Pigeon Surprised by Planes High Speeds

Reefie says...

It was stood on the tarmac looking at the departing plane, thinking to itself "So that's why they tell us to fasten our seatbelts for take-off!"

Let's talk about Trump, Georgia, $200,000, and bail....

newtboy says...

Then why is he whining and crying about it so much? 😂
Why is he floating his plan to flee to Russia?
Don’t be a bit surprised to hear he has, pretending to board his plane (maybe using his double) but switching planes on the tarmac to some oligarch’s plane and being in Russian air space before his plane lands. If he goes to the West coast or Alaska, we’ll all know he’s running away. You think he’s joking about running….he’s not.

I think there’s a really good chance that $200000 is a significant percentage of his liquid cash, it could be more than he has personally…he’s been reduced to using political donations for his legal fees, he may in fact be completely flat broke or even underwater….you know he doesn’t own his properties, right? The banks own them.

The $200000k is nothing, it’s the conditions of release that he’s already broken that will put him in jail, possibly tomorrow because he broke the order the day after agreeing to the terms. Don’t be surprised if when he turns himself in for arraignment he’s put directly in jail, or his bail is raised significantly for already making threats against court officers after agreeing not to. His lawyers are already worried about exactly that.

Trump’s biggest problem is two fold 1) prosecutors are going to court to force defendants to get new council not paid for by Trump without massive conflicts of interest, and 2) big surprise once they have lawyers looking out for them instead of Trump they are all suddenly taking the immunity deals and recanting their false testimony Trump’s lawyers coached them to give and instead of “I don’t remember” they are answering questions. This has happened a number of times recently, and will likely happen more now that the codefendents are seeing their cohorts getting off Scott free for telling the truth instead of facing decades in prison for protecting Trump by lying. This is the end, they have him dead to rights on numerous cases now, with video evidence backing up all the statements now being made by his codefendents. Very few are prepared to go to prison for him, and he needs everyone to stay silent to stay out! 91 felony charges and counting, any one of which is a life sentence for the morbidly obese rapist, many of which are state charges no one can pardon. 😂

Taliban flaunt weapons, dollars after US flees

newtboy says...

Good thing Biden stopped nearly another $10 Billion from being available to them through banking and the IMF, now they’re just left with the enormous piles of cash and weapons Trump shipped to the region for bribing locals to be on our side and other unethical spending he wanted off the books.

@bobknight33 doesn’t seem to know where this cash and weapons came from….it wasn’t Biden, he’s not been sending more weapons and more pallets of cash during the draw down/retreat. These were in the hands of the Afghanistan government, put there by the previous administration, largely as bribe money.

Reminds me of when Bush sent $12 billion in cash to Iraq with similar intentions and $9 billion of it went missing.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had fled the country with four cars and a helicopter full of cash and had to leave huge piles of cash behind on the tarmac as it would not all fit in, the RIA news agency reported.

Biden waves to missing crowd.

newtboy says...

Lol. Finally watched this drivel, it's a secure tarmac, and yet busloads of people were there to wave at.

🤦‍♂️

You got one thing right, @bobknight33, no one cares that you don't comprehend security at airports, or that we're in an escalating pandemic thanks to Trump's failure to lead, be honest, or even take responsibility for anything, preferring to blame any scapegoats that aren't him....some leader you got there.

Doctor Forcibly Removed From United Flight For Overbooking

dubious says...

Passengers have many legal rights. For instance they can't be left on the tarmac for over 3 hours. It's not a simple situation like "flying is a privilege". If there is no law that this is violating Congress should clearly pass more protections for airline passengers ASAP.

Furthermore, the "I was just following orders" type defense is pretty poor given certain historical contexts of its use ... people need to use their own judgment of a situation in the moment. The passengers refusal to move should not have gotten to the point of force, it should have gone up the chain, where I would hope a different course of action would have been decided. I know it's difficult in the moment, but clear thinking heads would have realized that.

Downhill Skateboarding With Surprise Ending

FlowersInHisHair says...

The ending was not unexpected. Most downhill-skateboarding-on-a-tarmac-road videos I've seen end up with someone falling off, falling over, or hitting something. Too much FailArmy I suppose!

African aircraft test flight

Zawash says...

I doubt it has enough thrust to move of its own at all - even on smooth Tarmac. I agree, @artician - poor soul.

