As one who works for a top 10 global mega company and whose stock is 1/2 of what it was a year ago, this makes me wonder.

I was expecting one of those top 10 countdown bullshit things, and this was so much better.

I actually only saw Coco a few days ago, after the video was done. It wouldn't have made my top 10 even if I had, though -- I quite enjoyed it, but I'd rank it somewhere in the middle of Pixar's filmography (though if I had a list of the top 10 movies of 2017 that made me weep like a little girl, it'd be right up there).

Great year for movies. Loved Dunkirk and Baby Driver. Also loved the new Blade Runner but it doesn't surprise me when it is missing from people's top 10.

Explain to me why some generic 2-minute DJ tune deserve the Top 10.

true romance is in my top 10 as well,and i didn't even see in the theaters.the trailers didn't grab me and the marketing was utter shit.

i saw it when i lived in miami at the time,and my roommate and i were having a party and i just happened to have HBO on at the time,and i remember seeing the opening credits:chrisitan slater,val kilmer,christopher walken,dennis hopper

and i was like...how the fuck did i not hear about this movie?

so i started watching,and even as people started showing up..i couldn't stop watching.in fact half the party ended up in my living room watching true romance with me,while rest stayed out in the patio and got drunk.

yep..i know how to throw a shindig.

Arrival was indeed pretty great -- if this were a top 20, or even a top 15, it would have been on there for sure. I just couldn't squeeze it in to my top 10.

That's just my point though. It would be easy to stop Trump from turning the US into a fascist dictatorship.

But...

The people you're tasking with stopping him are the people who would benefit the most from his reign. There are some idealists in Senate/Congress, but most of them are not Republicans. Don't you think OTHER countries which became failed states/dictatorships had laws and procedures to prevent one person from seizing power? 'Cause I can tell you for a fact, many of them did, many of them had systems far more robust than the United States has.

Fundamentally, the United States is no longer a truly democratic country. It hasn't been for decades, but things have progressed to the point where calling yourselves a 'democracy' is a joke to the rest of the world.

There's a good graph out there that shows how democratic the US is. It maps popularity of a law against the likelihood of the law being passed. If 0% of the people support the law, it has a 30 percent chance of being passed, at 100% support, it has a 30% chance of being passed. Re-run the graph for top 10%ers and 0 support is 0 chance, 100% is 61%.
