Woman's front yard cactus suddenly shoots up 25 feet

Donkey shin!

I like PBS documentaries. I can’t recall if “The bat man of Mexico” was a NOVA episode or a one of (I checked, it was a Nature episode- https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/about-bat-man-mexico/25220/), but I’m pretty sure that’s where I learned that bit of useless trivia. He tracked the bats by making their poop glow!

I am completely useless for remembering people’s names, and barely hit and miss with dates, but useless information sticks OK.

Of useless trivia? Shoulda been. ;-)
I'm a retired welder, now semi-broken house husband.
I went to California Jr colleges for over 10 years with no real direction because they're cheap and I like to learn stuff.

I....did....not....know...that. Seems I learn something with every comment you make.

Are you a professional teacher?

Stupid People+Simple Questions=Face:Palm

i think the objection is the implication that not knowing something equates to stupidity. You could pick any subject that is seemly simple or fundamental - such as the flags of the world, currencies - all that crap I was forced to memorise at school rather than understanding WHY we have different currencies etc.

Your strawman of london in britain is not a useful example and I hope I don't have to explain why.

>>all information is useless trivia
where on earth did that come from? I'm just saying that the ocean is one big body of water and memorising the different demarcations them is not actually very useful to most people. If you know it then good on you but if you don't - you are not by definition stupid.

For the record. I was taught Antarctic Ocean not southern so i would have failed according this silly man

Lets say for a minute here that you are right. If someone lives in London, its useless to know that they also live in Britain? Humans have the best developed brains on Earth, and your saying that all information is useless trivia, unless it correlates to someone's little bubble of daily life?

WOW, I am gonna go forget everything I know...

These videos are pretty stupid. Geography is largely irrelevant to most people's lives and therefore qualifies as trivia. It's like asking someone how many bytes are in a kilobyte or how many bits are in a byte except that's actually relevant since knowing those things will help you see past the marketing BS of ISPs and hard drive makers.

Different people know different things and someone isn't automatically "stupid" because they don't know random facts that serve no purpose in their occupations or daily lives.

I'm KP's illegitimate stepson, who knows too much about useless trivia, and is a bit too interested in serial killers. I'm the guy who is so cynical and sarcastic, that he can no longer participate in a meaningful manner whenever the conversation turns serious.

Oh, and KP, you still owe me ten bucks for that 8ball. And don't steal the money from Mom's purse again.

Doc_M & snoozedoctor: For all you do, this blood's for you

Doc_M says...

I'm research not treatment, but thanks for the shout-out. and nice vid. Appropriately though, my last job was as a clinical hematology assistant. Useless trivia: A Coulter cell-counter can count 10,000 blood cells in less than one minute and check all the following:
Number AND SIZE AND CLUMPING of red cells
Number AND [sorta] CLOTTING of platelets
Number AND TYPE of white cells (there are a crapload of types of white cells)

And if anything is wrong, it can MAKE a slide of the sample for you so you can look at it yourself and see it. Robots ftw.

When you get your blood drawn, they often check all this... in one minute. In our department (10 people) in our company we did a thousand a day.

Man do I wish I could get rid of that dang underscore. Someone already had "Doc".

Panorama - Is TV Bad for My Kids ?

choggie says...

aw gorillaman, raising hackles eh??? Like most kids, perhaps, during that time, chog hadda shit load of TV....probly watched it berfore 2 yrs old too, hence the fucking attention span of a goddamn gnat....It did not take long, to figure it out, nor years of controlled studies by experts, and their results.....yeah, should have fucking been taught to gather information from books better, tv and ignorant parents, played a part....such is the draw-luck.........

Can tell you, your ideas about each successive generation, blah blah blah???? In America, its just the fucking opposite....they get stoopider, more passive aggressive, and more dependent upon their keepers than the previous ones...wouldn't call that more intelligent....would call that a fucking tragedy.....No, they become a worthless storehouse of useless trivia, which makes them appear smart, to other idgits who have come out of our completely FUCKED, university systems.......So....all you 20 somethings??? Get yer degree, work hard at being "smarter" and maybe the next time your ass is filled by your head, you can have the presence of mind, to extricate it......

One more piece of useless trivia to add; KLF stands for kopyright liberation front, so feel free to download all of their MP3s.

I have this as a 12" single, same car on the cover, but I'd never seen the Video. Thanks for the post!

I'm gonna go off and try and find a link to "Justified and Ancient" now.

Voyagers! (1980s time travel show)

swampgirl says...

I forgot this show even existed! I'm getting old.

Bit of useless trivia for ya... the star of this show, Jon-Eric Hexum, accidentally killed himself on the set of "Cover Up" (I think that was the name of the show)

As a joke, He put a prop gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Little did he realize that the force from the powder blast from it would blow a chunk of skull the size of a quarter into his brain.

On that cheerful note, have a great day sifters!
