1961 HORRIFIC DRIVER'S EDUCATION FILM

bobknight33 says...

I somewhat agree. I thought about posting this for about a week.
But is is important for all to take a look. Even as a reminder. It could save your life or someone you love.

This used to be used in the classrooms back in the day. Most of the accidents were from operator error.

Today we have a false sense of safety in our cars. We are safer but still many are killed.

The other day a girl live streamed while driving and was having fun, as teens do. She lost control and killed her sister who was sitting in the back seat,

If her class were showed a truthful representation of what can happen. I would like to think that the probability of her accident would have been less?

listen closely. you hearing revving sounds from the engine. stuck throttle would not rev with the weight of the car being thrown around (as well as the person with the foot inside.) i drive standard. this happens when i pop the clutch badly and then try to add little gas, the rocking motion then makes me floor and then stop, then floor it again and over and over till i give up on that gear.. i blame wrong peddle breaking. good thing for insurance!

dont let new teen drivers drive heavy cars! DUH!!! WHEN they mess up. they cause too much damage

Yeah... that's a tough one. It's hard to say how it occurred, and because it's hard to say, I could see it being pretty easy for shitty corporate lawyers to dismiss it.
I was skeptical before I read it was a teen driver though, which my fault and unfair to teenagers, but I also wouldn't expect a teenager to accidentally accelerate into a house, and immediately think to continue flipping the fuck out in hopes of convincing someone it was the cars fault. Not in that way, at least.
If this really came down to being the fault of the car, how in the fucking hell are these pieces of shit still on the road?

Drive Safely

Peer pressure has little to do with it. The reason why it won't be effective if shown in high schools is that teen drivers are well aware of the consequences of 'aggressive driving'. What they're terrible at is assessing risk, the likelihood that THIS TIME there will be a pedestrian there when they pass on the right. Given time, their prefrontal cortex will mature, and experience will temper the notion that every moment is a novel opportunity where anything can happen. Sadly, the brains of some adolescents will never mature sufficiently, usually due to stress in the environment. That's all the thoughtless asshole drivers out in the road today. The problem is that if these commercials (the ones that are PSAs) are aimed at them, it's a lost cause. They can't see that any of this applies to them. Then they run out to play the lottery.

I did have a friend who walked away from a roll-over crash that crossed the median of the highway and four lanes on the other side. His advice to me (a novice driver at age 24) was that most people, when they sense a collision is imminent, jam on the brakes. This is, as you can imagine, a terrible idea for a number of reason. With a smile he said, "Just go faster. When THEY jam on THEIR brakes, you'll be surprised what options the laws of physics close for them, and open for you."
