Learn Bay Area Slang in Fun Rap

EDD says...

>> ^detheter:
This video stands as a monument to the death of the English language as we knew it. RIP One day, all our teachers will be required to freestyle well enough to maintain their street cred, whilst learning all the local dialects, yo

I wouldn't be so pessimistic, detheter, the intrusion of all kinds of slang (from LOLs&OMGs to this) in classroom environment is a phenomenon that I've only heard of being encountered in US and, as weird as it sounds, I think that via globalization foreign influence just might help US get the language back on the right track if what you described starts looking like a futuristic reality.

Also, I wonder if it's a good or a bad thing if I've never even been to the States and was familiar with the majority of vocabulary presented in this video..?

It was good until I saw the Honda Logo, Then it sucked!
I don't know why a fan made video gets more street-cred than a corporate video but there you have it!

I think this would be classed as Viral as well, but I can't invoke it...

He's a geek.

I say that because only a geek would know another.

It cracks me up that he's talking about "street cred" and the poor lad would probably be murdered for fun on the bad side of L.A.

Or London.

But besides that, his critique has merit.

The Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden Myth

dgandhi says...

>> ^alien_concept:
I'm probably asking a stupid question that's been talked about for years and is already answered, but I wonder if what this documentary is saying is true (it certainly sounds likely) has Osama Bin Laden ever denied involvement? Why would he let that hang over him if he was innocent? I don't get it, what have I missed?

IIRC he denied involvement from the get go. When he realized what a PR coup it was for him to claim to to be associated with a successful strike on the most powerful nation on earth, coupled with the fact that innocence would not protect him in any case, might as well cash in the street cred.

Zero Punctuation - Dead Space

Wow, he couldn't be more wrong. Yahtzee must not be a horror guy, because this game is dripping with horror street cred. The art design absolutely gorgeous, the pacing is maddeningly deliberate, the action is brutal, dark and extremely violent.

The story is simple (A mixture of Aliens, Resident Evil 4, Solaris and Event Horizon), but it packs some great twists and has an extremely satisfying end. The main characters relationship with his 'supposedly' dead wife who keeps manifesting (is she real or in his head; I'll never tell) was not meant to be a weeping Lifetime movie of the week, but rather more of a creepy mystery, and the truth is spelled out at the end (spoiler: very end).

It's one of those games that needs to be played at night with all the lights off. Fuck off Yahtzee. Go wank it to Saints Row 2.

He shouldn't use Johnny Cash's name in such a shameless way, as if to give "street cred"" i.e. legitimacy to his failed attempt.

The sad thing is some people will think that it is some sort of indirect endorsement by Cash.

Parallel Universes DO Exist. I kid you not.

I call bullshit on this video. I would like to know at what casino they found this roulette table. We are all well aware of the green "0" and "00". I find this highly problematic for the theory of multiple universes. Now it could be just a bad example. If so, I would think, this would hurt the street cred of any science video attempting to promote a theory. LOL

Fun with Lawyers and their Flunkies (Blog Entry by dag)

raven says...

Yeah, I agree with Snipe... I have friends who are lawyers or law students who work as legal assistants and they never seem to have qualms about name dropping who it is they're working for, or about being all overly official with stuff... it seems like this E person, if they were indeed a real lawyer, wouldn't hesitate to get all uppity like, "I am contacting you from the offices of Snidely & Whiplash on behalf of a major client, to be disclosed at a later date... etc etc".

I suppose that I sort of understand protecting the name of their content-owning client until a certified letter can be sent, but not stating the name of the lawyer the person supposedly works for seems odd because usually lawyers are all about trotting out the name of the firm they work for... it's like their version of street cred, I don't know why this E person seems to think that is not proper in this instance.

Wow - that was good, but agree, I can't make the PS3 connection.

I think Sony just bought an indie short film, and tacked on their name to the end?

Can you buy cultured street-cred like that?

"That's What She Said" Music Video

Krupo says...

It's just not a particularly amusing vid - I mean, I see the intention, but it's weak.

Word to wise, Jorg - 'official' viral/ad clips do poorly among new users - Sifters want to see you find something with a bit more 'original' content as your first time out. Helps established your street cred plus the vid will usually be better too.

This vid really feels like a Simpsons parody of a boardroom executive's idea of what's 'hip' and 'happening'.
