

Incredible guitar solo by Deep Purple's Steve Morse

CaBhaal says...

Though I am not sure I would label him as "best guitarist" as suggested by the tags, he is extremely talented. He was invited to play among some of the world's greatest guitarists on Steve Vai's Christmas album "Merry Axemas". His rendition of "Joy to the World" sits comfortably with offerings from the likes of Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck and Alex Lifeson.

Thanks for posting.

Guitar master Steve Vai awesome solo

ObsidianStorm says...

Hey - that was hilarious and to post it any other way would be to rob it of its "surprise" (and thus humorous) value.

I was fooled too, until I saw the guy in the background playing drums which you obviously couldn't hear.

It was just funny to see Vai (who is really amazing) crapping out this pathetic "solo" with such conviction.
