This stems from a comment I left on a video that Ant queued.
I was going to put it up as a link on a SiftTalk, but before I did Thylan wrote back to me saying "I'd be up for that link." To which I responded in a PM to him: "Only if you post to sift talk and say "I'm a Trekkie! Picard FTW! (and gave him the link)"
I wasn't really serious about it, but it's here anyway, And I know I got a laugh out of it.

It's been quite some time since I stopped being a real trekkie but this brings back a lot of good memories. Especially the music, I must've forgotten the story of most of the TNG episodes but "The Inner Light" still stands out for being one of the best and deepest episodes of the whole series.

I heard on some tv show that Trekkie fans responded to Takei's coming out by saying "That's okay, we've never been with a woman either!"

It's the universal appeal, man....like Camp David for those who agree, that eating is a vital part of dinner!

The "Star Trek nerd" defending Captain Picard's statue is actually one - he was featured in the Trek documentary Trekkies and its sequel.

And word has it Kristen "Veronica Mars" Bell dons the Leia bikini at some point during the movie - that's worth the price of admission alone.

The number one rule (well maybe like number 13) is that shields always get weaker when hit with laser beams. Look at StarTrek, StarWars, StarGate, Babylon, etc. So my theory is that enough giant guns would eventually bring down the shields. (Maybe they could slice up Galactica in that time)... Also, StarGate uses rail guns and they whomp the hell out of ships with shields. Technically, I guess Picard could beam out everyone on the bridge of Galactica.

I only found out about Avenue Q during a roadtrip to Sacramento, CA. That's a 10 hour ride from where I live so we had plenty of time to listen to the whole musical (which was really good, incidentally). The girl who put the CD on just said, "hey, I totally love this; you will, too."

Musicals aren't really my thing but all of the songs are terribly clever and genuinely funny. Realization dawned about halfway through the CD when I heard this song, and then everything snapped into focus as I thought, "but wait, this song's from a musical? I always thought this song sounded a little too polished and had a few overly oblique references, (e.g., "Come down here, Trekkie"), to be an amateur production."

I hope to see the production some day. Too bad i don't live a little closer to NY or London. :-)

I get pretty tired of the Shatner joke, an old one-trick pony. What's nice to see is his sense of humor about it, as he pokes fun of himself, as well as his audience. He picked up pomo self-referential humor and it's fun to see him play with it. (Notice he makes a crack near the beginning of the clip, about loving Star Trek conventions -- a direct reference to the pummeling he took when he did a skit mocking Trekkies on SNL, yelling at them to GET A LIFE.)

dammit... thats supposed to be darth sidious is the credits... there is no sithious... this means it was done by a Trekkie!!!

other than that, a rather well made vid. a little choppy in some parts, but that is to be expected from a mash up.
