Not the slinky i remember
This is the slinky i had. Getting it to go down the staircase was all we did with it.
Paternoster, the Collapsible Elevator
Why would getting on and off a paternoster be different from stepping onto a normal moving staircase (escalator)? Its just one step.
As for "I can easily imagine severed limbs" or "slow moving guillotine" web articles - I have never seen severed limbs or heads anywhere near a paternoster. Difficult to compare but I would expect accidents to be similar to escalator accidents (which can be pretty bad, Ive had one myself).
In any case paternosters are just as popular (though rare) all over central (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria) northern (Sweden, Finland), part of western Europe (Germany, England, Denmark, Netherlands), and even as far as the Austrian Empire extended southward into the Balkans (Beograd).

I Jumped Off The Golden Gate Bridge
I lost a sibling to suicide and it took years to stop blaming myself and to stop taking it personally. But until then it felt like a 3D Escher staircase embedded in my head that I couldn't resolve. Since then I volunteer my time to try to help depressed people however i can. But it's not about me, it's about this video and i'm glad this guy made it.
creepy hologram at a london railway station
Creepy or not it's damn good advice. I just about destroyed both my elbows hauling luggage up and down some of those damnable long staircases in the London underground.

I'm not an expert on climate change and I assume you have not devoted your life to climate science either.
From what I can ascertain, your links suggest a hiatus in warming not a reversal of trend.
To quote the BBC link:
"Prof Tung believes that whatever the cause and the length of the pause, we are on a "rising staircase" when it comes to global temperatures that will become apparent when the Atlantic current switches again.
At the end we will be on the rising part of the staircase, and the rate of warming there will be very fast, just as fast as the last three decades of the 20th Century, plus we are starting off at a higher plateau. The temperatures and the effects will be more severe."
And the LA Times link:
"Climate skeptics have pounced on this apparent discrepancy, citing it as proof that climate change isn't real, or at least that scientists don't completely understand it. But those who study Antarctic sea ice say their curious observations shouldn't shake anyone's confidence. Dramatic changes in temperature, sea level and extreme weather around the world are proof enough the planet is warming, they say; the only question is how these changes affect the Antarctic as they ripple through the climate system."
Again, I'm no expert. I don't presume that casual Internet research will enable me to properly evaluate and scrutinise academic articles and accurately assess their value within the broader rationale for acting against the purported harm caused by climate change.
Which is why I defer to organisations of scientists. If they overwhelmingly continue to believe that climate change is a threat, then so do I. If they change their views, so will I.
Why is this not the most reasonable approach?
Yeah, that's right. Who cares about the scientific method when you've got "consensus" and ridicule! "Boring," indeed.
David Mitchell Argues about Stationary Escalators
David Mitchell is not entirely accurate here I think (but certainly more accurate then Mr missed-his-name).
Escalator steps are not meant to be walked on, see e.g. here:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-debate/that-stopped-escalator-its-a-tougher-climb/article623713/
So if you walk up a stationary escalator, the average person will have a lot harder time than on a regular staircase, so there will be less forward momentum at the top.
Skater punched by kid's mom
Jesus Christ. I wish I knew why I cared about this so much but it's late and I'm tired so, fuck it:

The fucking kid's head is laying on the ground for three fucking seconds after he falls. You're fucking delusional.
There is no HD res for this video. Are you trolling or are you an idiot?
The concrete is pretty standard throughout the park with a few exceptions. That's your argument? This whole thing is a skate park from the parking lot at the south to the street at the north? Seriously?
Obstacles (in this case concrete benches throughout the entire park) that have marks on them do not qualify as a skate park. There are marks from skating on every bench, rail and staircase in my entire city. I assure you, the whole city is not a skate park because there are marks.
There are no ramps out of the skate area. If you can't see it on the overhead, look at the pic I posted. Seems like a small distinction? Nope. Stairs, not ramps. In fact, I can't see one ramp the entire place.
The "clear separation" comes from the stairs, wall, trees and fucking garbage cans surrounding the entire skating area which, by the way, has been sunk below the grade of the whole rest of the park! I mean, I guess they could've built a fence too but how clear does it have to be?
The kid was heading in the direction of the street, yes. But whose to say he wasn't going toward the fucking swings or anything else? Are you really now trying to imply that the mom was letting her kid run through the fucking street? Also, you don't have to start referring to him as "the child" now.
Nice way of avoiding the "barrels" question. I was expecting you to say he came out from behind that Greyhound bus that's so clearly present.
And enough with the fucking proximity of the fucking mom already. Kids are allowed to run through parks. And the guy who hits a kid with a fucking skateboard is the one who bears responsibility for hitting a kid with a fucking skateboard. Ahhh!! Seriously, what fucking world do you live in?
Alright, sorry. I'm cooked. Later.
