johnald128 says...

Ukelele Ike (1929)

deputydog says...

'Cliff Edwards (14 June 1895 – 17 July 1971), also known as "Ukelele Ike", was an American singer and musician who enjoyed considerable popularity in the 1920s and early 1930s, and also did voices for animated cartoons later in his career.

In 1939 Edwards played the character "Edicott" in the screwball comedy film His Girl Friday. Edwards voice was also featured in two other films that year; he voiced the dying Confederate soldier in Gone with the Wind, and, most famously, the character Jiminy Cricket in Walt Disney's Pinocchio. In 1941, he voiced the head crow in Disney's Dumbo.'

I love this performance.

Hey, can we get links to the videosift.com for each video?
At the bottom of the comment listing there's a link back to the post here on VS.

It was very interesting watching the cabal members vote for videos without any idea of how everyone else was voting. I was kind of but not really surprised Jake's ukelele video wasn't higher rated because it's really great but there is a lot of resentment for his immovable kung fu grip on the #1 slot here.

Lucky - It is nice to know that they are all unique users, but I still have a problem with all of the zero contributions and one vote accounts on this list.

I can certainly foresee a situation where I could post an AI video and go on all of the American Idol forums and make up a story urging people to register and vote for magical ClayAiken-bot AI performance b/c VS is now tied to the AI voting in some way.

We may or may not get a hit of unique users one-voting for ClayAiken-bot. And there it would sit near the top. . .when the majority of the actively participating members would really want to have nothing to do with it.

Jake's performance is transcendent, but I believe that the vote total is fluffed by far too many single-vote voters or people who registered only to vote here for Jake from the urging of a Jake or ukelele forum.

And even if a user is a once-a-month lurker, then they should have voted more than once at this point. There are posts just as amazing as Jake at this point.

Top Hundred Videos of 2006 (Sift Talk Post)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

After we have all the nominations, there will be a round of voting to narrow down the nominations to the top 100, and rank them accordingly.

You're probably thinking, "well, why don't we just give it to Mr. Ukelele and go home." But that's not really fair. He's been on since February and has had a long time to accumulate votes. This will put all the nominations on an even footing, and allow us to double sift the best of the best.

When we have the top 100, We're going to display them, ranked - in a different format than regular Sifts - and make a big noise about it. This could mean a largish amount of press for these videos, (and for us ;-) ).

We want to make this a yearly event - someday we might even have real awards.

I thought my platinum star was above those gold ones... and I dunno about this "Top Hundred" thing when the whole purpose here is for voting up the best videos... except surely Mr. Jake and his ukelele wont win the top spot, which I for one applaud.

lol...that's perfect! ("Vermillion" always makes me think of the vermicious knids. ) Instead of colors, though, it would be funny to have thumbnails from popular videosifts...like the ukelele guy is "everything is smooth" down to the big electric thing sparking.

But you'd have to get the mahna mahna in there...just so we could think, "The queue is at mahna mahna! I'd better start sifting!"

I shouldn't drink so much coffee.
