The Present

I used to have a tripod dog, he lost his front leg around 1 year old and got to adopt him because of the accident. Best dog I've ever had (of many) and he ran so damn fast that people didn't know until he stopped!

Yeah but he drinks that after he's already walked in to the room. Everything was plainly insight immediately entering the house, the boxes are every where, the camera is sitting on a tripod in the middle for the room.

Not to mention the very nature of idly accepting a photo of two people fucking in the face of "customer service". Feel it might of been better to have the photo he gives over cropped with perhaps a subtle hint of a few arms. Then leave the larger photo on the kitchen bench, letting human curiosity sneak a peak.

You can only chalk so much up to the drugging, still have to put a little effort in believability. Good concept but fell flat for me on the details.

I'm not an expert, but I've shot a lot of rifles and have some gun-nut friends. Basically, NO, that isn't a normal posture. However, it seems quite effective for her.

She is basically using the shelf of her pelvis as the "ground" point of her elbow, almost like the function of a tripod if you were going to shoot while prone. That isn't normal, but then her hand position on that arm is even weirder -- she is propping up the rifle with what looks like middle and ring fingers making a "v" shape, then pointer just in front of the trigger guard, and thumb on the trigger guard / lever. Very very weird -- in general most people would put that hand further out along the barrel and just grasp the wood there. That would normally be more effective because the wider the distance between the contact points with your hands, the more steady and fine your aim can be. BUT, she obviously knows what she is doing and is using the stability provided by resting her arm on her pelvis to overcome that. She's a way better shot than me, so I wouldn't classify any of what I've said as "criticism", just noting that she does certainly have an unusual style.

By sound and size, the rifle is probably a .22. A .22 that size can be quite light, which would work well with her style of holding the weapon. I'd imagine that trying that with a bigger rifle, especially with a longer barrel, would be uncomfortably heavy on the fingers she is using to prop up the weapon. Plus, higher calibers would kick enough to necessitate actually grasping the forestock instead of just resting it on fingertips.

Even when I was warned against kick and barrel-rise when shooting an AR-15 (basically an M-16), the first time surprised me how much the weapon will jolt upward on rapidly fired shots unless you are ready to compensate for it...

impressive shooting!

question for someone who knows about such things: is her posture normal for shooting a rifle? at 1:15 and 2:09 she seems to be arching her back backward with her hip forward. It looks really unnatural.

I disagree on the tilt-shift lens (I own one, by the way) - I just think they used a fast wide-aperture lens - they just used it at full aperture and changed the plane of focus back and forth. This is just the simple effect of adjusting the focus. On the shots where everything was in focus they stopped down to get everything sharp.
On the low depth of field shots the camera and lens pivot on a fixed tripod, and you wouldn't get any perspective changes - the camera does not move.
I'm guessing that this was shot with a 70-200/2.8, which is capable of some rather low DoF shots when focused close like this.

I think you're on the right track but have it backwards.

I think they were flat sheets the whole time but they're using a tilt-shift lens during the zoom shot to simulate depth of field and make it look like parts of the object are further away.

On the first one, the globe, there is writing on the sheet of paper "under" the globe, yet the perspective never changes; we never see a little bit more of the writing peek out or get obscured as the camera pans around. I'm sure we'd have seen a little bit of this if it were a real object.

Then why does the camera stop moving every time they go to show the 'illusion'?

The zoom in, out of focus, shot is done with live objects, the camera goes stationary on a tripod and they line everything up for the 2D, paper version, then, cut from one shot to the other and it looks seamless. It's a very old trick.

Someone asked about the ferris wheel shots on Vimeo:

DAMPDESIGN 1 week ago

thanks chris! In the ferris wheel I placed the camera's on a tripod close to the window. 1 shot per sec.

The other shots that looked like crane shots were most likely well chosen vantage points... and one looked like riding an escalator in the shopping centre.

Fun note here: the missile launcher on the tripod towards the end is 'wire' guided and you can see the wire unspooling. It is attached to the missile all the way until impact to steer it.