I have seen my share of fundamentally flawed projects, though - my old man kept building a humongous "winch" of some sorts, which was supposed to be used to excavate soil for building the foundation for a house. Problem was, of course, that the darn thing (apart from being useless) was so big and heavy that we'd need an excavator anyway, just to move it around - and then it would be much better, safer and faster to use said excavator to do the actual digging.

How to behave in traffic

Chairman_woo says...

All the research I've ever read/heard from professional sources appears to completely refute what you are suggesting.

Maintaining a decent distance speeds up the average flow of traffic! Being a little further behind doesn't slow anyone down it just makes them further away from each other.

A car doing 30mph 2 feet behind another is going EXACTLY as fast as a car going 30mph 20 feet behind another. Distance between cars doesn't make anyone have to go any slower, simply that they are further away relative to each other.

It also has the benefit of reducing or even preventing the wave phenomenon which SLOWS DOWN the traffic or even stops it dead. (capitals just for emphasis not sarcasm).

The distinction you are suggesting between smooth and fast flowing makes no sense to me. Smooth flowing traffic IS fast flowing traffic. It's the wave effect that slows traffic down not the amount of tarmac taken up.

The physical length of highway a car takes up would only matter if you were trying to park them. I can see why this might seem to matter from the subjective POV of someone stuck in a jam/slow moving traffic. But if everyone maintained distance this situation would be less likely to occur (and reduced in effect when it does).

Smooth traffic is fast traffic. We are not confused. This is based on modern professional studies of traffic dynamics. Having less lanes is know to actually speed up jammed traffic under many circumstances (London M25 springs to mind)

Let me put this another way. Watch that vid again. He isn't going any slower than the flow of traffic he's just further away from the car in front. You can tell this because he's maintaining a steady distance from the car in front. The only people who are being slowed down are the asshats behind him driving bumper to bumper. They experience what seems like a temporary reduction in speed but this is simply an illusion created by giving back the healthy separation between vehicles that should have existed in the 1st place. i.e. they are just "paying back" a few feet of roadspace each, which they took up at a previous point in time. They won't get anywhere any faster or slower as a result & this way it helps to reduce the "slinky effect" which actually does reduce average travel time from point A to B.

TheFreak said:

There's some confusion in the comments concerning the difference between smooth flowing traffic and fast flowing traffic.

These are not the same things.

Increasing the distance between you and the car in front of you to maintain a consistent speed will help to buffer the slinky effect in traffic.
It will NOT eliminate traffic jams.
You're actually reducing the efficiency of the highway and causing the slow down behind you to increase.

Decide what you mean by 'traffic jam'. Is it stop-and-go traffic or slow speeds? Follow this guy's advice to stop the slinky, with the negative effect of reducing average highway speed behind you. Fill in the gaps if you dread slow highway traffic, with the negative effect of creating more inconsistency in speeds.

Sébastien Loeb's Record Setting Pikes Peak Run 2013

Asmo says...

I'll give the guy all the credit for a suberb run (and balls of steel) but it's just not the same thing as driving it on gravel in a group B car.

Even if you ignore the sun in the eyes, stick gear changes and the way Vatanen had to use the clutch in the corners because the engine just had too much power, the sheer difficulty of traversing a low friction surface like gravel puts his time in a league of it's own.

Watch the two videos and you see the complete technical difference, Loeb goes in to low gear through the corners, doesn't drift at all (even drops in to first at points), and uses the cars acceleration combined with tarmac traction to get back up to speed. He even hits 6th gear quite a few times in the run. His control of the wheel is very smooth and measured.

Now watch Vatanen. Most of the corners, he's probably riding 2nd or 3rd and instead of breaking, is using the crazy horsepower of the engine to keep him going round the corner. He doesn't reach the same sort of top speeds of course because he's constantly fighting the loss of traction even in a straight line. His wheel control is excellent, but you can observe how he is constantly fighting to maintain his place on the road.

I suspect Loeb probably could better Vatanen's time with the same car and similar conditions, but we'll never know.

Boeing 747 takes off at Whitehorse, Yukon

Whoa! Tarmac removal in Whitehorse, biggest news all summer there huh? In Pagosa Springs, Co. their airport has a 100' wide by 8000' long air strip and once I watched a C-130 Hercules on approach headed down. Teensy mountain resort town with mostly private small jets landing daily....quite a sight to see one of the largest planes ever coming-in low in the middle of nowhere!
