I'm at the airport now, but it might work on my swing back through on the way to Oz on the 27th. em>>> ^blankfist:
@dag, how long are you in town? If you're here for a bit, there are probably some straggler LA Sifters that may be up for an unofficial Siftup in LA (we spit on OC, ptooey!) if you're still in Man Beach.

How often are you in So. CA?

He comes through once every year, leaves a piece of candy on my pillow, then flies off with a wink and a nod. He calls out to all the children, "Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning."

He's not Santa.

Ha, I like OC better than LA even though I live and work in LA County. I live between them so the commutes aren't too bad. I just don't and can't drive due to my disabilities.

Why are you always making me sad?

Texas State Senator "Why aren't you speaking English"

messenger says...

I'm insulted. You must speak English. If you don't, Videosift will simply cease to exist.

And you have the gall not to bring an interpreter!>> ^mxxcon:

>> ^smooman:
while i certainly dont think speaking the "unofficial" language of america should be a requirement for citizenship, it does say something about the individual who has lived in the states for two decades and still cannot speak english conversationally.
similarly it would be foolish of me to move to mexico (or any non english speaking country for that matter), live, work, and commute for 20 years and still not be able to speak enough spanish to have a conversation with a native
if you ask me, theyre both assholes

Возможно, он может говорить по-английски достаточно хорошо, но не очень хорошо и красноречиво достаточно, чтобы выступить перед сенаторами.

NSFW thumbnail censoring (Controversy Talk Post)

residue says...

The problem with that is twofold:
A: I don't want to restrict anyone's right to advertise their video however they like.
B: You run into the problem of just sort of hoping people adhere to unofficial guidelines. To actually enforce a rule like "no NSFW thumbnails" there has to be some sort of repercussion for disobeying the rule, which I don't like.

I think people should be able to post whatever they like and let the community decide if it should be visible to the general populous, I just also feel like it would be appropriate to give people an option to filter such content out according to preference without being completely oblivious to it.

>> ^bareboards2:

Why not just change the image of the thumbnail so someone walking by won't be upset? I want to be able to see NSFW videos, but it would be nice if the thumbnails are SFW.
Then you don't have to do this little dance of changing preferences depending on time of day.

What is a dupe? (User Poll by blankfist)

It might be useful to refer to the posting guidelines:

A duplicate video is one which contains content already on VideoSift in a published, queued, personal queued, or dead video submission. Minor changes in content, like a few additional insignificant seconds of video or alternate background music, will still be considered dupes. The only exception to this is if the change in audio makes a significant difference to the video content.

My unofficial opinion on excerpts is that they are dupes. Of course there are outliers. If we had a 2 hour documentary posted, and someone posted a 1 minute scene - then that doesn't feel very dupey to me. The difficulty is determining what percentage of an excerpt / main post ratio would be acceptable.

Joy Behar Interviews Jesse Ventura (Fun)

Jinx says...

I dunno about in the US, but in the UK the unofficial "none of the above" box is to tick every box on the paper. I do it when i vote but people often ask me why I bother going to the polls if I am just going to mess the paper...but they almost all wish there was a real 3rd/4th/etc option. Funny that.
