bad titling and time zone bias: Troubling the Sift since 2007®

I'm with you. Videos should all show the original time they were published. If you're only going to show one time, that should be it. If you need to decide on a time zone they should all use, then go military and make them all zulu time.

I'm 8 hours away, but it's straight up - so almost the same time zone. It's 10 AM now - Santa came. I got a corn popper. Mainly I think because I make a huge mess in the kitchen by doing it the pan way.

ABBA featured heavily in kids' stockings- and I broke down and got Spore for everyone. I know it's been panned by critics - but it makes a pretty good kids' game. It was either that or Left 4 Dead - my partner thought it would be "inappropriate" for an 8 year old. jeesh.

UTC / GMT is the only way to go.

Alternatively, the internal server time could be displayed differently for each user, such that I would see it as GMT+1, and someone else saw it as CST, while the server internally could use an arbitrary time zone, as long as it's the same for everything.

^I see your point, but I think a time zone chooser would only add to the confusion. If I chose one time zone for my time stamp and you chose another, then one of us would have to convert our time to the other's in a dupe dispute, and the whole reason we're doing this is to simplify things, not make it more difficult.

We don't have to use Pacific time, mind you. I really don't care which one we use, as long as we're all using the same one. How about UTC?

That's good in theory, but Pacific time is kind of inconvenient for all us sifters on the other side of the world. Some of us are not used to living in countries stretched out over several time zones. Maybe it's possible to add a time zone chooser to the account settings, so everyone can see their local time on videos?

I live in Alaska, the outage was 47 hrs in this time zone!

I think my absence with no new videos and only a few pathetic attemps to beg a few oldies during the last week make up for being a vote-magnet for a bit =)

Finland was gray and rainy, though it is still wonderful! I ate too much rye bread and chocolate and weird Finnish foods I love. I bought only a purse and a pair of shoes and well, .. chocolate and candy and shoehorns and towels and glassware and ..

Otherwise, it went well, and I am back ALIVE! No plane crashes! And I am not sleeping, because atm I am in some strange mid-atlantic time zone between Finnish time and EST. Loopy, tired, will have a blact tomorrow at work unless I manage to get a good nights' sleep tonight.

Amnd World of Warcraft did a majot patch during my absence and now everything is either broken or changed.

I think I need a nap, I am rambling..

I am alive, back in the States again! I THINK I did better. When we got to the cruising altitude, I just kept reminding myself that as long as we are up and running, we are fine. I had a few good books, and thanks goodness, the transatlantic plane had a dozen movies on a loop and 2 free drinks.

I ended up watching 'Get Smart', ' Narnia: Prince Caspian' and the newest Indiana Jones. I was very happy that the longest flights went without panic, I rather hated sitting whiteknuckled and listening to the engine noises for 8 hours.

The shirter flights were still kind of grabbing the arms of the chair and having very sweaty palms. But I behaved well, no crying, screaming, or getting arrested by an air marshall =) I think I could handle a single flight, just these 4 in one day and 4 more a week later are kinda rought.

But I am hone.. gett8ing stuck in some weird mid-atlantic time zone, since I am waking up at 4am EST and not getting back to sleep. Oh well, I have today off, I'll worry about being sane in workr tomorrow =)

Again, if anybody still checks this thread, thanks for all the help and suggestions. I made it, it went better than I thought and I am sooooooo happy to be back home! I was frigging honesick the whole trip! =)

I think it is now week 3 for the halloween thingy.. or I might have my time zones messed up. Anyway!

Dag, you should complain to the admins of this site about siftbot's dupe detection. They live about twelve time zones apart, so usually only one of them is stoned at any given time.
