If this theory were correct, guilt would be insanity, because any harm you do to others, you pay for by suffering the harm yourself. Empathy becomes an echo rather than a connection.

It's fanatism that leads to these crazy conflicts & posturing. Nationalism, Patriotism, Fascism, Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, etc... basically absolutism to any kind of theories & religious practices that disregard moderation & common sense and human's selfish tendencies all leads to unnecessary conflict, suffering, and especially for religions, hypocrisy.

I wish we had this in the US:

1. At 18, you go into two years of national service, PERIOD. Unless you're in a coma, you're going. And you're going to go someplace you're not from and be on a team with people you're not used to so that your millimeter-wide view of America gets forced open to a mile.

You will be evaluated for mental and physical wellness. If you're suffering from mental illness, you will get help. If you're struggling with weight or other physical issues, you will get help.

You will be helping out in communities that you are not used to seeing: rural, inner-city, black, white, Latino. You will meet gay people, hard-core religious people, prisoners, entrepreneurs, carpenters and mechanics. You will get to know their world and help them understand yours.

2. After your two years, you have some choices:

- You can go into the military and strengthen those skills you've shown an aptitude for.

- If you want, you can attend a trade school, fully covered.

- If you want to go to college, your first two years will be covered if you get a AA/AS. Should you go for a four-year degree, your first three years will be covered.

Imagine what kind of nation we'd be living in right now has this been done in 1990.

I'll never understand why, when someone cuts off another driver like this and gets out of their car to threaten or attack the other driver, why doesn't the person being attacked just run the attacker down in self defense? I would have parked on top of this guy or pinned him against his door with my bumper and waited for the police.

The problem is it's not just morons. They're just the footsoldiers. There are a lot of greedy people out there who will pay a small fraction of their earnings to persuade an army of morons.

The greedy probably think their wealth might protect their children from the worst of what's to come. Unfortunately they're probably right.

Even worse is that you and I are probably a lot closer to the greedy people than we think. We both believe change is more than necessary, and that millions will die and billions will suffer, but neither of us are putting absolutely everything we have into fighting it.

They have to ascend gradually or suffer the bends. There is no way to shorten that process.

Yes, Haitian politics are corrupt, but it's "undestandably so." It's a long suffering people, and the country's desperate situation has been increasingly hopeless for years. It doesn't take much to be willing to go all corrupting for survival.

for the most part, the people of china, japan, korea, and saudi arabia are native to those places, not invaders who often committed genocide to take control of those places and resources. there have also long been outcries to how they deal with foreigners, we just don't hear about it since we don't live there and aren't part of that media bubble. their attempts at monoculture have presented them with a variety of different issues and existential threats, japan probably suffering the most acutely right now.

China and Russia both expanded their territories into our allies territories during Trump's presidency, so did Daesh....he not only did nothing, he kissed their filthy assholes and asked for seconds. He abandoned our allies fighting Daesh, allowing them to survive and be a continuing danger to us.

I'm the opposite, in a sense. I couldn't really get hooked on Futurama. I watched pretty much all the episodes and enjoyed them, but didn't really get attached to any of the characters. However, Rick and Morty keeps me coming back because of the irreverence and the way nothing matters.

Rick and Morty is a middle finger to the universe, to causality, to the notion of object permanence, that suddenly jumps back to remind you of the endless and inescapable human suffering in the middle of it all.

Singh's right. Spending money for Native to have potable water shouldn't even be a question. There's nothing more of a basic human right than having drinkable water, especially since they've suffered being under the broiling water advisory for YEARS.

However, the problem with the NDP is that everything involving doling out money on social programs is a priority. They, like the Greens, are perpetually lacking in presenting anything close to a sensible, financiable budget during elections. They don't even try. That's why the NDP was never a ruling party (at the federal level), just the occasional kingmaker.
