The Game that is pissing off the Alt Right

draebor says...

There's a legal reason for that. In Germany, the law prohibits the distribution or public use of symbols of unconstitutional groups (flags, insignia, uniforms, slogans and forms of greeting) as part of an effort to 'de-nazify' the national culture following the end of WW2. The Wolfenstein games are chock-full of these symbols. You can see the effects of the law on other WW2-themed games as well, like War Thunder.

JustSaying said:

Maybe the alt-right idiots should move tro germany. The first Wolfenstein is banned (still) and all following games are heavily censored or outright banned as well. And it's not just for the violence. Since Return to Castle Wolfenstein all games have removed Nazi insignia so you don't kill Nazis anymore but other made up groups instead (in RtCW the Nazis were renamed into the Wolves IIRC). The New Colossus contains all the violence in germany but no swastikas or SS runes.
What a load of Bullshit.

Do you think people only travel for face to face meetings that could be done remotely? No one would waste that kind of money for nothing.

What's been missed is it's a time machine. Leaving Australia for LA, you can arrive almost a day before you left, reminding me of another hypersonic plane's slogan...."when it absolutely, positively had to be there yesterday."

Trump Disavows Racists Over and Over Again - Media silent

Drachen_Jager says...

So, @bobknight33 how was the weather in Charlottesville?

You're still avoiding answering any questions, I see. Easier to hide like a coward rather than face the fact you might be wrong I guess.

Do YOU support the marchers? Are you a member of any of the groups represented there? Clearly you support some racists, I'm just checking how far it goes. Where do you draw the line? Are Nazi slogans okay so long as you're on the right side of the barbed wire?

Liberal Redneck - Virginia is for Lovers, not Nazis

newtboy says...

I've seen enough footage, and come to my own conclusion based on the totality. I really don't need any prompting to come to the conclusion that Nazi/fascist=shitshow/violent mental defective.
Unorganized and unaffiliated doesn't mean impromptu or peaceful....or unarmed. Edit: The counter protesters were not all peaceful, but it seemed none of the Nazis were peaceful, and the Nazis weren't locals, they were an armed gang roaming the streets attacking people repeatedly.

After all the violent marches they had before their permitted rally, the permit was again rescinded (according to the police). There was a route cleared to the event by police before hand, but the Nazis ignored instructions and insisted on taking multiple unsecured paths to the event through the counter protesters, and the event was canceled by police 30 min before it started because they were again starting riots and fights and ignoring legal commands.
Could/should police have done more? Maybe, but city hall should have the right to deny permits to designated hate groups...like any that advocate genocide of another race/culture.
Nope...these assholes don't represent "whites", this was absolutely not a "white=shitshow" narrative, most of the counter protesters were white, far more white counter protesters than white Nazis. It's about how 99% of the planet thinks "Nazi=shitshow". Clearly you are in the 1%. Congrabulations!

Easy to see them as Trump loving Nazis, but make no mistake, they labeled themselves Trump loving Nazis, not me or media. When they wear swastikas, shout hiel Hitler, hiel Trump "Jew will not replace me" and a dozen other Nazi slogans, illegally march through campuses with torches and clubs threatening passersby, etc. it's pretty hard for a rational person to think differently. Are you denying all of those things happened, because I've seen plenty of footage of it, hours, without the slightest effort.

Asmo said:

You obviously haven't been watching too much of the footage then, and you've bought the narrative hook, line and sinker.

The "anti protestors" showed up with bottles of quick dry cement, balloons filled with urine and feces, fireworks, glass bottles, mace, hairspray cans used as impromptu flamethrowers etc. Plenty of signs advocating the scalping/punching of nazi's of course. But yeah, totally impromptu and they were totally peaceful... 8 |

After the ACLU stepped in to get the permit reinstated for the right wing rally, the police the next day were ordered to stand down, leaving the rally attendees with zero protection and access to the event required passing through the anti-protester crows, which precipitated rapidly in to violence. Funny that, right? Almost like the powers that be set the whole thing up to guarantee it turned in to a riot... And then there's the grandstanding afterwards by the (D) mayor about those horrible racists... /grin

This has been documented by many left, right and center sources for anyone who bothers to look for it. It's less to do with Trump and more to do with the constant narrative that white = shit and how people are getting pissed off about it.

Far, far too easy just to label them all Trump loving nazi's than invest even the slightest bit of effort in to trying to work out what's truly going on, eh? \= |

John Oliver - Brexit II

noims says...

