Muhammad Cartoons (SlideShow)

newtboy says...

Crap....I was going to upvote the basic idea of producing cartoons of Muhammad, but then they started, and of course it was all brainless far right wing whining bullshit not even just associating all Muslims with terrorism but outright accusing them of actively supporting it...so forget it.
You don't combat ignorant hatred with ignorant hatred unless you plan to become the ignorant and intolerant group you despise.

Southpark did it the way I think it should be done. Muhammad was part of the Super Best Friends, religious Super Friends...and had the power of fire. All religions given equal deference and equal disrespect....and Seaman.

Ecuador's Got Talent Bullies 16 Yr Old Atheist

newtboy says...

What ugly bullying.
Wasn't someone trying to convince me on another thread just today that Christians don't do this (and worse) anymore, and that my similar experiences as a child in Texas being treated as an anathema for honestly admitting my lack of faith was the exception rather than the rule? I'm sad to see that that is not true, and the bullying and unfair treatment by authority is alive and well and so popular in some places that people think nothing of bullying children on national television and disqualifying them from a talent competition for their private beliefs, and apparently even get the poor kid's parent's support for their derisions and admonitions.
*quality example of what I feel and fear is normal Christian "love and acceptance" of others.
I only wish she had said "I don't just believe in things that I have no evidence for because other people do." or something else sounding thoughtful and well considered rather than 'I've just never had anything to believe'. That sounds naïve rather than thoughtful to me, even if I agree with her conclusion.
I loved her answer to what happens after you die, it's like Stan said on Southpark....it's probably much like it was before you were born....nothing.

New Poll Numbers Have Clinton Far Behind And Falling

newtboy says...

I agree that 'writing off' a huge, near majority of the population is disastrous....but it's pretty damn close as it stands, with neither party doing much to improve things. It's already not a great time to be Mexican, black, or a woman in America today.

I, also, am at a loss on what to do. Southpark said, and I agreed, that 1/4 of Americans are mentally defective. I'm seeing now that that number is probably closer to 3/4, making meaningful, helpful change impossible. (Trump will be 'meaningful' change, but there's a >99% chance it won't be helpful to anyone not named Trump.)
A constitutional amendment declaring politics off limits for businesses and/or large groups, and making lobbying completely illegal, and funding elections rather than making them 'pay for play' would be a great start...but since the people who benefit from the current system are the same one's charged with making those changes, it's a non starter with no legal solution beyond voting every incumbent out of office...and that's not a good solution either.

Trump is likely not the answer if America is to continue as a united country.

It depends on the level of rot. If every load bearing beam in your home is infested with termites and rotten to the core....burning it down just might be the only way to save your neighbors homes, yours is already gone. We are at best on that knife edge where it's a toss up which is better, repair or replacement...but we aren't doing either, which is making the decision for us as the rot gets worse and less repairable. Perhaps a new structure is needed, one built to eliminate the rot from the get go. Of course....I see that leaves us all homeless in the interim, and many won't survive that, and in that circumstance it will be MUCH worse before it's better....most people advocating the dismantling of the government don't see that. I'm not advocating it, but I am considering it as a possibility.

That's the thing, I think they probably are.

I saw a quote the other day that said if Trump wins, "it won't be a great time to be mexican or black or a woman in America, but other than that things will be pretty much the same".

It's 2016. Writing off huge demographics like that shouldn't be an option.

@newtboy, I don't know what you do to affect change in the US. Your political system is awful, your voting system is borderline insane and your judicial apparatus is compounding the problem with some unbelievably short-sighted decision (i.e. Citizens United).

But I do know the answer isn't Trump.

If your house has rot, you don't burn it down. You have to do the hard work of finding the problem areas, scaffolding them to protect the rest of the house, ripping out the problems, replacing them and then insulating so you don't get the problem again.

Mother Jones on Trump and Violence. Words may hurt him.

newtboy says...

So much for "I'll defend you in court", huh. Just about as honest as everything else he says though.
*promote his real message of intolerance and xenophobia (look it up, Trump supporters).
It's just astonishing to me that SOOOO many pretend they don't really understand he only wants to make America hate itself again....but Southpark was right, at least 1/4 of all people are completely mentally retarded. (and no, that's not a slur against the actually mentally challenged, it's an apt description of people who, for various personal/political reasons, intentionally do not mentally evolve)

Why I Don't Play Videogames Online

I only know from watching the minecraft southpark episode....in this context, I think it's someone who gives you grief (berates you in some way) about the quality of what you made/did in minecraft.

South Park S19E9 Clip: Ridding the World of Ads.

artician says...

To be fair, SouthPark has never hesitated to bite any hand it sees necessary, even the ones feeding them. It's a good habit I think, but it's hard to tell when it's satirical or smokescreen.

Semi-related, I'm playing Just Cause 3 right now, a game that requires Steam, and is getting a lot of heat because it uses some "Denuvo" tech, which is being labeled DRM. At the same time, in the game, the primary enemy that the player is fighting against, all throughout, is the DRM army. No joke. It's such a juxtiposition that isn't clear if you're experiencing someones idea of satire or complete, corporate dickishness.

Fox News Anchored in Stupidity on 14th Amendmen

newtboy says...

Hilarious!
Not surprising that Trump supporters are so insanely in the Trump's pocket that anyone contradicting or even questioning him must be a 'lefty' so not worth listening to...even Papa Bear.

It's a good thing we have legal scholars like this guy around to explain to us how the supreme court doesn't understand the law.

Southpark was right when they said 1/4 of all people are totally retarded. Trump's 25% approval in the polls proves it.

Our Greatest Delusion As Humans - Veritasium

newtboy says...

I have always been comforted by my impermanence.
The idea of immortality always seemed like an inescapable prison of existence.
Only the idea that, at some point, I would no longer be forced to exist made my existence bearable without a constant claustrophobic panic.

I think it was Kyle on Southpark that answered the question 'what's it like when you die?' the best with his answer 'I think it's pretty much like it was before you were born.'. That works for me.
