Dag, go find an old submitted video (e.g., a year old is a good age) that has not been bumped to the front page with less nine votes. Vote it up to ten votes so it can be go to the front page. However, it is not on the front page. It is buried on page #<whatever number beside 1>.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Official Teaser Trailer

Isn't someone back for Vengeance every time? Wasn't this the same as the first remake and the last of the TNG movies as well? Come on people, I want some hard sci fi like the series.

The series were much better than the movies, because they could calm down for a second.

The TNG movies were doing this already, badly. At least the new ones are good action movies. But I do know what you mean. Looks like we'll never see the old style Star Trek of the TV series, anymore

I dunno about this... On one hand it's Star Trek, which is awesome. On the other it's another over the top sci-fi action movie.

I didn't mind the new one, but I kinda miss TNG themes of a more peaceful exploration of universes unknown. I think Roddenberry would gag on his own vomit if he saw this. It's not unique SciFi anymore, it's just the usual really well-done hollywood tripe.

Well maybe I need a few drinks to really respond to your argument properly, but I'll do my best while sober

I think it's a bug and a coincidence. I was really talking about phones and other embedded devices rather than laptops, but you have a point that it's kinda similar here.

Here's the thing though: Win8 is so different to win7 and vista that Microsoft would be taking a huge risk if they tried to make people switch to it before they got used to the change. Given that people will have to re-learn a whole lot of stuff (or install classic shell) anyway, what's to stop them looking around and buying a macbook air, or installing Ubuntu on their old laptop?

Look, I readily concede that your way is possible, but it just doesn't seem terribly likely to sober me (drunk me could have a different opinion, but I wouldn't listen to him if I were you).

Hang on a sec - what your saying is old unsupported devices - such as a 4 year old Windows Vista 7 laptop have a best version. So why, JUST NOW, right when win8 is around the corner are the automatic updates which are enabled on every new PC restricting my dad's functionality?

This isn't a case of his installed the latest win8 beta (he has not surprisingly as he was in IT for 30 years - but it's in a separate boot partition and runs all of his usb functions perfectly). This is an update to vista 32 bit drivers which has lessoned his functionally roughly a month before win8 comes out.

Could be a bug, could be a coincidence. Could be microsoft are shaking the tree just enough to make people question if they need the new OS.

Lets take a couple more points of view - you've probably seen the start trek TNG vs special edition videos where the original footage looked WAY worse than what was aired originally. If not maybe your a gamer? Notice how blizzard are preparing "Titan" for launch (new mmo) whilst at the same time releasing a kung-fu panda expansion for wow whilst addressing none of the failings Guild Wars 2 has highlighted.

It pays for companies to make their old products look obsolete whilst retaining their brand loyalty

Sorry for rant - had a few to drink.

Since the update introduced an unwelcome new feature and you had to roll back, you're kinda supporting my point actually : Every old unsupported device has one "best" version, and it's not always the newest one.

Microsoft say Oct 26 for Win 8, but you'd have to look at the machine specs to see if an upgrade is possible. The interface changes haven't been welcomed by all, either.

Quite a few people hold back on new windows releases until the teething issues have been ironed out... so win 7 is looking good at this point.
In reply to this comment by zaust:
You say that but I was round at my dads today and he'd had to roll back his Vista laptop to an earlier backup because the latest "updates" meant it no longer had the USB resources to run both his printer and scanner. When's Win 8 out again?

Children of the Corn

Yeah, we can argue fair use all day with small or even longer clips from things, but when we have something in its entirety, it's hard to argue it, especially since we have our own self-censoring on that particular issue.

I remember a stream of the entirety of Star Trek TNG was posted a while back, but that's sort of an weird case, since it's a stream.

I also remember lots of ye olde filme that's been posted, but once we go over a certain time and enter the abandonware time, the rules get a little more lax.

Tom Hardy "StarTrek" screentest vs actual scene

artician says...

Nemesis was an embarrassment. Primarily because whoever wrote the screenplay (I believe Brent Spiner had a lot of influence on it or even wrote it himself), they wanted to recreate the Wrath of Khan for TNG era. It was completely, obviously a failed attempt to harken back to the blockbuster day of Star Trek film, and was so amateurishly crafted that it was obviously a thinly veiled rewrite of ST2's plot in a TNG skin. You did well to avoid it.

Star Trek TNG Bluray Old Vs New - Unbelievable Difference

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

They should really start with seasons that don't suck if they expect to generate interest from fans.

Mostly this. In actuality, all of the Rick Berman Star Trek seasons (from TNG to Enterprise) have good episodes and very BAD episodes in them. Season one was predominantly the bad episodes, but there were a few really good ones in it. By season two the balance shifted and it was about 50/50 good/bad episodes. Then by season 3 they hit their stride and it was mostly good episodes with only a few bad ones here and there.

But yeah, if they really want this to fly they should have started with Season 3. I really hope that they keep this up because I'd love to get Deep Space Nine in Blu-Ray, but I don't expect the effort will sustain that long. They are charging and arm and a leg for Star Trek seasons, and I'm just not willing to pay more than 30 to 40 bucks a season for ANY show.
