Pacific Rim Uprising - Official Trailer
It looks like it meets my requirements. Giant robots fighting other giant robots and monsters in a city in daylight. The rest looks pretty weak, but I'm up to watch the Giant Fighting Robots Special Effects show.

gamera 1016 trailer-king of all turtle kaiju
all those special effects and the post editing fell flat on its ass with the picture frame going all over the place randomly.
Bright - Official Full Trailer
Really enjoying some of the Netflix shows, which have unusually good production values/special effects and casts so far.
Star Trek: The Next Generation's scary scenes.
Fun facts:
1: That thing gave me nightmares when I first saw it as a kid.
2: those special effects have NOT aged well.
3: they quietly dropped the parasite storyline. It was apparently going to be the big bad in later episodes, but they were later reworked as the Borg.

The Mind-Blowing Special Effects of Manchester By The Sea
Great movie. Amazing special effects! I had no idea.
BvS Before & After
Upvoting for the impressive special effects used in the film.
But given that it appears to be have been an animation with live actors pasted in, and cartoonish physics presented as if they were real (e.g. that column stuff) I'm not sorry for passing it up in theatres.
Plus the forgettable, generically "epic" music.
Honest Trailers - Ghostbusters (2016)
Interestingly enough, Paul Feig recently actually admitted in an interview that he understands a lot of the backlash at this point.
Not the sexism so much, but the fact that when the movie first came out, he was in film school. He went, he saw it as a comedy with great special effects, and that's what he was remaking.
What he didn't realize, that as much as the film itself was just a comedy to him, a lot of kids grew up watching it and idolizing the main characters, myself included. It's not necessarily the gender swap that was the issue, it was the remake in its entirety.
The honest trailer nails that aspect prettymuch.
"Ghostbusters" Theme Japanese Remix
Wait... are those shots in between scenes from the new movie? Because those look goddamn awful... not because of the casting, or the special effects, but the film quality looks incredibly digital, and really cheap.
Cell-Official Trailer - Samuel L. Jackson, John Cusack Movie
The book is actually pretty good. This looks like just a poor Sharknado style take on the book... and the screenplay is written by King himself... which may be the problem. The plane crash effects look like what I'd expect from one of the YouTube special effect houses like Rocket Jump or Corridor Digital than a movie with an actual budget.
Every Best Visual Effects Winner. Ever.
My reaction was exactly the same. The cut from Dr Doolittle is like woooooooosh. On reflection though those scenes don't have that much going on in the way of special effects - to me its about really amazing set/prop design, lighting and directing. The way the light shines on Bowman's eyes... I don't think that is an accident and I suppose you could argue it was a visual effect.
Really amazes me how far before it's time 2001 was. The winners for the next 10 years or so were, honestly, crap in comparison.
Hollywood Whitewashing: Last Week Tonight, Feb2016
No, i did think of those type.
When they can't hire humans to play the aliens they use special effects instead. Speciesism at its most grotesque!
Close...but you've forgotten about the Blob....or the green plant/fungus stuff in Tales From the Crypt (or was it Twilight Zone?)...both aliens, neither human! Also...Starship Troopers. ;-)
But with a few other minor exceptions, you're right. Standard humanoid aliens always bother me and strike me as completely unimaginative. Plain human aliens are just lazy movie making.