The scary thing is, absolutely none of what he said about Brexit wasn't known before the vote. Also, pretty much none of it was known by the British public.

The politicians on both sides tried to fight it on slogans rather than facts, and the press did practically nothing to improve the situation. The American press get a lot of flak for partisanship, but they've got nothing on the Brits.

In fact, completely unsurprisingly, the British press came dead last out of the 33 countries in a recent EU poll on how much the people trust the press. Have a guess how much coverage this got there.

It really annoys me, and we Irish are supposed to hate the Brits.

Also: "Thatcher In The Rye". Brilliant. Still sniggering.

Also also: there are also plenty of good arguments for Brexit, but they got equally terrible coverage.

Why I Left the Left

newtboy says...

No, the teabaggers invaded the republicans and took them mostly far right but really deep into insanity, where they aren't right or left, just angry and lashing out while accepting no responsibility for their parts in problems. They are anti tax, but pro spending, anti big government unless it's a government project they support, then big government is what's needed every time, anti regulation unless it's a regulation against something they dislike (like abortion, relaxing drug policies, marriage, equal protection under the law, etc).

Every teabagger I've met (and there are many) has been at least as if not more racist, homophobic, and bible thumping than the media makes the 'party' out to be, including (sadly) many of my own family members. They are not the fringe, they are the base, you're either lying or don't know your own group. They are also just as dumb and/or stupid as they are portrayed, my favorite slogan is "keep your government hands off my medicare", clearly the woman carrying it was so dumb she didn't understand that medicare is a government program, just like 1/2 of you don't know that the ACA is Obamacare, but HATED Obamacare with a passion while insisting the ACA is great. Not racist? Then what? Just brain dead? It's this disconnect from reality and sanity that made me run from them as soon as it was clear where the party was going....it didn't start out like it ended up, it started out more like OWS.

Haven't you been the one saying all left wingers are in perfect alignment with SJWs recently....repeatedly and smugly? Yes...that was you.

*facepalm

So the Republicans left the Conservatives and took the party to the left, meanwhile the SJW's took the Democratic party and drug it out to the WAY WAY out to the left?

In any effect, I agree with him in just about every way, and welcome him to come join us "tea baggers". We aren't nearly as racist, homophobic, or bible thumping as the media makes us out to be.

Not saying those people don't exist, but they are a really, really small fringe, and putting their identity on a whole group of people is like saying all left wingers are in perfect alignment with BLM or OWS groups.

has rachel maddow lost her mind?

bareboards2 says...

I think part of the problem here is semantics Definitions.

What does "hacking our election" mean?

It is widely acknowledged that there is no evidence that the Russians accessed our voting machines to change votes. If your definition of "hacking" is interference with computers and their outputs, then yes, there is no hacking by Russians.

But if you are a person who isn't careful with original meanings of words, and use words in a new way to speak in short cuts -- then you will use the word "hack" to mean mess with. Change. A life "hack" for example. And there is plenty of proof that there was a concerted effort on the part of the Russians to plant false stories, fake news, to try and influence the election. That Americans were doing it too, for either political purposes or just to make some sweet easy advertising money, doesn't change the fact that there was this specific effort.

As for "confirmation bias" -- yeah. You got some, enoch. Every time anyone sets up an argument in such black and white terms, that is evidence of confirmation bias.

The world is gray, and messy, and not black and white. To try to make it so is deepening a manufactured divide.

And both sides do it. And have done it for a long time.

Because sound bites work. Slogans work.

Fight back against black and white thinking.

Obamacare in Trump Country

newtboy says...

For a group that CLAIMS they don't want handouts, they sure do have their arms outstretched, palms up constantly. Of course, they say a tax break isn't a handout (unless it's a tax break for, say, installing solar), they say social security isn't a handout, Medicare isn't a handout ('keep your government hands out of my Medicare' was my favorite tea party slogan).
True, the ACA wasn't voluntary, but all those other programs they use (and usually use more than they contribute, and more than "blue" states) are voluntary, so that argument falls flat.

This place (videosift) seems to be filled with a plethora of liberal ideals and videos about liberal ideals.

This is all just my opinion, but here it is none the less:
The simple reason these people voted Trump is these people don't WANT hand-outs and government cheese. But what they do want is someone who they feel will put the USA first and bring back jobs. They, for whatever reason, felt that would Trump over Hillary. If they had to hang Obamacare on a cross and sacrifice it to improve their long-term economic standing, then so be it.

It isn't like they really LIKED Obamacare, they were just FORCED to buy it.
