Cops using unexpected level of force to arrest girl

enoch says...

@Shepppard
why would you take @chingalera 's posts so personal?
he wasnt calling your family out.
does your mom and dad represent EVERY cop on the planet?

most of us on the sift are fully aware that your family are law enforcement and not ONE of us has directed our rage, disillusionment or fear at your parents.

in fact it has been your contributions,in the form of commentary, that gives us an insight on how the good cops interact with the local community.

nobody is saying all cops are egotistical assholes, but cops like that exist.

so you have to understand that just like a cop has to assess a situation in milliseconds in regards to the citizen they are confronting,we,too, have to assess in milliseconds what kind of cop we are dealing with.

but ONE of those people in that confrontation has the authority to:taze, beat, fabricate and imprison.

thats a pretty tilted equation.

i have encountered some damn decent officers in my lifetime but cops are like a box of chocolates.
you never know what kind you gonna get.

Cops using unexpected level of force to arrest girl

ALL police are FELONS. Period.
Their 'doing their job' that deserves applause for you is your delusional addiction to force as an option-The fat fuck has his full weight on that woman's back, they're cocksuckers by choice, plain and simple. Thugs. Cunts. Unrighteous livelihood. They deserve 10X the force they used upon her for whatever reason they justify their actions to the bystanders. The could have fucking tazed her and it would have done less damage...

Are you trying to be sarcastic? Someone must have told you that doesn't work on the Internet without the Sift's sarcasm(TM) buttom, right?

Either way, what appears on this video is proper police work and deserves applause.

Cops tazed father trying to save son?

Lawdeedaw says...

I can agree with this except this is the United States of America. The police here are REQUIRED to interfere. Whether or not you agree with the action is irrelevant. The lawmakers, elected by the people have decided, for better or worse, this course of action. And since the law itself is practical, not unjust, I doubt it will change any time soon.

*Edit,

I tend to agree with you on this issue. They would have had to do worse than taze me to keep me out. And in the father's defense, if he went outside to better reach his child than say through the smoke-filled house, as it seemed pretty bad in there, then I can feel understand his choice.

The police are not in the right any time they prevent another consenting adult from making a decision about his life, or the life of a dependent.
I can't believe the kid died. I would visit that precinct with the biggest bouquet of roses after I was released. And by roses I mean artillery. Many people live solely for their children, and this was entirely unacceptable.

EDIT: the one thing that does bug me about this, though I'm sure the story can't convey all the circumstances, why would any responsible parent vacate their home before thinking of the safety of their child?

Anyway, yay life!

Female Veteran Arrested at No War With Syria Protest Rally

newtboy says...

Actually, if they gave her a command to leave the area and she instead started to try to debate them, she was doing something illegal. Failing to comply with a legal command from a law officer is a crime in most states. The cops can come up with a 'legal' reason for the command (in this case she may have been off the sidewalk or, more likely, was doing something to antagonize them before the video starts, making her the prime target).
If she was kicking them as they claimed (hard to tell) then they used restraint by not tazing and/or hogtieing her and slamming her to the ground.
I don't agree with those things, but I do see them as the normal reality.

Rhubarb Hubbub

newtboy says...

Follow up please...I want to see the video of her going ape shit on the cop that was just going to talk to her until she went insane.
I would also have liked to see her maced or tazed. As I understand it, they just needed to say the magic words, you're under citizens arrest, and they could have used any necessary force to detain her, up to and including including killing her if she tried to escape before the cops got there.

Yogi,

the guy was tazed after he had been shot at least three times potentially more. It looks like the cop lost his cool and opened up. To me, that's not right and it does constitute manslaugher/murder. Like I said; however, lets wait for the investigation to finish. Let's get some facts and information before we pass judgement based on some videos.

Let's not forget, the same police for who shot that kid was also the same police force who dealt with a knife wielding maniac like this:

http://videosift.com/video/All-he-had-to-do-was-drop-the-knife

Let the investigation finish before we start calling for blood.

Guns over Non-Lethal? You think you're going to win with that? Sorry but shooting someone because they're a danger to themselves, No doesn't fly. Shooting someone because they're a danger to others flies, if they're actually showing an intent to harm other people.

Shooting someone because they're endangering a cops life? Nope Nuh uh that's not how it works. Cops swear an oath to serve and protect, that means they put themselves UNDER everyone elses life in their district. So they risk being shot and stabbed and exhaust every option in order to stop someone without murdering them out of fear that they'll be hurt. They don't like it they don't have to take the job.

You don't just get to shoot people ever, not when they're not an immediate threat and not when you have options to take them down in non-lethal ways.

As far as the sifts opinion, we wouldn't give a fuck if they tazed a guy to the ground who had a knife in his hand. We get pissed when the people who get tazed are helpless, like that old grandma in a wheel chair.

The cop fucked up, and that crowd fucked up by not storming that building and killing all who stood in front of them. Only Murder will fix this situation now!

Shepppard said:

What's the better solution here? The guy was obviously pacing and holding a knife in a severely confined space. The non-lethal option, Tazing, has been a controversy on the sift since I started coming to the site.

