Zero Punctuation - Fallout 3

MarineGunrock says...

ALL ZERO PUNCTUATION Videos are stalling... high traffic, does not qualify as dead!

Actually, you're wrong. Other ones do work. This one and last weeks don't. Go read the thread. P.S. - you yourself stated that the one from last week did not sift. So because NO ONE can see this, it's *dead. Don't cry because you can't suck up the votes with it.

It's a dead embed and you damn well know it.

The reviews for:
Dead space
Saint's Row 2
Silent Hill homecoming
Stalker
Force unleashed
Mercenaries
Double Bill

All work just fine. This one does not. It's dead.

Check the others if you want.

Hugo Chavez Praises Comrade Bush

Chavez is not the bad guy.

No, not perfect, but he's not a corporate suck-up.

The rich in Venezuela actually want to privatize everything.

That seems to be their short-sighted solution to almost everything.

Breakthrough in storing Solar Energy

Hey, nice post.
I read a thing a year or so ago about a new technology that enabled production of much cheaper and more efficient solar panels, but I can't seem to find any information on it now, so I wonder if it was just a pipe dream or something.
If I remember correctly the panels were paper thin and flexible, like laminated card, were durable to weather but eventually required replacing after 6 months or so of use. They were also supposed to be vastly superior in efficiency and their production allowed them to be "printed" en masse, and sold at approximately one dollar per metre square.
Obviously I was very excited about this. People could turn every south facing wall into a solar panel relatively cheaply and if the efficiency was as high as the article boasted you'd probably be able to light, heat and power most of the appliances in your house on your own energy. Alas, no cheap solar power yet.
Anyway, if all of Earths energy (with the exception of Geothermal, Nuclear and The Tides?) comes from the sun, be it stored in ancient pressurised plant matter or firewood, it would seem to make sense to find a good of way of tapping energy straight from the source.

Ya, little blurbs like that are usually kinda PR moves by certain solar research foundations to generate a flow of funds to their particular areas. Not saying thats a bad thing mind you, but its kinda a red herring. I say that because paper thin sheets of silica are not going to generate that much electrical power.

That said, it isn't unimportant. I think all of us have seen the caution signs and help phones on the road sides with the solar pannel coming off the top...very useful in that kind of aplication where low amparage is needed.

The problem is...well, at least with my house of nerds, is we use....a cubic butt ton of power (standard SI unit, look it up!). Mutiple computers, projector, game systems...a cornicopia of electronic wonders suck up a lot of juice. There is no way a paper thin PV cell is going to generate enough power to do all the work required of it...even if I coated my whole house with them.

Like I mentioned before, the energy generated is from the amount of "work" the photon has to do as it travles through the substrate. Unless they are doing some magic that I haven't become aware of (like nano tube redirection which was still theoretical last I heard) those paper thing sheets have a limited applications. Movement is good, so being able to cheaply produce those things is good, and my lead to further discoveries down the line, but it is mainly a red herring it seems.

Like I said before, I have the highest hopes for PV cells than anything else I have seen. And combining it with more effective means of electrolysis is very smart indeed. Hats off to them for all their work. Hopefully, PV technology is blessed with "bright" ideas. But I really think its got a long long road ahead of it...think of it this way, it is THE most researched green tech of the past 40 years, and yet, we are still only as far as we are...which is bare minimum public use this make solar panda sad indeed, but hopefully, he will be basking in the glow of nearly infinite energy!

bah, i've been reading about this and similar acoustic non-lethal horseshyt for at least 20 years. It doesn't exist and never will. If it's non-damaging then it's Useless, if it Is damaging and lethal then it's no better than bullets or pepper cannons or other conventional systems.

This is just another defense contractors scheme to suck up billions in "research" funding.

Republican Hypocrisy Lives! Larry Craig still kicking (Politics Talk Post)

Crosswords says...

Call me a pessimist, but I think the bottom line is people suck, all the way across the board. Every method of government at some level seems to rely on people acting in a certain socially responsible way.

If the rich let all that money they'd save by not being taxed actually trickle down by investing in better pay for their employees or more community/social projects, the Republican's method would work great. There would be no need for social programs because individuals would take responsibility for everything in their community, and there would be little need for taxes because individuals have already used their money to support their community. But that doesn't happen, most people don't give a crap about anyone else, especially if they're living high on the hog. And the more money a person makes the more they feel they deserve it and the more they feel they have a right to suck up as much money as they can like some economic hoover.

The dems feel you need a social program for everything so everybody's well being can be seen to and opportunity is open to everyone. Taxes are levied at higher rates, specially among the rich with the idea the redistribution of wealth into certain areas will help create a society that benefits everyone. This of course doesn't work because many poor see the social programs as entitlements rather than a temporary option to support them during hard times and will cheat the system in order to draw benefits they really don't need/deserve.

And of course to top it all off the lawmakers themselves are greedy bastards, or at least enough of them, and manipulate the laws so their constituents (not necessarily the people who voted for them) reap the benefits rather than everyone as a law might have originally intended to do.

Plus the united state's population is so large and diverse it can be extremely hard to get all the groups to agree on what's important, or rather they're more involved in looking out for themselves than trying to find something that benefits everyone, even if it means they have to make a sacrifice.

Anyway you slice it someone is going to be pushing for a bigger chunk.

Global warming is different. It's political.

It shouldn't be.

Its common sense, as bright as daylight, why the fuck arnt the politicians all getting off their collective asses pushing for a switchover to full electric cars, a full DC renewable energy grid, and getting off the dependance on foreign oil ?

What is there to lose in that, other than the trillions of currently unbought business sitting in the ground yet to be sucked up and burnt off...but then, the govt. should'nt be be-holdin to corporations and their profit/loss statements, they serve the people.

Ida thought that putting legislation into place that helps foster a new green energy industry would be good for the people. Ida thought that long-term virtually free energy / transport would be good for the people.

Corruption, its a wonderful thing.
