PS5 Demo

Digitalfiend says...

I was wondering if this had made it here yet. Mind... completely... blown. As a UE4 / ZBrush tinkerer, the thought of just being able to bring in ZBrush sculpts directly into the engine, without worrying about decimation mastering, just...wow. The use of cinematic quality Quixel textures/materials is astounding as well. They've really outdone themselves this time. The fact this is running on a PS5 is pretty awesome too. I can only imagine the games we're going to see over the next 4-5 years; indie developers/artists are going to absolutely love this engine. I think Unity might need to step up its game.

If you have the specs necessary to run it, you can download it and play it for yourself here. Warning: it's huge (over 7GB)

This project was an experiment to see how much geometry and textures we could push in UE4 on modern PC hardware, and as a result, it is fairly system intensive. We recommend 16GB of RAM and at least an Nvidia GTX760 or AMD equivalent as the minimum requirements.

For more fluid frame-rate, and/or screen resolutions above 1920x1080 we recommend at least an Nvidia GTX970, or AMD equivalent or higher (2GB of VRAM for Low texture settings / 3GB for Medium texture settings / 4GB for High texture settings / 6GB or higher for EPIC texture settings)

Also, Terrain displacement is a very system heavy feature. Please note that enabling this feature on a GPU slower than an Nvidia GTX980 Ti may cause a significant drop in frame-rate.

here's how I see it:

UE4 -- runs well, does well, good for creators
CryEngine -- does well, runs like crap, all-in for visuals.
Frostbite -- does well, runs okay, great in FPS, completely junk in driving games (look up NFS: The Run)
Source 2 -- who knows...
Unity 5 -- can't comment.

Goosebumps... pure, fucking goosebumps when he pulled out and showed he was still in the editor.

Somewhere in the past in the developement of UE4...
"Holy Crap, that Crytek WYSIWYG editor was fucking awesome."

Yah, they've been doing that since Far Cry 1 (2004).

These tech demos look beautiful, but do not represent what's known as real-time performance.

When you add in all the code for things like AI and all the other stuff, you end up being unable to render scenes like this.

I for one am tired of UE3 and want UE4 to come out. I know it won't, though, because Epic is probably focused on the console market.