Two options remain, allow him to hurt himself or others by allowing him to just stay with the knife, or charge him and risk a wound and or fatality of one or more officers.

It's a shitty fucking situation, I don't know why the kid was brandishing a knife in the first place, but he had it drawn for a reason, and it likely wasn't to get the gunk out from under his fingernails.

Hawthorne, CA Cop murdered a pet

arekin says...

So much no, this was irresponsible pet owner who was very close to a police raid (as is obviously evident by the number of cars and the assault weapon that is clearly visible around 3:00). The police are detaining him likely until they can ensure that he is not attempting to cause problems. Notice how the guys across the street from the guy being detained were fine continuing to record, were allowed to take the video away (despite showing a cop shooting a dog).

The dog did not deserve to be placed in a situation. But with your argument, if I saw a friend getting arrested I am entitled to charge cops and not get tazed or shot? To hell with that. But you know, its cool to blame cops whenever people do something dumb, illegal, or dangerous. Its cool to give them a hard time when they are trying to do their job and you know, protect someone.

SevenFingers said:

This point should be made clearer. It is not the fact the dog was attacking the cop, and the cop defending himself. This is about cops arresting an innocent man and murdering his companion, who would have not helped out his best friend if it wasn't for the pieces of shit who should be on the street as homeless men.

Is California Becoming A Police State?

moopysnooze says...

Just watching the video, it did angry me to see what happened, but as I read the comments, I did begin to think well, what are the police supposed to do in a reported domestic abuse situation.

A few things that crossed my mind are... firstly, everyone is different, some sensible and some not so; some clever and some not so. This is fact, and one would expect the police to know this and be able to deal with different situations appropriately. Sure there are many possible reasons why they don't handle situations properly like poor pay, assuming everyone is at their worst from experience, personality types etc, but this is not what the public wants or expects - hence the dislike.

Secondly, no matter any other context, if the person holding the camera did not have a weapon in their hand, did the police have to taze him?

Now having read the article, I wonder if some previous commenters still believe that their behavior is justifiable. The police were reported to have turned up in their numbers with guns in hand without explaining the situation.
For those who may ask why he didn't get go out there or let them in... bear in mind that he has returned from serving in the army to return home to have guns pointed at unarmed civilians by people who were not able to hold a calm enough conversation long enough to handle the situation properly.

In regards to the police state, it isnt just about how the police behave, it's about what the mob are willing to accept. Judging from the comments, it seems that the some are willing to accept to a lot already. The questions is how many and how easily they could be persuaded into accepting more.

Joss Whedon's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." New TV Series on ABC

skinnydaddy1 says...

Agent Coulson earned his place with the simple line. "I will taze you and watch super nanny while you drool in to the carpet." He was a background character, but he was also the one that made everything work. If fury need something done. He sent Coulson. He was Fury's right hand man. He was surrounded by all of these bad-asses and he was not impressed by them. Ok, a little with Capt. A but that was a nerd thing. Find the 2 shorts vids. One is called. "A funny thing happened on the way to Thor's hammer" I can't remember the other.
He had some of the best lines.

"Agent Phil Coulson: You're at 114 Solenski Plaza, 3rd floor. We have an F-22 exactly 8 miles out. Put the woman on the phone or I will blow up the block before you can make the lobby."

spawnflagger said:

Why is Agent Coulson supposedly beloved character? (I've seen Avengers and all the other Marvel comic movies, but never read the comics.) When he died, I didn't feel anything because he always felt like a background character, but it seemed like the writers made his death scene a major plot point... am I missing something?

oOPonyOo says...

@Pyotr - thanks for posting that video. I initially took great joy from hearing him scream like a girl when being tazed for being a douche to the guys just doing their job. Though I'm not sure what his profession has to do with him breaking the law, I genuinely think no-one should suffer. Even this dick-bag.

The apostles were routinely beaten because of their faith, and this is how they responded:

Act 5:40-41

and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.

I am not judging the pastor, but he didn't and still isn't following scripture. He did not obey the lawful order of the officer, when Christians are to submit to the authorities:

Romans 13:1

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.

This is what led him to get beaten and tazed, and even though they used excessive force, it was his disobedience which led to the action. Now, he is trying to get vengeance on the authorities through the court system. Yet this is what God says:

Heb_10:30 For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people."

I think he should be preaching forgiveness and love for those who hurt him, instead of decrying them and pursuing lawsuits.

So, I went and looked up his other videos. Turns out he wasn't actually joking; the guy is a baptist pastor. Kinda ruins the fun for me, but that's not the important part.
The important part was that I guess the border patrol got sick of the guy, or something. They forced him to stop once and tazed and beat the hell out of him. What's more, the comments on facebook were largely along the lines of "you deserved it because you're a religious asshole", which just makes the problem so much worse when you have that whole "I don't agree with your philosophy, therefore you don't deserve equal rights" ignorance into it.
Here are some of the videos from his negative experience:
